Our family lives in Florida without seasons and with plenty of summer heat and humidity. The Highlands house has been in the family for 4 generations and is really special to all of us. We very much enjoy the cool weather in the summer and the wonderful change of seasons in the fall. Guests usually want to come back every year. This mountain house will make your visit a very pleasant experience.

DIANA purchased this house in 1950

This house is on Lake Sequoyah offering fishing and boating. Canoes are available for rent at a nearby restaurant. Hiking is right in the neighborhood or on the local trails around Highlands.

The shopping in downtown Highlands, fresh fruit and vegetable available in Dillard, mountain hiking, photographing waterfalls and mountain river vistas on the Cullasaja River between Highlands and Franklin hwy 64 are some of the things that we love about the area. Kids like the wild life museum in Highlands, exploring for gems in Franklin and easy hikes up Sunset mountain in downtown Highlands.

Beautiful and roomy home in a perfect setting

I've rented mountian homes in NC, TN and GA for years, and this place may be my favorite. I've never felt more at home in a place that I didn't own. It was difficult to leave as I became very attached to it.
This is a wonderful home in a natural setting with an ideal location. This property has a sense of history and authenticity that simply doesn't exist in newer "cabins" that have been built for use as rentals. Take a kayak or canoe and enjoy the serenity of Lake Sequoyah. The magic of Highlands lies in the fact that it is at 4,100 ft. elevation yet you have everything you need without traversing typically treacherous mountain roads. I've kissed the ground after reaching some of the homes I've rented in the mountains, but you won't have that issue here.
The owner of this property is a pleasure to deal with, and this home is an excellent value compared to other homes that I've rented in Highlands. I left this house relaxed and recharged, and it truly exceeded my expectations in most every regard.

We had a wonderful time in the mountains and your house was a delight. I would call it a real authentic mountain house with some pleasant surprises. We especially enjoyed the spacious rooms and flexible seating when family came over for dinner. Kitchen was well stocked and spacious.
The woods adjacent to your house are fabulous and we found many wildflowers including: Wild Ginger, Lady Slippers, Trillium and on. My granddaughter found the path to Webmont and we walked to Cliffside lake for a picnic.

Thank you and we hope to visit again when we have the occasion to bring family to Highlands.

Our experience was most excellent:
The house is warm with antiques and traditional cabin decor with a beautiful hearth. The pristine amenities in the kitchen make inhouse meals a cinch. The porch is a great place to drink the morning coffee and catch the sun warmth in midday fall. It is quiet.
The view of the lake , mountians, and behind the house a trail leading through the woods to a quiet road to a beautiful horse pasture, small farms with creeks, ponds & gardens, and nice homes make a wonderful hiking area. We took several pictures in this area of the kids and family against these magnificent backgrounds. Several trout fishing opportunities are near by , and the nearby Smoke House restaurant on the way in to Highlands provides great food and atmosphere at a great price for family. All you can want or need eating bugget, luxury, or store provision is quickly had on the way to and in Highlands. I would definitely head this way again. The owners are warm friendly people great to converse and deal with. It was everything that Vrbo listing portrayed ,and more. We found its location highly convenient.

What a Wonderful Vacation!

It is a friendly and comfortable home, stately and immaculate. It invites you to relax. Cares and tensions dissolve in the cool nights and peaceful days. In the late afternoons the temperature sometimes gets into the high 70's -- what a difference from the high 90's back home!

The grounds are rich with Rhododendrons and Mountain Laurels, and the overstory consists of tall majestic pines.

Yes, we relax, read, unwind. But there is also a lot to do in Highlands, Franklin, Cashiers. They are all nearby, and the drives to them are marvelous adventures with amazing scenery.

In summary, the place has charm, style and class. It is good for the soul. We return year after year, and we plan to continue to do so.

Wonderful escape in a beautiful location

My husband, another couple and I spent the 4th of July weekend at this precious mountain house. The location is perfect with a view of the lake and right down the road from the center of Highlands which has become the "Hamptons of Atlanta". It is also not far from Cashiers, NC, where there was a music festival over the weekend. At the house, each couple had plenty of privacy and their own bathroom. There's lots of room and it is very clean. The kitchen is updated and very nice, though we did not do much cooking given all the wonderful restaurants in Highlands. We enjoyed breakfast every morning on the deck and then watched fireworks from the deck on the 4th. The dining table is large and can accomodate several people in the event you want to have guests for dinner. Less than a city block down the road is a restaurant called On the Verandah that can be booked on Opentable.com. It is right on the lake and the food is incredible. Next door you can rent canoes and paddle around the lake. This gem is a great place to get "off grid" to relax and away from work and heat. One guest said that at night it is so dark that he couldn't tell the difference between his eyes being open or closed. I highly recommend this rental house!

Our favorite restaurant is downtown at the grocery store-Mountain Fresh. They are open for breakfast and lunch. Be sure to get lunch there--the burgers and homemade soups are the best in town. They also have take out for dinner if you call ahead.
