BEST OF BOTH WORLDS - IN THE JUNGLE & ON THE BEACH

Dominical House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

Caballitos del Mar is a unique property located on the beach south of Dominical in Puntarenas Province. Located in the "Zona Maritima", it is as close as you can be to the gorgeous Playa Dominical, with its broad sand beaches, monument rocks, and world-class surfing. The property has towering trees over 100' tall which are the homes for kinkajous, toucans, and monkeys. The one acre parcel is fully landscaped, but nature is the predominant theme, with natural foliage and wildlife at your doorstep.

Dominical is a small village on the South Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, and is known for its consistently excellent surfing. The beach is broad and shallow, and allows swimming, surfing, and just cooling off. The lifestyle in the area is reminiscent of Kauai or Maui, with wonderful small restaurants with a variety of cuisines, surf shops with instruction, and renowned Spanish language school called AEC (Adventure Education Center).

The school is a 30 minute walk on the beach (low tide) or on the jungle paths. Quality restaurants are also easy walking or biking distances, or just a few minutes by car.

The home has two stories, with a full kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and master bedroom on the first floor. The second floor has two more bedrooms, two full baths, and a loft area which can accommodate another guest.

Each bedroom is air-conditioned, and there are 7 fans throughout the home for additional ventilation. All windows are opening, and there are sliding glass doors in each bedroom and the living room. All windows and sliding doors have screens.

The pools are gorgeous, with blue tile basins and crystal clear water. They are the perfect way to cool off in the afternoon and to enjoy a glass of wine at sunset.

Eco-tourism is the only kind of tourism in Costa Rica, and the best excursions are on the South Pacific Coast. In less than an hour, you can be on horseback riding towards Nayuca Waterfalls, or on a boat on Rio Sierpe headed for the Osa Peninsula, or riding a zipline in nearby Hacienda Baru. A variety of excursion booking services are located in Dominical or at one of the excellent resorts in the area like Villas Rio Mar or Cuna de Angel. Rates are very reasonable, and we've never been disappointed by the quality or hospitality of the tours.

While many properties may claim to be "unique", we make that claim with confidence. We spent several years going through the permitting process that allows us to build in this very special, very protected Zona Maritima, and you'll not find a property within 50 miles that has the privacy, easy access to the beach, and jungle surroundings as Caballitos del Mar.

Dominical is now less than 3 hours by car from San Jose and the Costa Rica's main airport (which is served by American, Continental, Frontier, Taca, and other major airlines.) From the US, gateway cities include Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, and Miami. Rental cars are easily available for $40 to $80 per day from major companies, and the driving is courteous but the roads vary in quality.

Two main highways connect San Jose to Dominical, one of which takes approximately 3 hours (airport to home, along the coast) and the other takes 4 hours (over a 10,500' mountain pass). There are also regional airlines which serve Quepos (1 hour north) and Palmar Norte (1 hour south) from San Jose. You can also arrange private bus service from San Jose and for larger parties and the cost is very reasonable.

We have other homes available in Dominical with discounts offered for multiple home rentals. Please contact us for more information.

I have been an audiologist for over 30 years and have a private practice in Los Gatos, California. Although I work indoors, my heart is in outdoor adventures with friends - whether its river rafting, bicycling, kayaking, skiing, backpacking or hiking. Our home in Dominical is a phenomenal place to relax - with adventure that surrounds you.

This is fulfillment of a dream: to have a tropical home in the jungle...on the beach...in a private environmentally protected area. Amazing!

Immediate beach access. Wildlife including monkeys, toucans, iguanas. Warm swimming pools and a modern home. World-class surfing and access to the ocean. Excellent restaurants and a variety of cuisines in the surrounding area. Rural, with good roads for access to Quepos/ Manuel Antonio Park (north) , the Osa Peninsula (south) San Isidro de General, and San Jose/Cartago (east).

PARADISE FOUND!

  • 5 of 5
We (2 couples) stayed here for a week, and it was pure heaven! I was a little leary about booking a rental house over the internet, but John (the owner) and Frederico (the manager) made it so easy! (Not to mention my Google searches on them came up positive) I didn't feel comfortable wiring funds, so I was given the option of Credit Card or personal check. That was nice. All of my questions were answered by Frederico, and when requested, he even had previous renters contact me to provide feedback and suggestions for our trip.
Arrival: We flew into San Jose and stayed at the New Courtyard Marriott right next to the airport. We had Wild Rides rental deliver a car (4x4) to the hotel the next morning, and drove the three hours to Dominical. The trip was great, and we even stopped to see the crocodiles below the bridge on the way. The directions I recieved from Frederico were easy to follow, and we found the driveway easily (marked with a striped pole.) As soon as we arrives, the caretakers daughtergreeted us. She showed us the amazing house, and left us to get settled. Jennifer (caretaker) came to greet us soon after, told us where the grocery store was and a little about Dominical and surrounding areas.
House: At first, I was a little disappointed the house was between two others, but not to worry. The plants in between the three houses kept the house and pool private. When we had neighbors (only a couple days) we barely saw/heard them. Other than that, it is very secluded :) The beach, though not private, seems like it is. We only saw asomeone from one of the other houses once. It really felt like it was "our beach". Dominical was an easy walk down the beach in low tide. We walked to a couple restaurants (Roca Verde and the one next to it - can't remember the name) They were both delicious, and took maybe 5 minutes to walk to.
This was a fantastic vacation, and we had a perfect balance of relaxing by/in the pool (daily) playing in the ocean (daily) and exploring the dirt roads through the jungle via car and an adventure ATV tour. Dominical is so beautiful, as the jungle comes down to the ocean. We even saw monkeys in the trees one eveining while lounging in the pool. If there is anything I could say that wasn't perfect, would be the seating in the house. The couches were not great for lounging or watching TV - but who needs that in Costa Rica? We ate many meals poolside & enjoyed ourselves thoroughly!! We'll be back! PURA VIDA!!

RELAXING VERANDA

  • 5 of 5
The listing description & photos are accurate. There was a great view of the beach from the house. You can hear the waves from the house. The house was clean and well maintained. The lady that managed the house was very sweet and helpful. She went above and beyond the call of duty for us even late in the evening when we needed some help. I would recommend this place. I went to Hacienda Baru, about 5 minutes from the house. It was beautiful, the monkeys were plentiful and fascinating to watch and listen to. The pool was large and so cool to relax in. I have walked on many a beaches from mustang island in Texas, Maui in Hawaii, to Tortuga Beach in the Galapagos Island. Hear on Dominical Beach I finally found a perfect sand dollar. What a treasure. We went Horseback Riding at a near by town to some falls. It was so much fun.

WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY AND ENJOY COSTA RICA!

  • 5 of 5
This house has it all and I WILL be back. The home is well equipped, beautiful, and would be perfect for as many as 3 couples. The ocean view is beautiful, the pool was so nice, and Jennifer (contact at facility) was very helpful and truly on call. Federico was so easy to work with to book the place and answered all our questions before arrival. The Dominical area is full of beautiful views/sights and adventure. When I stay again, I might just stay at the house and enjoy all the amenities.

I was concerned initially about the heat, however, the breezes were constant and so refreshing. The house is built to capture the breezes.

I highly recommend this home. It's everything listed and more. Also, the wifi was excellent and worked from the pool and anywhere in the home. That's a plus for those trying to stay in touch with friends/family back home.

ADVENTURE IN PARADISE!

  • 5 of 5
I spent a week here with my girlfriend and another couple. We had an amazing time at this beautiful, clean and fully equipped villa/home. The house was a wonderful size- Beds were VERY comfortable! The pool was amazing and we used it all thru the day, everyday. It was peaceful, quiet and the weather was perfecto! It has an amazing view of a really beautiful beach steps away from the pool. We would head out to the beach with our glasses of wine to watch the amazing sunsets nightly. Dominical is a short beach walk and a great place to eat, shop, surf and get provisions. All the information presented on this website and provided by the management company was accurate, with no surprises. The management company was available to answer any questions I had before and during my stay. All in all, we were thrilled, and have recommended the house to our extended family who are looking for a similar vacation. I am definitely planning on going back. Pura Vida!

SPECTACULAR HOME IN PERFECT LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5
This was my first time in Costa Rica and we picked the perfect spot! We were pleasantly surprised when we entered this vacation home. We walked into a gorgeous, open floor plan, with a large kitchen, which we used every day. The back-yard had a huge pool, plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and an amazing view of the ocean! We walked on the beach (which went for miles!) every morning with our coffee, and watched beautiful sunsets every night. We enjoyed eating at the outdoor dining table, appreciating the warm weather. There was plenty of room (3 bedrooms) that we definitely could have brought more friends or family.
The location was close to everything we wanted to do. There are great restaurants all around (North and South), and walking distance to "downtown" Dominical where you can watch surfers, shop for Costa Rican souvenirs, and enjoy the cervezas at the local bars.
One of our favorite adventures was the Tree of Life hike we went on, through the Diamante Verde mountain. We experienced the beautiful rainforest, an organic garden, several natural pools and insane waterfalls! Our guide, which happened to be the young owner of this business, made us an amazing meal in a huge cave, over looking 2 waterfalls. This 6-hour hike was worth every step.
I really wish we could've stayed for another week. We needed more time to enjoy the many things there are to do in the surrounding areas. Plus, the house was so relaxing and we absolutely loved the grounds dog, "Soy". Cutest dog ever!
