Overview

4th Arrondissement Pompidou Le Marais Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This superb studio apartment is on the main street of the Ile St. Louis, on the ground floor looking onto a small courtyard. The apartment is located in a 1750s building and has been freshly renovated with beautiful stone floors throughout. The queen sized bed sleeps two very comfortably and is fitted with Ralph Lauren sheets. From there, you can watch a little late night TV on cable with top quality LCD. WI-FI is also available.

The kitchen and counter space are done in black granite and offers two bar chairs for light dinners and a pleasant area to relax with a glass of wine. Nescafe expresso machine makes excellent expresso and is super easy to use. There is an excellent stove and microwave for cooking. The bathroom features stone tiles from Burgundy, and oversized designer bath towels and bathrobes. The glass bottom sink from Villeroy & Boch is a marvel of design. The shower is like standing in warm summer rain.

This apartment is located on the ground floor with big windows offering a lot of daylight facing the courtyard. As you exit the building, there is a grocery store just in front, a bakery on the right, and a cheese shop on the left. Charming restaurants line the street in either direction, but my favorite is the Alsation bar, which has a magnificent bistro area at the entrance for an aperitif!

Main advantages:

-no walking up stairs (historical monuments = no elevators)

-freshly renovated

-kept super clean

-local owner (Paris-based American)

-payment is made upon arrival

Keywords: ground floor, stone floors, big windows, beautiful bathroom, excellent shower, comfortable bed

About Jeffrey Klein

I'm the Academic Director at a university here in Paris and have been actively engaged in teaching in a variety of other settings in Europe. I'm from the US and have lived in Rome, Lugano, and Paris. I feel drawn to Paris because it has everything that you could ever want. This is a city that finds a way to satisfy so many different needs with (mostly) good common sense.

Jeffrey Klein purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Jeffrey Klein chose 4th Arrondissement Pompidou Le Marais

Being on the Rue St. Louis en l'Ile is the prefect spot in Paris, with everything you could want just at your fingertips! You can find music in the streets at any time of year, and in the summer there's no better place for an evening picnic on the cobblestone riverbanks of the Seine. And a stroll after dinner along the tree-lined quai, with the city lights sparkling all around you, is extraordinarily romantic.

It's probably worth mentioning that only on the Ile St. Louis can you see Paris most famous monuments in one gaze...the Notre Dame church, the Pantheon, the Eiffel Tower, and the Hotel de Ville.

What makes this apartment unique

It's a very relaxing ambience, from the ancient stone walls to the old wooden beams, it induces a sense of calm and well-being. The delicious smell of croissants in the morning is unique to Paris and with the baker's atelier in the little courtyard, the aroma of croissants is a seductive one. It's very important to be on the ground floor because most buildings on the Ile St. Louis don't have elevators. And, I like the fact that the big windows enables lots of light to enter. Guests will also feel pampered by the the contemporary kitchen and bathroom, featuring designer bathrobes and towels.

Chez Klein

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here recently and couldn't have been more satisfied. The small apartment is comfortable and convenient. A fantastic location enables you to walk to many of the famous sites in Paris. Everything is at your fingertips including the metro, bus lines, a grocery shop across the cobblestone street from you, a bakery right next door to get your croissants for breakfast. Chez Klein is a perfect spot from which to base your Paris adventure.

Perfect Location - Cozy Studio

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed here and loved this studio! The studio is exactly as described. We loved the back of the building location -- and had no problems with any noise. The location is so perfect. We loved being in the middle of everything. It was a great spot for exploring Paris (by walking). We also enjoyed a great meal across the street at Mon Vieil Ami. Jeff was great to deal with - and we were met promptly for check in and check out. Our security deposit was refunded shortly after our departure. Highly recommend this little slice of heaven!

A Perfect Month in Paris !

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I have been lucky to have visited Paris several times for a month or more in the past several years. This apartment was our 6th different apartment and was, by far, our favorite ! We are retired teachers and loved that it was completely secure and on the ground floor....as in NO STEPS ! It was our first time staying on Ile St. Louis and the location was magical. Many have called the apartment small, but in Paris, that is relative. We have stayed in apartments that were less than 20 sq. meters....this really is 30. The bed is a real bed, not a futon and was very comfortable. The kitchen has everything we needed....and, for those who love their espressos, a Nespresso machine that worked perfectly. Paula even left us a tube of capsules to get us started. We experienced zero difficulty with noise from the boulangerie and loved having it steps away from us each morning. The owner is wonderful and his wares are fantastic. I could go on and on.....but, I think, my finest endorsement is that we will, if possible, stay in that same apartment for next years month long visit to Paris. This is the first apartment our of 6 that we have wanted to revisit.

best location in Paris

  • 4 of 5
This charming studio is so perfectly located....walk in one direction, you're on the right bank, the other direction, you're on the left bank. And the Isle St. Louis itself is a wonderful place. The apartment is small, but clean and well maintained. The landlord is very helpful. On my last visit, I became ill. He put me in touch with a service that sent a doctor to the apartment in under one hour. I have always found the landlord to be helpful, solicitious and accommodating. Ground floor location is particularly convenient. Recommend highly.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
This apartment is just perfect! It is cozy, comfortable, in the middle to everything, and exactly as represented. The owner, Jeff, and his representative, Paula, we're amazing and extremely helpful. When you walk out the front door of this apartment you have everything you need around you ... a cheese shop, a bakery, a creperie (delicious!), a market, and several delicious restaurants. When we return to Paris (and we will!) we would definitely like to stay here again.

Location trumps issues.

  • 4 of 5
I've been to Paris six times and learned long ago that l'Ile St. Louis is the perfect location. It's in the epicenter of Paris yet surprisingly quiet, a stunning view of Notre Dame is only a block from the apt., metro locations are nearby. Wonderful array of restaurants and shops just outside the apartment. The apartment itself, though small, is sufficient for 1 to 2 people. Since many, if not most, of Paris's buildings that house apartments do not have elevators, it is definitely a plus that this apartment is on the ground floor if you travel as I do...not lightly. It is true that you will smell the delicious, buttery croissants each morning from the bakery that adjoins the courtyard; unfortunately, in the summer when you need the windows open (No A/C), it is also true that this baker will begin slamming doors, pans, tripping the courtyard lights on & off at precisely 4:02 am. It was impossible to sleep once he began his morning routine, so we were forced to shut the windows and outer shutters, and of course the apartment became stuffy and uncomfortably warm as a result. (There is an oscillating fan that provides some relief.) It may have been an isolated event, but we had constant trouble with the internet for the first 2-3 days, then after many reset attempts, it seemed to work better, although we did continue to lose it sporadically. I would be remiss if I did not mention the problem with mice. NONE were seen inside the apartment; however one was inside the building just outside our door by the staircase; on most nights we saw several in the courtyard ...another reason we chose to keep our windows shut in the evenings. This is a problem Paris in general has been faced with for much longer than I've been visiting this beautiful city; a fact that was pointed out by the landlord when I expressed concern about the rodents. I disagree, though, that this was "beyond his control" as he said, and I feel that a competent exterminator could certainly reduce the mice population within the confines of the building. As I stated, this was my 6th visit, and I have never seen mice in any of my apartments or hotels in the past. Although I believe as I mentioned in my review title that "Location Trumps Issues," I'm afraid the mice have run me off. Assuming this is brought under control, then I would highly recommend the apartment, especially if you are not coming in the heat of the summer.

Owner's Response: A new internet connection and modem has been installed yesterday. As for mice, I'm sorry that the guest saw a few in the courtyard. I contacted the homeowners' association and they will arrange for an exterminator to spray in the courtyard.
