Overview

Asheville House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This charming home in the heart of Asheville recalls the elegance of bygone days. The ground floor has a full 1250 square feet of private space, including 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room with sleeper sofa, and a large, fully equipped kitchen and dining area.

Green Gables of Asheville, restored by the Interior Designer/Owner, features high coffered ceilings and original period details throughout. Each of the two large bedrooms has its own wood-burning fireplace and seating area. The living room, furnished with the comfortable elegance of 1920's period antiques, features a third fireplace and a large flat screen with high definition cable TV and DVD player. There are beautiful antique chandeliers, ceiling fans, and restored heart-of-pine wood floors throughout.

The large second bathroom (en-suite master bath) features twin lavatories, a shower, and a deep soaking tub in a separate alcove with an antique stained glass window and candle sconces on the tumbled-travertine walls. The porcelain floor tiles are heated. Plug cell phones and computers directly into special wall outlets for recharging.

Green Gables is CLOSE TO EVERYTHING – so take a break from sightseeing or shopping to relax on the huge wrap around porch. Sit in the romantic swing that overlooks the gardens or dine al fresco, and watch the dozens of birds that frequent the bird feeders all day long. The porch is the place to gather on balmy summer evenings to watch the moon rise and to soak up the relaxing, candlelight atmosphere.

Maps and activity guides are provided to help you plan your days and evenings. The home is provided with every convenience – soaps, shampoo and luxury towels, cable TV and CD player (IPod ready), lots of board games, entertainment libraries, wireless high-speed internet, unlimited long distance telephone, a fully equipped gourmet kitchen with outdoor gas grill, cribs and high chair for babies, and luxurious linens and pillow-top mattresses that promise a restful night’s sleep.

The famous BILTMORE ESTATE is only four minutes away, and Asheville’s restaurants, coffee houses, museums, art galleries, and live entertainment are even closer. Shoppers will love the boutiques and the charming, eclectic shops. Many antique stores and warehouses are located less than 10 minutes away – an antique hunter’s paradise with bargains galore. You can walk (15 minutes) to a great organic grocery store. The area is also great for sports enthusiasts. It's a 15-minute walk to one of the best clay tennis courts in the US and a 10-minute drive to the nearest golf course. Great biking - level bike paths near the house (including Biltmore Estate bike paths), and hilly terrain in town and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is even a skateboard park within walking distance.

A 7 minute walk brings you to the River Arts District with sidewalk cafes and more than 135 artists’ studios, where some of the best art in America is produced. Other nearby activities include spas, YWCA (10 minute walk), live music & dancing (17 minute walk), yoga (including Bikram Yoga), farmers markets, and University of North Carolina activities – and much, much more. This elegant and luxurious vacation homestay is a place to experience a romantic getaway that you will remember always.

Green Gables is pet friendly and child friendly. Well-behaved dogs will be considered (pet fee applies.) There is a large fenced dog park nearby. The veranda and front yard are fenced and gated for the security of small children and pets. Low-rise beds are available for small children, as well as cribs, high chair, and baby bath. The elegant and luxurious designer fabrics are all washable, pillows and cushions are slip-covered. The sturdy antique furniture has been selected to withstand use. Excellent facilities for day care and summer camp programs are located nearby.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time at Green Gables! Finding accommodation for a 10-month-old & two dogs isn't easy, and this was a perfect spot close to downtown, the Biltmore, and the NC Arboretum. Thanks again!

Perfect location! Great host!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this charming home while vacationing with our three children. Georgia went out of her way to make sure our stay was perfect. We arrived to homemade cookies and a bottle of wine and she was kind enough to set up a small bed for our 2 year old! She had many helpful suggestions for restaurants and activities and was always available when needed. The location is perfect, as it is only a 5 minute drive to the downtown area & many great restaurants. We would highly recommend this rental & hope to stay again in the future! Many, many thanks, Georgia!

Comfy, cozy, convenient!

  • 5 of 5

We were called to Asheville for last minute business and I reached out to Georgia via VBRO who graciously accommodated our last minute travel plans. A beautifully renovated Craftsman bungalow in the heart of downtown Asheville, conveniently located. Comfortable and abundantly stocked, we were so glad to have such a lovely place to return in the evening after long and busy days. We slept peacefully in the gorgeous master bedroom. Georgia also was well prepared for our son's needs with a portable crib and high chair for his use. She even had milk waiting for us in the refrigerator! We will happily return and were grateful for such wonderful accommodations!

Exceptional!!

  • 5 of 5

We have been booking vacations for several years through VRBO. In most cases, the minimum reflected amenities were met as indicated in the on-line description and pictures. However, regarding Green Gables, every amenity was exceeded. Truly, this is the BEST vacation rental we have ever enjoyed. Georgia goes WAY out of her way to make you feel special and warmly welcomed. We enjoyed everyday we were there, great conversations on the porch and veranda with Georgia, taking Duncan (our Airedale) on many walks by the river and in the wonderfully pet friendly downtown of Asheville. The Cottage is a true 'sight to behold' in an of itself. The landscaping is stunning as is the décor of the home, beautifully fashioned with antiques. We have NEVER had such a complete kitchen and a bountiful supply of towels and accoutrements for the baths. Georgia, it was a wonderful week for us and I hope we can return someday to continue our relaxing on the porch and having great conversations. It was a great trip.!! Thank you for making it special.

Wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a marvelous time in Green Gables. The location is quite good as it's within a 5 minute drive of downtown, Biltmore, groceries, and more. The house itself was nicely appointed with everything we needed. The bottle of wine, cookies for the kids, and doggie treat for our dog were greatly appreciated. We certainly recommend staying at this home.

Awesome place to stay in Asheville- private, central, and fully stocked

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in a lot of vacation rentals, B&Bs, and hotels, and this was one of the best. We will definitely be going back. In the past we have stayed at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Biltmore Village- which was great and dog friendly. But this year we have a new baby, in addition to our toddler, and an au pair in tow. So we were originally looking for two hotel rooms or a rental house. The problem with most rental houses is they are completely unstocked (bring your own toilet paper) and partial weeks are not always allowed. And in hotels it is such a pain to let the dog out in the morning, or get a coffee in pajamas without braving the lobby. As my husband said, the best thing about Green Gables was that it was totally kid friendly without LOOKING kid friendly- it was tastefully and luxuriously decorated and would equally suit an older couple or ladies' getaway.?Green Gables was PERFECT. The owner, Georgia, lives in a separate apartment on the second floor of the house. So we had the entire ground floor of the house, its porches and yard all to ourselves, and we only saw Georgia when we arrived. There is even has a keyless code-accessed door so you don't have to "check in" to get the keys. Georgia runs it like a European pension- she provides everything you would get at a B&B, but there are no other guests to contend with, so much more privacy. She stocks breakfast items in the fridge (milk, fruit, bread), shampoos and soaps in bathrooms, etc. We did not need to do any grocery shopping upon arrival which was a huge relief- the house was INCREDIBLY WELL STOCKED: salt, pepper, coffee and filters, paper towels, a hair dryer, a full size fridge with ice already made, gas stove, washer, dryer, even everything we needed for the kids- pack n plays, high chair, baby bath, etc. The fenced yard was perfect for us to be able to get up in the mornings and let our toddler and dog play in the yard while we got organized to go hiking or walk downtown. YES WALK DOWNTOWN- even with a stroller it took us 20 minutes to get to the very center of Asheville on foot. It is a great location! Georgia just remodeled the Master bedroom to include a huge ensuite bathroom with double sinks and a deep soaking tub. It was very nice, clean, modern, and the perfect space for our family. ??
