I manage the home for my son who bought this great cottage because of it's location, access to Traverse City nightlife, restaurants and shops within 5 minutes, the privacy and size of the lot. We put in a second driveway for those wishing to bring a boat or those driving more than 2 cars. We all love Traverse City so much that we wanted to have a rental where people could come unwind, relax and have fun taking in all of our golf courses, shops, festivals and beautiful watersports.

Jayne Frank purchased this cottage in 2004

Because of rental restrictions, this is one of a very few cottages or homes close to downtown Traverse City. We are only 5 minutes away. Grocery stores are very convenient as well. There is something for everyone in your group just around the corner - golfing, cinemas, boating, swimming and shopping. The home is on a corner lot and affords a great amount of privacy for the family.

Two driveways, garage and picnic table in back, 2 driveways and corner lot. Sleeping for up to 10 people available. LOCATION IS IDEAL

GREAT LOCATION. GREAT LITTLE BEACH ACROSS THE STREET. HOUSE HAS SOME ISSUES

  • 4 of 5
Would like to give 3.5 stars, but I bumped it up to 4. First, about the location. It was great. The house is quiet street with a very quiet sandy little beach directly across the street. The water was great for swimming. The kids loved it! It's very close to Traverse City, and there's a great recreation park 1/2 mile away accessible by a walking trail or by car. The house has a few issues. Some of the windows would not open/close correctly. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms are very small. But our biggest concern was the mold. The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, along with the laundry area smelled very strongly of mold. If you have mold allergies, be warned. The house was clean, and no pet hair to be found anywhere for a house that allows dogs. Also, the front lawn sprinklers run pretty much constantly throughout the day. Rain or shine. This makes it very hard for kids to play out on the front lawn. Some of the sprinklers shoot water up onto the deck. If you're sitting in certain chairs, be alert! You may get soaked. Don't leave anything out on the deck you don't want to get wet. Also, if your car is parked on the side driveway, be sure to roll up your windows, the sprinklers will douse your car with water. Also, be sure to keep the dining room floor clean. We had ants show up frequently when there were crumbs of food on the floor. Other than the above stated problems, the house was very nice. Thank you!

Owner's Response: We are very troubled that if this guest thought there were issues with his stay that he did not once contact us. We would have reduced the range of the sprinklers or just turned them off. They do not reach the deck at any time except when there is a strong breeze off the lake. As far as the mold issue, this is absolutely untrue; there is absolutely no mold whatsoever in this house. The smaller bedrooms as he mentioned are right outside of where the hot tub is located for privacy and what he probably smelled are the chemicals in the tub as they recirculate during the nighttime hours. We personally made several home improvements in the house (especially laundry area) consisting of new floor and painting of the kitchen and there is certainly no mold there as well.

Unfortunately what usually happens when it rains constantly during a guest's stay, as it did during this particular week, is that people fabricate problems where there are none out of their frustration from having spent vacation money only to have it rain.

CADDY SHACK REUNION

  • 4 of 5
Caddy Shack worked out perfectly for eight 65 year old college roommates from the east coast. We were delighted that no one had to sleep on a pull out sofa. We shared the queen and king beds. The house was very clean and had lots of bath towels and dishes. It could use a few more coffee mugs but had glasses galore. We really appreciated the ice maker and the dishwasher. The dining table seats 8 comfortably when fully extended and the living area has room to sit and play games (bring your own). The furnishing are well worn but adequate. We happened to hit the hottest week in years but the window air-conditioners kept the house cool.

The beach access is directly across the street and has a great sand beach. The lake is very clean and was wonderful to swim and float in. The house does not have any beach stuff so bring your own. We headed to Meijers and bought noodles to float on. We did not use the hot tub but it looked clean. We did enjoy the front deck area in the morning and early evening.

Attractions: Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leland FishTown, Suttons Bay and Arbor Glen make a nice day trip; Old MIssion Peninsula Lighthouse, wineries and cherry picking made for another fun day; shopping in Traverse City and rthe estored the sanitorium, Grand Traverse Commons, is recommended; Interlochen Music Camp (a short 15 minutes south) is a highlight for music lovers, you can wander throughout the camp and listen to rehersals, practices and performances from these talented students.

Dining: Scott's Habor Grill, Apache Trout, Amical, North Peak Brewing and Phil's in Traverse City; The Mission Table, Boat House and Jolly Pumpkin on the peninsula; Martha's in Sutton Bay. Restaurants do not take reservations, even for eight and the wait can be more than an hour for dinning after 5:30. We headed to the peninsula where it was not as crowded.

I highly recommend the house for families or couples.

A GREAT AND RELAXING VACATION.

  • 5 of 5
We used the facility during the week of July 3rd of 2010. My wife and i traveled with our daughter and son in law and baby grandson. Everything about the house and the surroundings was awesome. The house is very comfortable and has very adequate A/C. The kitchen had plenty of space and equipment so that we were able to prepare most of our meals. Lake access is across the street and the beach was very nice and clean. All together for the rental price, we highly recommend Caddyshack!
