Living in Northwest Indiana my entire life, it is easy to take the wonder and beauty of the Dunes for granted. Dunes Walk Inn at Furness Mansion reminded me of how special of a place it is. Stepping onto the perfectly manicured lawn of Dunes Walk Inn is like stepping into a world a million miles and years away. The history of the surrounding town blends perfectly with the modern interior and design of the Inn. Each floor boasts different colored walls in bold, fresh colors. The decor is modern and clean with the art on the walls telling the amazing history of the Inn and surrounding town. Set in a small town that has been nearly annexed to extinction, history dating back to the 1800s surround the Inn, and the owners have done an amazing job at embracing it while managing to create a beautiful and modern retreat. The beauty of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, miles of hiking trails and the million dollar houses of Beverly Shores are a few blocks and very short drive away. If you are looking for more things to do, straight down Rt 12 is the Lighthouse Premium Outlets and Blue Chip Casino.
On a personal note, I had planned a beach wedding for April 1st and as a last minute idea booked the Porter Queen Room at Dunes Walk Inn. I am not much for paying to stay in a hotel when my home is 10 min away, however the Dunes Walk Inn saved my wedding day. The common room on the 2nd floor where our suite was allowed plenty of space to do finishing touches to favors and my bouquet. The common living room on the 1st floor allowed my husband to get dressed separately while I stayed on the 2nd floor with my girls. The sudden turn of weather (it was supposed to be 80 degrees. Ended up being 44) left us in a bind since we had planned to stay at the beach until dark but knowing I had a beautiful room at the Inn, our party of 8 headed back there, sat around the table on the 2nd floor while we celebrated our wonderful day. Laying outside, watching the stars with my new husband for hours was like being in our own little world. My hope is to return to Dunes Walk Inn every April 1st, as there is no other place I'd rather spend my anniversary, a place where everything is still, peaceful and simply perfect.
