This dream home was built in 2004-2005 and is a year-round home. The Loft Master bedroom with hand-hewn log queen bed has its own balcony overlooking the valley of maples to the east and the loft itself has the incomparable view of both dunes and Lake Michigan to the west. Attached to the master bedroom is a master bath with a glass tile double shower with inlaid mural. The dressing room/closet has its own hand-painted autumn mural.
THIS PROPERTY IS NOT for sale. There are a couple of 'For Sale signs on the entrance to the VERY long drive: there are people who are selling 2 acre plots of land below our property. The Golden Dunes cabin will NOT be for sale: this is our dream and will remain so.
There are 2 main floor bedrooms. The Flora and Fauna room has twin beds. There are drawers full of family-oriented games, cards, puzzles, and toys for your entertainment. The Quilt Room has a double log bed with single bunk above with the quilt theme throughout.
The main floor also has a full bath with massage shower and an antique vanity set with a hand-painted sink. All towels and linens are furnished. Great room and full kitchen finish the main floor. There are French double sliding doors out to the large deck. All bedrooms and the Great room have satellite TV with DVD and VCR.
Entrance level has 2 1/2 car garage, fully equipped laundry and entrance room with storage that includes water toys and floatables. An inflatable raft for your use is in the garage.
There is a lovely Nature Trail throughout our property. It is divided in two loops: a longer and shorter one: feel free to explore the hills, woods and meadows. You are free to hike, cross-country ski or snowshoe on the 26 acres. Follow the orange and yellow tagged stakes for the trail.
An outdoor grill is provided as well as plenty of seating on the large deck.
The laundry room has broom, vacuum and other cleaning supplies you may need throughout your stay.
An open sand area is great for children playing while adults enjoy the view or s'mores over the fire. Please never cut living trees. There is plenty of downed wood on the property. The fire pit also has plenty of seating in a great open area to enjoy evenings under the stars.

I am in my late 60s, currently mostly retired. I enjoy the beauty of outdoors and the serenity of privacy in my own space. I built this home from very special circumstances that we will share upon rental, if requested. It is quite an amazing, heartfelt story. I love this home and have placed special artwork from different countries we have visited there as well as Jill's artwork. She is the artist of the family. You will notice her rendition of the dunes in the Great room as well as a birchbark watercolor and the rock (all rocks from Lake Michigan) mosaic on the retaining wall as you come up to the property. There are also other paintings and a photo wall divider created by Jill. The coat racks in the entry are handmade, Jill painted them with native herbs: check them out! The brass bell collection that hangs on the stairway is also Jill's innovation. We enjoy meeting and conversing with people from all over and their unique stories. We rent the home, not only to be able to pay the taxes, but also, because we really enjoy sharing this lovely, beautiful spot with others. Our home is in Lansing, Mi. which is only 145 miles distant so easily accessible by us on a regular basis.
Jill Campbell purchased this house in 2004
This is a house that I custom-built. I had the wonderful pleasure of designing it and seeing it through to completion. It is my dream. I have always wanted a place that looks toward the setting sun. there is something magical about it. the west coast of Michigan is quite well-developed, but this section is not quite so overrun by tourists and has such unique features. Where else can you ride on the dunes? Where find that home-town atmosphere with a local restaurant (the Open Hearth Grill) that utilizes foods from this location? As you drive to the house you pass orchards-white and pink in the spring , hanging with apples and cherries in the summer. You also pass graceful fields of asparagus-golden in the autumn.
We love to walk the 26 acres and enjoy the stars from the deck at night. There is an unobstructed view, with no city lights intervening, of the Milky Way and the summer triangle. There are a family of turkeys who go by daily on their rounds, clucking and spreading their tail feathers. Deer are often seen on the property. Where else do you need to go for rejuvenation? After being at the beach or the dunes during the day, it is ABSOLUTELY wonderful to have your own space in the evening.
We will be gone to a funeral from July4 through July 11 out of the country: so please email inquiries during that time. I will be sure to get back with you as soon as possible after that. Thank you for you patience.
We spent a week at Golden Dunes and loved it! The view of Silver Lake, the Sand Dunes and Lake Michigan are breathtaking, especially at sunset.
We loved the wood burning fireplace and the open kitchen-living-dining room, very conducive to our large family Holiday gatherings.
We hiked several miles each day, all out the back door!
Jill is great to work with too!
Each year, my family including my husband, children, mother and father-in-law, as well as my brother-in-law and his family, chooses a place to getaway for Thanksgiving. We have gone to several places along Lake Michingan, and Golden Dunes was, by far, the best place we have ever stayed. It was just perfect for the amount of people we had, and everyone slept comfortably. The shared living space was amazing and comfortable for all 10 of us. I had the luxury of making the loft/master suite ours for the weekend, and that log bed and huge shower were the highlights of my trip. When we woke Thursday morning we watched the most beautiful snowfall through the tall windows. The cabin is in the woods, but the view to Lake Michigan is spectacular. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware, and our turkey dinner went off without a hitch. The children were able to play with fun wooden toys inside or go out exploring in the woods and build snow forts, while we sat by a fireplace and read books or watched television. This was truly the most spectacular family friendly place we have ever rented during the holidays. We are familiar with the area and knew that not much would be open during the holiday, but a quick trip south to Muskegon allowed us to see a movie in Norton Shores. Ludington is even closer. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to relax, as well as enjoy the outdoors. We will definitely be back.
We couldn't be more pleased with our stay at Golden Dunes! A beautiful home with a beautiful view!! We were blessed with beautiful weather during our stay as well! We highly recommend this secluded getaway that is close to so many wonderful attractions!
In addition to the fact that this home does not overlook Lake Michigan at all, the plumbing in the home is not up to code. The washing machine is plummed directly into the sump pump causing lint to collect and freeze the pump. We were unable to use the washing machine for the entire length of our stay, and also had difficulties with the toilets and sinks. We contacted the maintenance man immediately after discovering the burned out sump pump and did not hear back from him for several hours. During which time we cleaned up the over two inches of standing water. The maintenance man apparently arrived while we were out and simply unplugged the washer leaving a note stating "do not use". Repeated calls to him went ignored until he finally came out after my third call. He arrived during our dinner time and proceeded to cuss me out in front of my family stating that I was rude to bother him at all. He further stated that he wished to be fired. I contacted Jill immediately and explained the situation and was assured the problem would be handled. It was not. We went the entire week without being able to use the washer, and fearing to use the dishwasher for the same reason.
After contacting Jill for a return of my deposit, I was advised that she was told that the house was left in terrible condition. A claim I emphatically deny. We are experienced and responsible renters and did not leave the premises in poor condition. In addition, Jill claims that we had "many people staying in the home". Again, an unsubstantiated claim. We had less than the maximum capacity of people staying in the home however we did have guests for dinner each night.
I am very disappointed that Jill did not contact me regarding the claims of her cleaning person and further disappointed that she now claims the deposit was part of the payment.
I would not return to this property nor would I recommend it to anyone ever at any time.
Went with family and friends for Memorial Weekend, the house is beautiful, clean and specious. Outdoors have a lot of chairs for sitting down, even by the fire place. Awesome view from the back deck, and few minutes from Dunes. Definitely will be back.
Wonderful location with great views. Able to see Lake Michigan and Silver Lake. Golden Dunes is a beautiful place to stay with artistic touches by the owner. Enjoyed our girls weekend. Thanks Jill!! By the way....microwave difficult to use and the start button was stuck most of the time.
