We were looking for a family trip to take and a friend recommended to my mom, Big Bear Lodge! Hey we had a big group of 7 adults and 2 little kids.....this place looked perfect! My brother and mother made all the arrangements with Bob. I saw the pictures online, saw the distance from Chicago and the photos of the beach nearby......it was a no brainer, "book it brother!" I told my brother after seeing this place. Hopefully the photos weren't deceiving and the place lived up to the website.
June 8th came and we were on our way! We loaded up the trucks and instantly became the "Griswolds" heading on a road trip! Once we arrived, I was impressed! Located on a nice quiet street and yes it is walking distance from the beach (I knew that because I missed the sign to turn on and ended up at the lake, so i knew i went to far!). Upon entering the house, it hits you at once. "wow".....look at the construction! Impressive winding staircase to the left stickes out (and also made for a funny recreation of the Brady Bunch Picture!) the wooden balcony and fireplace ahead and these beautiful "star" windows had the sun blazing in......very cool! The kitchen was very nice, very big...big dining table......the bedrooms were perfect! The bathrooms spacious! The only negative was the size of the "crib" which was a little too small for my niece, but we had to make use of it. Maybe guests should pack their own "pack and play" for young ones. The back enclosed porch was great, the back deck was good to grill out and hang out.....and the garage was huge with the extra fridge to store our beer! Lots of games and bikes for everyone! The front porch was awesome! Perfect to sit on, relax with a nice cold beer or even your morning cup of coffee watching the deer go by! Yes, I witness several deer walk around the neighbors lawns and walk the streets in the morning!! Cool!
The beach was a close enough walk and a real nice beach! We took a ride down to the public beach one day and it didnt feel the same as our private beach! Our private beach was perfect for just relaxing in the sun and getting my tan on! We even road bikes down Lake Shore drive! Fun!
When it came to driving to town, everything is just a few minutes away. Gas stations, The Supermarket (they wanted me to become a bagger there they loved me so much!) to even the popular burger joint!!! Overall, great time, great house, good price, just far enough away! Thanks again Bob!
