I can't imagine a better, centrally located apartment in DC. I just returned from an 11 night stay and couldn't be more pleased with my choice of accomodations. Subway (Gallery/Chinatown) less than 2 blocks away and a city bus stop right outside the door. All sorts of restaurant, mostly Chinese (all good), but including other types of cuisine. Neighbors were friendly and helpful and I (a single female traveler) felt safe. Nice apartment at a price I can't imagine could be beat. Eddie, the owner, couldn't have been nicer, friendlier or helpful. I'd rent this apartment again in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, I hope to do just than in the future.
My friend and I stayed at Eddie's apartment in the heart of Chinatown. We were able to take the metro from DCA airport and find the apt. just a short distance away from the Metro stop near the Chinatown arch. The apt has a comfy queen size bed in it's 1 bedroom and also a sink in the bedroom. The 3/4 bath has a nicely tiled shower , floor and sink of course. Eddie has done some remodeling recently as the paint was fresh and there are plenty of electrical outlets for your devices to charge. There are 2 double futons that serve as sofas, they may be a good bed when opened up but I didn't try. There is a dining table and chairs a kitchen area with a sink , fridge, microwave and coffee maker. There is a liquor store across the street or on the corner and well as a small market for light groceries. I ate meals at the Pho place across the street and the Chinese restaurant downstairs and to the left of Eddies apartment stairs. The location is awesome. So close to the Metro, the bus is also right outside the door and my daughter and I walked over to the Tidal basin to check out the amazing cherry blossoms. The apt was clean and basic but had coffee for the coffee maker, a hairdryer, an ironing board and iron, a tv, a boom box and extra towels . It was real city living and my friend and I had a great trip using the apartment as home base. I appreciate that Eddie offers his apartment at a very reasonable rate. If you are looking for practical, great locale and clean , this is it. If your looking for fancy, keep looking.
As former Washingtonians, we wanted to stay in the new live/work/play neighborhood of Penn Quarter/Chinatown. You can walk/Metro to everything and are surrounded by great restaurants and so much to do. Hotel accommodations can be expensive in this area. Ed's apartment is a well-priced, centrally located alternative. He could not be a nicer, more attentive landlord! He even arranged to have his housekeeper let us back in after our departing flight was cancelled. Lucky for us, we got to stay an extra day!!!
Don't be put off by the "urban element" resulting from a homeless shelter being around the corner. We spoke to several of the local police officers who ensure the neighborhood is very safe, even at night.
My father and I rented Ed's apartment for about half a week while we were visiting D.C. in March 2012. Not only did the apartment have everything we needed, but Ed was also extremely responsive during the rental process and very accommodating of our requests throughout our stay. There are a ton of restaurants nearby open very late, so you'll definitely never starve in this apartment (that is, unless you don't like Chinese food). Parking in the back can get a bit tight--even for a small sedan, but it's definitely doable. The one, true downside I noticed was that some people tended loiter on the block and in the parking area out back. While I didn't have any issue arise during my stay, I might have felt uncomfortable staying in the area as a solo-female traveler.
Overall, this apartment is great for someone who is willing to trade the bells and whistles of fancier hotel rooms for a clean and convenient apartment with all the basic amenities. Plus, considering the typical D.C. prices, this apartment's a steal!
We weren't sure what to expect at this was our first time using VRBO. I mean, how do you really know what you are getting by a few photos and a handful of reviews???
Here are our observations. This apartment was clean and we felt safe in this area, though DC residents love to sit on the steps that lead up to the front door. This building is right in front of a Metro bus stop. All those sitting on the steps, though, were seemingly apologetic and politely moved out of our way.
The property is in a wonderful location and, with a good pair of comfortable shoes, is easily walkable to many of DC's main attractions. We particularly enjoyed the Corner Bakery Cafe directly across the street for breakfast and afternoon sandwiches.
This apartment has a nice, clean bathroom, plenty of hot water for the shower and great towels. All linens seemed clean and the bed was comfortable enough. We did NOT see any bugs or roaches of any kind.
The back bedroom was quiet enough and provided for a good night's sleep. Though if anyone in the apartment above is walking around in hard-soled shoes you can easily hear them. The front part of the apartment, where the futons are located, is much more noisy. Street traffic is VERY noticeable there.
The apartment has a coffee maker and hot water maker for my morning tea, but just a motel-sized refrigerator without an ice maker. The place does have an iron and ironing board for your use. It has two TVs. Lots of magazines to read during idle times. There were plenty of maps, brochures and a helpful list of nearby stores and restaurants that Eddie provided. That was a nice touch, I thought.
The owner Eddie made sure all was well and we appreciate him introducing himself to us. He seemed genuinely interested in us enjoying our stay.
There was a slight cold spell during our stay and the heating system worked well.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again.
My family of four stayed here the week before and including Christmas and found the place to be just fine. The listing is very accurate and the unit was clean, spacious, and in an interesting part of town. The unit is clean and having a private bedroom with vanity was great for a family. The owner was very helpful in answering all of our questions about our stay. The location is great if you plan on walking to all of the sites. The neighborhood is interesting and a bit noisy with much activity throughout the night so getting used to that was our biggest challenge but not too bad. Many good restaurants in the area. Thanks Ed for making our stay a good one!
