A Little Bit of Heaven

What can we say.? This is our sixth vacation to Kiawah - the second in 2008. The house was in a perfect location - and in wonderful condition.(the photos online don't convey to the viewer how really lovely the place is). It is a quick 3 minute walk to the beach - 10 minutes or less - depending on your route- to the Sanctuary. The house came with many amenities - well-stocked with kitchen equipment, lots of detergent, disher washer and laundry soaps, and bathroom items. These all may sound trivial - but it's so nice not to have to pack or buy these items once you arrive.( It would be nice to have had a couple of blow dryers- attached to the bathroom walls, though). Very thoughtful of the owners. Newer beach chairs and boogie-boards, a great mix of reading materials for all ages. We made use of 4 of the wonderful golf courses - plenty of alligators to view from a distance on the courses. For on-island dining go to Jasmine Porch at the Sanctuary, for a nice small breakfast buffet in a spectacular setting - visit the clubhouse at the Ocean course - Shrimpers in West Village shoppig area offers good light fare for all. Then get in your car and head to Fresh Field's and a nice meal at Hege's - and onto Bohicket Marina for a fine meal at Rosebank Farms - you MUST try the veal meatloaf?? Right, we never heard of it either , nor had we ever tried it on previous visits. But, oh my goodness, what a treat! We had 2 wonderful dinners in Charleston - S.N.O.B. and High Cotton. Even with all of this eating out we also used the gas grill at the house. Went with our adult kids on a kayak trip in the early am - lovely. Make sure you rent bikes - this is an easy way to get around and there are so many nice bike paths. Even on hot days you can ride in virtual shade for miles and miles. Good nighttime entertainment in the various seating areas of the Sanctuary Hotel. The house came with pool access but we never used it - although was only a block away and looked very nice. We just used the beach. Kiawah is wonderful - come one, come all. Pure Paradise courtesy of our landlords- who were most accommodating when we called with a few last minute questions. One additional note: you can purchase groceries right outside the entry to Kiawah at the Freshfields shopping complex - the prices at their SuperMarket are not high - and they have a Starbucks! also check out the weekly concert series on the lawn at FreshFields.
