'ROCK OF AGES' A HUGE, HISTORIC, LAKEFRONT HOME ON LAKE ERIE.

Marblehead House Rental Photos and Description

13 BR, 13 BA, Sleeps 36

We are so excited about sharing our 'new' but very old home and its' stories with you and other potential guests.

Rock of Ages has been sitting on the shores of Lake Erie since 1861. Built of native, local limestone it is listed on the National Historic Register. There simply is not another comparable home on Lake Erie--it is wonderfully unique, and fun to explore. It is very solid (like a 'Rock') and in great shape, but we have renovated the first floor, opening it all up to panoramic views of the lake and have added a state-of-the-art kitchen and plenty of dining space for 30+ people. We love this new area and are sure you will too!

It is located in the village of Marblehead and is within walking distance of Lakeside and the Marblehead lighthouse.

The lighthouse is a spot of natural beauty and the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes.

We have traveled around the world and this is our favorite place on earth! Friendly, down home people, great entertainment (at Lakeside and the islands), wonderful local history, great boating, Cedar Point, and the waves and the winds of Lake Erie are constantly there. What a place! From our tower room and rooftop patio is one of the best views of the Lake Erie islands in the whole area. Come and see. Rock of Ages has a 120ft. spacious patio overlooking the lake with plenty of furniture for sunbathing, eating or gazing at the lake and watching the boats and ferry to Kelley's island. Of course, you can swim off the flat glacial rocks right in front of the house. Within a short drive is a large sandy beach. We still have the original limestone fossil walkways from when 'The Rock' was built. There is a brand new hot tub overlooking the lake.

As well as the new kitchen and dining room/great room on the first floor, there is a living area with a large screen TV. The first floor also has two half baths. The lower level (the former summer kitchen in the 'old days' ) is a large game room with a pool table, ping-pong table, TV, half bath, and tables and chairs which opens out to the backyard patio with a large grill. Rock of Ages has a large parking area to accommodate big groups. Although, it is wonderful in the summer with the windows open and the lake breezes, we do have air conditioning. Rock of Ages can be used year-round and the lake in all it's glory in the ice and snow is something to behold! It can work very well for business or church groups that time of year. Our rates are for the entire property, not per person as in an inn or B&B.

We are a family, sharing with you our family place, not an impersonal management company; we sincerely want your family or group to have a great time at Rock of Ages. We have finished a major renovation, but Rock of Ages will always be a work in progress and we will be constantly upgrading. Almost everyday, we get new ideas! We are glad to answer any questions via email and calls, we realize it is a big decision you may be making for a bunch of relatives and/or friends and you have lots of people to consider and possibly lots of questions.

I have stayed at Rock of Ages three times with a group of 10 women! It is a wonder place to stay. Large enough for the whole group, yet cozy corners to get away from it all. The kitchen is large and great to work in. The view of the lake from almost all the windows is an added bonus! If the weather is nice, you can walk right up town to all the shops and places to eat. I can not say enough good things about this place!

A Christmas Snowball Fight - Madness!!

This was the second year in a row our family celebrated the Holiday's at Rock of Ages. We found the place to be clean, cozy, and fresh upon our arrival. Believe me when I say the house is stocked very well, an abundance of serving dishes and silverware, spices in the cupboard, dish washing detergent, laundry detergent, you name it, they have it! The separate bedroom that is connected to the back of the home on the main floor, is a dream for the Grandparents to retreat to.
Those guests who could not make it due to 8 inches of snow, missed the madness of a snowball fight on the second night. Twenty-some teenagers and adults engaged in friendly fire. A good time had by all! Thank you Marla!

WOW weekend!

We spent a weekend at Rock of Ages with a group of 25 women, who work together. We have already booked this house again for next year! Your home is spectacular, beautiful, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed. We loved everything about this property. We never felt crowded, and there is plenty of space to be alone or for everyone to be together, both inside and out. Loved the hot tub, swimming in the lake, the views, the antique furnishings, the fully stocked kitchen, the lighthouse, and the shops, and never having to wait for a bathroom or shower!! What a gem this place is. Thank you for sharing it with us, we can't wait for next year.

Celebrating Family and milestone events

This is the third time our family has used the Rock of Ages as a gathering place for special events. Our family travels from all over the country and we could not find a more perfect place to hold our celebrations. We have been there twice over Labor Day and once in March. Each time we've enjoyed the beauty of the seasons and the charm that Rock of Ages has to offer.
The kitchen is amazing and has everything you would need to make the most elegant of meals. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well furnished and very comfortable. There are a number of small children in our family and even in March, there is enough space between the basement and family rooms for them to play and not be under foot.
This past visit was during the special celebration of the reenactment of the War of 1812. There was so much to do in the surrounding area but we never left the house because there is always so much to do just in your own back or should I say, front yard. We had so much fun watching the freighters coming and going as well as playing games that we all bring for the weekend.
We always come away from the weekend anxious to return for the next special event. There is no need to look anyplace else for such a special venue. We LOVE the Rock of Ages and look forward to our next visit. I would recommend Rock of Ages to absolutely anyone who would like a very special place to spend time on Lake Erie or just get away to relax.

A Fantastic House and Thoughtful Owners

The Burch family is large and diverse and finding a location for a reunion was always difficult but when a family member saw this ad, we were sure we had found the perfect place.. the house is just wonderful. We were there a week and found the house welcoming at first and then just like home. The kitchen was more complete than most homes for large groups, and so well stocked with large pans, appliances and even down to spices. The bedrooms are neat, CLEAN, and well thought out and the bathrooms are all of that as well as convenient. It is the only place the Burch reunion has been held that got a standing ovation for a return visit. A big thanks to Marla and Herb and their crew from all the Burch's.

A few miles to Port Clinton for the Jet Express to Put-in-Bay and a few miles to East Harbor State Park. Located between Toledo and Cleveland, 20-30 minutes to Cedar Point. Consider a fall or spring long weekend. We think autumn on Lake Erie is the best! Think about the winter holidays? Do you really want 'all” the kids at your place? Or maybe you're in a condo now and simply can't have 35 people over, but you would like to host a get together. Rock of Ages is here for you and we love seeing families make time for each other and have a 'good' time when they do it! This North Coast of Ohio is within a day's drive of 60% of the USA, making it a very central location for family reunions. One block from Marblehead gift, antique, coffee, and ice cream shops. Other quaint shops within a mile or two. A couple of blocks to ferry to Kelley's island. About a half a mile to Lakeside and a half a mile to Marblehead Lighthouse State Park.

Other Activities: Cedar Point amusement park, Lakeside Chautauqua on Lake Erie, Marblehead lighthouse, Lake Erie islands, boating, jet skiing.
