''Charming.'' ''What a delight!'' ''A complete relief after some others.'' ''Great taste!'' ''The best kept secret on island.'' Not even the locals know that this building used to be a firehouse and has a designer-decorated, quiet, residential 2 floor condo right in the middle of great restaurants, shopping and museums. Instead of a fire pole, you now have an atrium with light flooding through both floors, antiques and Audubon prints, a library with high-speed internet, open spaces for cooking, playing with kids, entertaining or reading a book.
The unit is centrally air conditioned with a commercial gas stove in the kitchen made for fabulous feasts. Showers are newly tiled with tumbled marble and all is meticulously maintained. At the top of the entrance staircase, you'll see the first floor of the two floor unit. The open kitchen and dining room are in front of you, the library on your left, and the living room straight ahead. The guest room and a full bath are to the right of the dining room. The entire second floor of the unit (top floor of the building) is the master bedroom and bathroom suite. Spacious closets and terry bath robes await you.
You can pretend that you're at work from your hi-speed computer and wi-fi office in the morning, then walk to the beaches and go across the street for a wonderful meal at a gourmet restaurant in the late afternoon. Come relax and refresh at ''Firehouse.''

I love Nantucket! Where else in the world can you find an amazing combination of beaches, history, great restaurants, sailing, fishing, museums and fun? I first fell in love with the island on a Fourth of July when we were the ONLY people on a perfect beach that we found by wandering down a sandy lane. My place is in downtown, so you don't even need a car. Cross the street for world class food, a glass of wine, or the world's best hamburger. Down the street is the Whaling Museum, shops, docks with boats you can wander by while eating a Juice Bar ice cream cone, and beaches. I love the sun in 'Firehouse,' poring down the atrium where the fire pole used to be. The master suite on the top floor is decadent with a fluffy comforter on the king bed, a sitting area, a newly marbled bath, and generous storage space. The twin bedroom on the main floor is perfect for another couple or for kids. Last weekend, we biked out to an old fishing village ('Sconset, circa 1674), then walked down an oyster shell path next to the Atlantic Ocean admiring the roses, the old cottages, the view, and inhaling the fresh, salt air. What a beautiful day and island. Come visit!
The description above explains why I love Nantucket and why I particularly enjoy being downtown. It's so convenient to everything! I also love that no one else on the island even knows that this building used to be a firehouse, so it's a secret delight for the occupants.
There are only 3 condos in this property: two are retail on the first floor, and mine is the only residential unit. That means that the clothing stores close at 5:00pm, are quiet neighbors, and that you'll have the whole building to yourself with great privacy. It's a relaxing place with lots of choices.
