For many years I have worked as an artist/sculptor...designing elements for the home. And I have managed property rentals for over 25 years. We spend a few weeks each year enjoying our island retreat and getting recharged.

Dian Weeks purchased this cottage in 1987

We looked for a special location for over 4 years until 1987... when we finally found our perfect island retreat. We built a custom pole house(s) and appointed it with Indonesian/Asian furnishings from our travels and extensive tropical landscaping from local farmers. For years we have shared the guest house with travellers from all over the world...with many rave reviews.

This is a very unique, exclusive area...located about 10 minutes north of Kaneohe, in an area called Waikane which means 'Water of the Gods'. It's private; has a serene country feel embellished with gorgeous tropical vegetation & fruit trees. Being embraced by the Koolau Mountains and enchanting views of Kaneohe Bay...this property is like no other. Great location...10 minutes to Kaneohe town; 20 minutes to Honolulu & Kailua; 40 minutes to the NorthShore. And close to beautiful beaches all along the coast.

this was an exceptional stay for 10 days. the home is beautiful; everything is provided - grill, etc. i grew up in the town not far from it - Kaneohe, so I am familoiar with the surroundings and have friends that live close-by. the bedrooms are not closed by doors, they are open, so this might be more conducive to those companionships wanting to spend time with themselves. the bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs.

Nice place

  • 4 of 5
We like the cottage. Our main disappointment was the fact that the pictures on VRBO gave us the impression that we would have shoreline access/use. As the renter of the house in front made quite clean, the shoreline belongs to the front house renters and not the cottage. Had a plumbing issue in the bathroom and owner handled it right away. Owner was great to work with. Location was good. It rained a lot but we just went to the other side of the island. The bay is this area is not blue....muddy looking, be prepared for that. Stairs to upstairs loft bedrooms are steep. KM

Owner's Response: Thanks, Kathy...for your feedback. The tenants in the main house have now moved out. They had no right to say that you couldn't go down to the shoreline...sorry about that. Had I known, I would of spoken to them.
Thank you again for choosing our cottage...hope you consider coming back some day.
All the Best,
Dian

Delightfully Peaceful Cottage

  • 5 of 5
I can only concur with what many have already said. The cottage is lovely and peaceful, tastefully furnished and well located. Communicating with the ower was pleasant and professional. The almost daily "liquid sunshine" was particularly welcome for someone living in parched California. It even showered when the stars were shining!
Local rooster was a bit late for wakeup but welcome nonetheless. Beautiful gardens with singing birds, well stocked kitchen and very comfortable bed.
A lovely and peaceful spot from which to explore gorgeous Oahu. Recommend highly.

Secluded Cottage Away From It All

  • 5 of 5
This is exactly as advertised. Our family of four had a beautiful week and completly enjoyed our stay at this cottage. The kitchen is well stocked with plates, pans, utensils, and various condiments. There's a great BBQ on the deck. We always ate breakfast and dinner at the house, and often prepared food to take with us on our excursions. The grocery store is a few minutes up the road and moderately priced. There's also a movie theatre and a McDonalds in the same shopping strip, for those so inclined.

The home is easily accessed from the main highway. But it's surprisingly secluded, and secured with a gate. Waikiki is 30 minutes over the mountain. The North end beaches are about 30 minutes the other way. And there's plenty of beaches, waterfalls, and food close by.

It has direct access to the ocean, although the water is murky at this spot and not really swimable. There are great beaches very close, just a couple minutes up the road. The ocean view, the birds, the banana trees, and the wooden cottage all make for a truly tropical setting. You won't be disappointed.

Dian had the place squeeky clean when we arrived. We never saw Dian, and never had a need to call her. In fact, we never saw anyone. What a great vacation, huh.

Kaneohe is a beautiful respite from the hustle of Waikiki. Fair warning, however, the tropical rain forest is kept green by--you guessed it--rain. I happen to like the tropical rain; it keeps thing cool and green. Don't worry, the rain is short lived and manageable, but there nonetheless. About the rain, it's typically on one side of the island or the other. So a short drive some where will usually bring dry weather.

Decidely Hawaiian Getaway

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is quietly nestled in at gated 4 acre lot with manicured gardens, and a view of the see. The cottage shares the lot with a permanent resident in another home. But the trees maintain privacy between the two homes. The neighboring properties are upscale residents, and we were completely comfortable with the security of the location.

I have to mention at the time of year we visited, it rained nearly everyday. Not constantly, but a little drizzle, a soft shower, then some respite of sunshine. The beautiful part of the rain is it keeps everything cool, it's very therapeutic, and the foliage is always green. It's more a function of the Windward side of the island than this particular home. Nonetheless, when the sun is shining, and you can stroll up to the waterfall or watch the sunrise over Chinaman's Hat, it will make all the drizzle worthwhile.

The two permanent beds were comfy with clean linen and light blankets. There's plenty of fans to cool things off at night. And they have a roll-away bed (single), though noone in our group used the roll-away.

Great kitchen. No dishwasher, but you'll get over it. Plenty of hot water for dishes, showering, or laundry. The washer and dryer, by the way, is one of the best parts.

The location is easy to get to, right off the highway. Its a straight 35 min to Waikiki and about the same to the Northshore. But you'll probably want to relax on the deck, listen to the birds, and take a nap. Why do you need to go anywhere? Just chill at Dian's cottage.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Jeff!
Appreciate your feedback. So glad to hear that you enjoyed the cottage & surrounding area...and it's fine amenities!
And this time of year it can rain a bit more, but as you said...more dizzily...most during middle of the night. And short distance away...can find sunshine.
Hope you come again to retreat to this hidden hide away.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
Just what we were looking for! Clean, spacious, quiet and away from the tourist. The city can be noisy and depleting, but staying here really rejuvenates your spirit. It was clean, tranquil and comfortable with no disturbances. After a long day in the city it was truly pleasurable to get back to the cottage and just relax, maybe take a stroll down to the shoreline.

The kitchen stocked well with dishes, pots, pans etc. Bathroom had plenty of towels and good water pressure. Washer and dryer a life saver.

Re-awakened our love as soul partners especially to understand our roles as husband and wife. True love is created within yourself "I AM"

Thank you Dian for quickly responded to us and for the wonderful cottage we enjoyed as a retreat...can't wait to come again! Mahalo
