LOVELY VICTORIAN COTTAGE ON HISTORIC PROPERTY NEAR SANTA CRUZ

Boulder Creek Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Just one block from the historic town of Boulder Creek in the heart of California’s coastal redwood forest, the Historic Hartman House offers a sunny cottage to call home that is the perfect place for your dream vacation. The Hartman House property is featured in 'Historic Homes of Boulder Creek.'

The Cottage (sleeps up to 6 adults) is a lovely home with an open floor plan perfect for families or couples traveling on a budget. It offers 1 QUEEN bed and 2 FULL sofa sleepers (each sleeper is an actual mattress on a wood frame when pulled out). You will find our cottage located on 1/2 acre in a Victorian farm setting through our heirloom fruit orchard and organic vegetable garden. In addition, there is a great meadow/ lawn area for play or simply relaxing under the apple trees. There is also RV and off street parking and private access to this cottage for ease.

Historic Down Town Boulder Creek is only one block away where you will find many fine restaurants, cafes, antique shops and clothing stores. Book yourself a spa treatment after your fine dining experience, retire to your cottage for a glass of wine and awake refreshed for a walk through Big Basin State Park, where the redwoods grow to 350 feet! On cool nights, snuggle up in front of our vintage wood burning stove (controlled by a thermostat) with a magnificent glass of local wine. Wine tasting, antique hunting, beach combing, and a wealth of outdoor activities—Santa Cruz County has much to offer.

Whether you stay right here in the San Lorenzo Valley or venture to the nearby cities of Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Jose or San Francisco, consider us your home away from home.

In 2004 I started restoring the property right back to its period of significance (1896). While the process was taking place, the locals would come and view the progress and I'd eagerly share my enthusiasm for preservation. I kept getting asked if I'd ever consider opening a bed and breakfast as the cottage was so lovely, they'd like their relatives to stay with me when they came to visit. When the cottage was finished, I could barely keep people away! Having innkeepers in the family already, it was an easy transition to share my property with others. I have had guests come from as far as the UK and as close as 1 mile away. When your guest walks into your establishment for the first time and sighs, 'Wow...it's beautiful'...there is nothing more rewarding!

bio: Tamara has a background in biological science. She left the science world in 2000 and followed her passion for historic preservation by restoring period homes. Since then, she has taken her passion for preservation outside of the home, combining it with her commitment to sustainability in the environment. She is graduate of UC Berkeley in Landscape Architecture. She is also an avid gardener and practices biointensive farming and is very involved in her community.

Historic Boulder Creek is a great example of 'Main Street America' where you can enjoy that small town feel yet you are just minutes away from major cities and attractions. We are located in a world class wine tasting region. We also have great family events like music festivals, parades, and Santa makes a special trip here every year! It's one of the Bay Area's best kept secrets!

It's a great place to recharge your spirit! I've been told over and over how relaxing it is to stay here and we have repeat guests every year! We've had nothing but great reviews on Trip Advisor and Yelp!

The Perfect Atmosphere

We had come to the Santa Cruz area to attend a graduation at UCSC. But, rather than pay too much for a cookie-cutter room in the city we decided to look in the surrounding area, where there are redwoods and rivers and atmosphere. We settled on Boulder Creek, a 25 minute commute up Highway 9 (faster over Graham Hill Road) from Santa Cruz and the University (about 30 minutes if you take the back way to the campus over Empire Grade Road – but the scenery is worth the drive!).

The minute my husband and I stepped across the threshold of this magical cottage, I felt an immediate change come over me … a sense of calm and serenity … a feeling of, "Ah, yes … THIS is where I'm supposed to be! In this place of total beauty!"

From the beautiful, immensely comfortable king size bed, to the original hardwood floors, to the luxurious claw-foot bathtub, to the sterling silver flatware, this is the perfect romantic 'getaway'. And that's not even mentioning the beautiful views from every window, the lovely sounds of the fountain right outside, the sumptuous scents of all of the various flowers.

And this is just the "Magnolia Cottage" … Elsewhere on the property are wonderful sustainable gardens, and all kinds of kindred four-legged animals!

The owner, Tamara, truly has a gift for creating a nurturing, peaceful space, and all who visit will benefit from her sharing that gift.

We hated to leave … and I can't wait to go back again.

Dear Tamara,
Jim and I were very comfortable here and very inspired. You've done a great job with this place! Boulder Creek was just the right size to wander, and having the park forests nearby makes it perfect.
We both enjoyed meeting your and talking with you. Good luck with your next stages!
