PEACE AND SIMPLICITY ON THE POND

Union Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Clean, quiet cabin on peaceful Seven Tree Pond (made famous in Ben Ames Williams' book 'Come Spring'). Bedroom, full bath, full kitchen, living room with pull out sofa and sleeping loft. Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck overlooking the lake while listening to the call of loons. Pedal boat and kayaks are available for your use, as well as an awesome float with slide for swimming fun or lounging.

Located 15 easy miles from the Rockland/Camden coast. Damariscotta and Boothbay Harbor are an easy drive (30 minutes). Restaurants abound in the area - from 'white tablecloth gourmet' to lobstah in the rough. The cabin has a basic kitchen (fully equipped) and gas grill, so you can enjoy your own meals here, too.

There is lots to do in the immediate area: climb Mount Battie, hike the Georges River Land Trust trails, enjoy the ocean with a chartered cruise, nice 'gifty shops' in Camden and Rockland, Lighthouse Museum, etc. There are great events, too: Maine Lobster Festival, North Atlantic Blues Festival, Union Founders Day, Union Fair and the Maine Antiques Festival to name a few [Google them for dates or email us].

Children are welcome; we have lots of toys and games (no video game systems)for kids to enjoy, including volleyball.

Union has a beautiful 'downtown' area (it's on the National Historic Register) with grocery store, post office, historical society; laundry facilities are nearby, all within 2 miles. Small town living at its best!

We own two lots on Seven Tree Pond; one lot has our full time residence, the other lot has a cabin. We enjoy sharing our beautiful piece of the world with others.

There is such serenity here - beautiful birds including loons and eagles; unlike many lakefront areas, we are unspoiled. Boat traffic is at a minimum and the waterfront is undeveloped. Fishing is good; we do mostly catch and release. If you are lucky you might catch Wilbur - our giant big mouth bass - but if you do, you have to promise to let him go! If you are looking for a lot of hustle and bustle, bright lights and loud music we are NOT the rental for you. However, if you want to de-stress, unwind and get back in touch with the simple joys of life this is the place to do it.

Absolutely great stay! Just as advertised. Even in October, kayaking on Seven Trees Pond and up to Round Pond was very comfortable. Convenient to anything in Knox County and the immediate coast. Owners helpful in every respect.

Seven Tree Pond with our wonderful hosts, Joyce and Greg, was just the place for our family this summer. All of our needs and more were taken care of. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing, fun, and peaceful vacation. We highly recommend others to experience such warm hospitality!

Disappointed

The swimming area was very mucky, you can sink past your ankles if you try to stand up. The owners left their boats tied to the rental dock insead of their own.
The dogs would come over onto the deck when you try to BBQ, also run in front of the car when you drive into the driveway.
Had it rented for 9 days left after 2 days, it is hard to enjoy when the owners are right in the same driveway, just didn't seem like any privacy at all.
Owner said very family orientated but I disagree.
Owner's Response: We were quite sorry to see this review, as we do try very hard to make everyone's experience pleasant. Seven Tree Pond does have a muddy bottom - that is a fact of life for many ponds in Maine. We understand that some folks do not care to be "muddy" and that is why we have a pedal boat for guests to use to go out to the swim float, thereby avoiding the muddy bottom. This year has been a bit more of a challenge as we have had very little rain and the lake is quite low. At normal water levels the immediate swimming area is more gravely.

There is no rental dock for guests and there is no mention of it in either the listing or the rental contract. We would have considered letting the guests use our boat dock for their son's boat if we had not been concerned about the amount of alcohol that was being consumed.

We do consider ourselves family-oriented; however this particular guest had no less than twelve family members (excluding themselves) from the moment of check-in. There were overnight guests that were not pre-approved, although the rental agreement specifically stated that pre-approval was required. We were willing to make concessions on that, because we knew the renters were from a long distance away and that they had children and grandchildren in the immediate area. We also knew it was the weekend and that perhaps the children would be returning to work on Monday, so we figured why not just let them have fun? However, on Sunday evening when a van rolled in from New Brunswick, Canada loaded with more relatives carrying suitcases, sleeping bags and pillows we had to address the guest issue, as we were becoming quite concerned about the volume of guests and the impact on a septic system for a rental that is clearly stated to be for 2 to 4 people.

Sometimes a rental is just not a good match, and we think this was a good example of that. If these guests had told us they were looking for a setting where they could dock a boat while entertaining a very large family from dusk to dawn we certainly would have suggested this would not be the best choice for them.
