Perhaps the best thing about this flat is its location, right in the heart of central London and literally within a stone’s throw of Leicester Square tube station which makes for easy access to Heathrow.
The owner was very responsive to communication starting from the initial inquiry all the way through to the completion of my stay and was receptive to some suggestions which would make for a more comfortable environment for future guests.
The building itself is very secure, with electronic access and CCTV cameras. An elevator allows easy access to the third floor flat which itself can be locked with two keys, adding to the security.
The theatres of the West End are all within walking distance and Covent Garden is a short 5 min stroll up the newly pedestrian-friendly Long Acre with its variety of shops. Shopping for groceries is convenient with Marks & Spencer’s food hall just across from Covent Garden tube station and Tesco just a block away at the end of Garrick Street.
For tourists and theatre goers, the location cannot be beaten. Mostly all the sights are easily within walking distance, all but eliminating the need to pay fares on the Tube or bus. But do remember that this flat is deep in the heart of central London which is literally bursting at the seams with people (most of whom are tourists). So if you want to be in amongst the action and close to all the sights and attractions, this is the place for you. For a more peaceful retreat, you might prefer to check out areas such as Bloomsbury and Chelsea which are quieter and still offer access via Tube and/or bus to all the sights.
Within the flat, the kitchen was well-appointed and all appliances worked properly, including the washer and dryer. The triple glazing blocks out the noise from the street below but in warm weather, opening the windows does bring the street noise with it. So, in the hotter months of July & August, keeping yourself cool will likely mean putting up with some of the street noise below.
The Wi-Fi internet access worked beautifully and for me was essential, not only for keeping in touch with family, but for such things as checking out train schedules for day-trips into rural England, buying theatre tickets etc. If you have Skype on your Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, then calling friends and family back home can be so much less expensive than making a regular phone call.
This flat and its location are definitely worth considering for a stay in London.
