Both blue fish and striped bass run up the river. Ideal for fishing, canoeists, kayakers & nature lovers. Scarborough Marsh is one of the major spots for migratory birds on the east coast and is known for the large number of snowy egrets. No pets. No smokers. Near sandy beach. Jaw dropping views. Deposit required. Two week or more renters preferred.

Nearest Beach: beach at 0.8 Miles
The house looks out on the Scarborough Marsh Nature Preserve, considered one of the major bird migration spots on the East Coast. Hundreds of egrets, white and grey herons are a daily occurrence as are seals swimming in front of the house. Good swimmers can swim right in front of the house; otherwise there is a small beach 100 feet away and a 7 mile long beach 3/4 mile down the road. You can fish for stripers and blue fish from the house and the area is a canoeing and kayaking paradise. Portland is a 15 minute drive and abounds in great restaurants, shops and museums.

Immediately at the house there is great swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and fly fishing. Pine Point Beach is 3/4 mile down the road. It is a great beach for children and wind surfers. Ferry Beach and Scarborough Beach are a short drive away.

Please note that if you are interested in this house that we do not view it as a rental property but as our home that we share with people who love Maine, the water, birding and other outdoor activities. It is not a hotel and does not offer the amenities you would expect there. However, as a lovely private home, you'll enjoy access to one of Maine's most beautiful areas in a very private setting. We expect all our tenants to respect the house and area as much as we do and look forward to your inquiries.

My husband, newborn daughter, and I rented this home for two weeks in July. The weather was perfect and we could not have been happier with the house, owners responsiveness to our needs, and location. The house was very clean, nicely decorated, and the views from the house were amazing. Literally we could simply sit in the living room or on the deck all day long and enjoy the spectacular scenery rain or shine (tons of windows!). We used the canoe at the house to explore the marsh and explored many of the surrounding beaches. One day we went to Freeport, another to Kennebunkport, another to the Falmouth Audobon Society for a hike and a few times we went into Portland for a nice dinner. There is also an awesome pizza place just up the road (and we're from NY so we're pretty picky pizza eaters!) and great ice cream.

I would highly recommend this property and location. The owners were very accomodating and checked in a couple of times to make sure we had everything we needed.

The only potential negative for a family with older kids is you would have to drive to the beach (or ride bikes) because it's not exactly walking distance. But it's literally an easy 5 minute drive.
