Nerja and Capistrano Playa:
Nerja, only 45 mins drive from Malaga airport (note N 340 has been renumbered A 7), is unspoilt by high-rise holiday development and retains its unique Andalucian character. In addition to the famous Burriana Beach, Nerja boasts many small coves reached by walking the Paseo de los Carabineros from Burriana to the Balcon. Swim or relax on the beach. Take the sun as you eat the fresh caught sardines on the beachfront Cafes. For the more energetic, scuba and diving trips can be arranged for experienced and novices alike. Excursions can be arranged from the resort and other attractions include horse riding and walking. The famous prehistoric caves can be visited all year round.
Nerja is not just a summer resort; it retains its unique charm all year round claiming the best climate in Europe. This is in part due to the surrounding Almijara mountains whose pine-clad slopes shelter the resort and provide stunning views and ideal countryside for walkers. Capistrano Playa has its own restaurant and snack bar next to the swimming pool. The communal facilities include two swimming pools. NB: Pool subject to closure for maintenance in winter period. Due to the location of the apartments the setting may not be suitable for those with special mobility needs.
Local to Nerja:
Visit nearby Moorish hill villages such as Frigiliana and Competa and sample the local wines and cuisine. Drive to Lake Vinuela and Canillas de Aceituna on the fringes of the forested National Park. Drive the coast road and take paths down to the many coves and semi-deserted beaches formed as the mountains tumble into the sea. The spectacular Cerro Gordo peninsular affords views back along Granada province and also Granada province with its delightful coastal towns. Between La Herradura and Almunecar lies Marina del Este. Why not take a coffee watching the yachts bobbing in the harbour. On to Motril and north towards Granada. Off the main road to visit Valle de Lecrin or Orgiva, made famous by Chris Stewart's Driving Over Lemons. Then on to Granada, the Alhambra Palace and the Sierra Nevada in easy driving distance. Why not mix a beach and ski holiday? So much to see and do.
Take a holiday out of season and spend your time around this wonderful corner of Andalucia.
