Our family owned, 2-story vintage beach house, hand crafted by Master carpenters and masons, will provide a perfect setting for your Lake Michigan experience.

Backed by 10 wooded acres, with 300 feet of private white sand beach in front, this friendly cottage will draw you back time and again. From the stunning lake views to the gently rolling surf, you will be immersed in genuine historic Lake Michigan ambience.

An efficient kitchen welcomes you as your eye is drawn to the beautiful view from the dining area. The Master bedroom and bath opens off the dining area and sleeps two. The Great room with its massive floor-to-ceiling field stone fireplace is opposite. Upstairs the bright and cheery East bedroom overlooks the lake, while the cozy knotty pine West bedroom faces the woods. The east Bunkroom accommodates another 2 sleepers as well. Even the most wide awake will be lulled to sleep by the cool lake air and sound of the surf.

The front door off the Great room opens onto a covered porch and uncovered patio, just the place for leisurely morning coffee, picnic lunches or afternoon cocktails. The front lawn with its lannon stone fire ring is great for cozy campfires under the stars, ghost stories and toasted marshmallows. The private beach is just the ticket for sun bathing, inner tubing and swimming. Known as the best surfing in the midwest when the surf is up, it is great for swimming and kayaking when the lake is calm. Extensive gradual sandbars and shallows means that the water is usually warmer than the rest of Lake Michigan and is just over 6 feet deep over 100 feet from shore.

Located just minutes south of Sheboygan, the area abounds with things to see and do. Nearby (1 mile) Kohler-Andrae State Park, with its nature center, famous sand dunes, and biking trails are a nature lovers dream. For those more interested in indoor pursuits, the shops at Kohler and the world class American Club spa are only 15 minutes away. World famous Elkhart Lake auto racing is just 30 minutes away.

Boat launches are available both north in Sheboygan, and south at the county park if you are after trophy lake trout or salmon. In September and October the property will accomodate 1 bowhunter.

For golf lovers, a multitude of golf courses are available including highly regarded Black Wolf Run and Whistling Straits, host of the 2010 PGA Championship.

About The Owner

Peter's grandparents built the cottage and in 2007 we were able to once again get the cottage back in the family. Our children have since been able to enjoy the beach and cottage just like he did growing up. We love the vintage feel of the cottage because it takes us back to the simple things in life - family, fun and time together enjoying both.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2007

The location is great since you can easily get to the world famous American Club and days spa, Milwaukee, or Chicago for the day, but come home to the quiet and stars for a quiet walk on the beach at night.

Notes: Internet access is available at the Oostburg Public Library - but we highly recommend that everyone unplugs and relaxes. The temperature and breezes lakeside keep everything comfortable without air conditioning. If you are lucky enough to have a particularly hot week, bring a fan or pick one up at the local shopping areas.

Perfect family beach retreat!

We have 4 kids (10, 6, 4 and a newborn) and wanted/needed a relaxing beach getaway within a short drive of Chicago. This house was perfect. The white sand beach is stunning and the house is beautiful and well stocked - the kids loved all the beach toys! Kohler-Andrae State Park is close by, as is a fishing pond (Friends Fishing Pond), a pick your own berry farm, bike riding, lots of great restaurants (Majerle's Black River Grill, Duke of Devon, Field to Fork) and more. There was something for everyone. Lake Michigan's waves helped the newborn fall asleep quickly at night (we really liked that!). We stayed a full week and hope to go back again soon!

Very Relaxing

Our family of teenagers and grown kids loved the property. It is secluded, quiet, and has many features that make it a great place to settle in and relax. The property is lovely–the house is much bigger than I pictured. We all had plenty of room and with multiple table/chair sets in and outside the house, we had lots of options of where to set up our card or board games, read a book, or watch the lake.

The huge variety of lake toys really made our time in the water fun. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans–a bigger assortment than in many cabins I have stayed in.

The owner was very engaged, responsive, and helpful. You don't always hear back from owners very quickly to learn of availability and she was just great.

We enjoyed biking into Oostburg and had excellent fish fry at Main Street Koffie in Cedar Grove.

Very Private - Great Location

Wonderful older house with all the basic needs covered.The property was clean and very tidy. We were two families with kids, ages 10-13. Lots of room for everybody. We loved all the floating devices and beach toys. Great location, very private and still close to shopping, dining, fishing etc. The single bathroom could use some updating - but still was not a problem for us 8 people. We brought along kayaks and enjoyed paddling along the shore. We all had a very relaxing week!

The property is a good one if you have kids. The kids loved the bunks in the bedrooms and we loved the boating equipment that was provided. Owners will correspond with you to help you find the equipment you need to get going, so call them. Only inconvenience is no laundry. Still and all, it is a great place to slow down, and reconnect with nature, being so close to the water. Lots of restaurants and shopping in nearby Sheboygan and Kohler. The cottage is lovingly decorated with a nod to the local Dutch culture.
