This cozy cedar-shingled, cottage-style house has a private drive and 1 acre lot with 120 ft of frontage along the North Umpqua River. The spacious private yard features a giant sycamore tree, and a cedar deck overlooking the river below and old-growth forest beyond. A great R&R destination, honeymoon hideout, or anniversary getaway. You can spend an entire day in solitude or take day-trips to the ocean, Crater Lake, wineries, and enjoy many other activities and tours nearby.
It is located 1/4 mile from a store (food, gas, fishing licenses and tackle, beer-wine-liquor, post office) and 3 miles from several restaurants. Once you park here you won't need to drive anywhere, unless you want to explore Crater Lake National Park (75 miles), the Umpqua National Forest (10 miles), or the Wild and Scenic Reach of the North Umpqua River and the 75-mile North Umpqua Trail (2 miles).
This part of the river is famous for year-round fly-fishing for steelhead, and whitewater rafting and kayaking. Also for many short trails to beautiful waterfalls. The local town of Glide has a famous Glide Wildflower Show each April, and the Umpqua valley has winery tours year-round.

I've spent years renovating this and two other riverfront houses to share this beautiful piece of the North Umpqua River with other outdoor lovers. I live nearby and will be sure your stay is a pleasant one.
Rich purchased this house in 2001
The North Umpqua is the most beautiful river on Earth, with strong wild fish, invigorating rapids, and gorgeous scenery. The old-growth forest across the river supports abundant wildlife and exudes serenity.
Watch the eagles, ospreys, and otters patrol the river from the deck along the bank high above the water. Fish for wild trout and steelhead right in front of the house, year-round.
Rich your hospitality knows no bounds! Thanks for providing such a memorable weekend along with the awesome food, sweet cabin, private reserve fishery, and killer wine hangover :).
Absolutely beautiful place! Rich was very friendly and informative. The cabin was impeccably clean, and has all the comforts of home. Home cooked meals are not a problem. The river and the rock nearby were absolutely gorgeous, we loved spending time down there. A beautiful drive away from Crater Lake, and close to SO many wineries. Also not unreasonably far from the Oregon coast. You don't need to leave the cabin, however. It's that beautiful.
WE WILL BE BACK!
We had a great four night stay in the Blue Heron House. Our host, Rich, was friendly and introduced us to the cabin's features such as the wood stove. The cabin was impeccably clean and well-appointed. We had a great time exploring the nearby North Bank Habitat Management Unit, as well as some waterfalls, the colliding rivers, and the small town of Glide, not to mention the beautiful North Umpqua River in the backyard! This won't be our last trip to the Blue Heron House!
We enjoyed our stay in the Blue Heron house on the river. The beautiful deck above the river was a real highlight. The Wifi worked best from there for me and working from the deck was a dream. We didn't catch any fish but weren't discouraged. I think being near river and using the fireplaces would be heavenly. The house has all you need for a great get away!
OUTSTANDING! My wife and I have this on our list of places to return to.
We really enjoyed our weekend here at the Blue heron house. We loved sitting on the deck above the river and watching the blue heron fish and fly by.
We did a lot of mountain biking each day on the nearby trails and loved hanging out on the rocks below afterward and jumping in the river to cool off.
Great breakfast at the Idleyld lodge across the street from the Idleyld store.
The house was perfect and had everything we needed to be comfortable. The wifi is spotty but we managed. Rich was a great host, we will definitely return.
Thanks for the salmon! :)
This cottage is small, compact, and fully equipped to spend a week on the beautiful Umpqua River. The cottage was clean and had a wonderful fireplace for those cool spring nights. The property is so quiet & Rich is an excellent host. We enjoyed fishing and hiking on the North Umpqua Trail. Highly recommended for an affordable way to visit this beautiful part of Oregon.
World-famous year-round flyfishing for steelhead; waterfall hikes, Crater Lake National Park, Pacific Ocean beaches, frisbee golf, Glide Wildflower Show, winery tours, Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, Wild and Scenic River, salmon fishing in May and June.
