We stayed 1 week in the fantastic apartment Casa Colomba. The proprietors, Marie and Lorenzo, had bought the tower and recently renovated it so everything is new.

When we arrived, we were received by Marie. They live downstairs, which is very practical if you have any question or problem.

Everything was super clean which is a important point for us! The apartment has many appliances that make your stay better : a toaster, espresso café machine, washing machine.

There is wireless internet !

And a loggia with beautiful views were we had breakfast and dinner.

Marie and Lorenzo are the perfect hosts, always very helpful and at the same time giving you privacy.

The weak points would be: the very steep stair, no dishwasher and the TV did not have many foreign channels (but we did not watch TV during our stay, so we did not care).

The apartment is ideally placed to visit Pisa and Lucca (about 25 min. by car). Other places of Tuscany need 1-2 hour drive (San Gimignano, Siena)

I would recommend Casa Colomba to my friends, we loved it ! In fact, you could spend the holidays in the apartment without going outside

Marie & Lorenzo moved to Tuscany almost 10 years ago, Lorenzo is from Turin in the north of Italy and Marie is British, although we met in England it wasn’t too long before we moved to Italy, first in the north not far from Lorenzo’s home and then to the beautiful region of Tuscany.

Marie Kidd purchased this apartment in 2006

We decided to buy in the village of Vicopisano due to its beautiful surroundings and unique location. The village although relatively undiscovered offers everything we need in the way of local amenities, transport links, and a beautiful surrounding country side where we can enjoy cycling, walking and trekking. We believe we have it all here just 30 minutes drive to the Mediterranean beaches, golf courses and thermal spas, and just 20 minutes away from the fascinating city of Pisa with its famous monuments, shops, museums and of course the international airport.

Casa Colomba and Vicopisano offers us a chance to relax, unwind, and rejuvenate in a characteristic environment away from the more beaten tourist tracks of Tuscany. Vicopisano is a friendly place and we enjoy the hospitality of the locals as well as the traditional festivals, eating al fresco and dancing under the stars. Our property is just a short stroll from the village square the life and soul of the village with its bars, café’s and Saturday morning market.

The perfect Tuscan getaway!

  • 5 of 5
Case Colomba was an absolute treat in Tuscany. The apartment is charming, comfortable, and beautifully decorated and the town of Vicopisano is a gem! We loved the delicious restaurants in walking distance and the fascinating historic tour of the tower right down the street. We enjoyed amazing day trips to all the cities and villages near by with the joy of returning to our peaceful apartment in Vicopisano. We especially enjoyed our fabulous hosts Marie and Lorenzo and all their helpful advice. Our favorites were the walking tour of Pisa, Olive Oil tasting, wine tasting, ceramics, and day trips to all the near by villages, shops, and restaurants. Thank you so much Marie and Lorenzo for sharing your beautiful home, helping with reservations, and very thoughtful advice and day trip itineraries. We could not have been more pleased with our visit to Casa Colomba and hope to return soon.

We want to return!

  • 5 of 5
We didn't have time to read the reviews in the room, as we were so busy exploring this beautiful part of Italy...But I am sure everyone has mentioned what a fantastic apartment this is! We loved this place because of the views we got as we opened our shuttered windows each morning....I could do a wash, hang the clothes outside the windows to dry (just like my neighbors and in the movies!) then take off for the day to explore the Tower (don't miss the guided tour), Pisa (Marie has printed up a wonderful walking tour of Pisa) and Florence! We cooked in the immaculate kitchen, enjoyed the comfy bed and the decor and furnishings made the apartment our favorite ever!! We absolutely LOVED this "home away from home"...it truly was the best! ...And, thanks Marie and Lorenzo for you help and hospitality. Marie, you were such a great resource! Oh, I almost forgot,....we took an awesome cooking class...the highlight of my husband's trip, as it was his birthday..... Not to be missed as one of the Memorable Experiences Marie can
provide for visitors. Thank you!!

Our favourite place to stay

  • 5 of 5
We went back to Casa Columba for our second visit and enjoyed it even more than the first time. The apartment is lovely and clean and the kitchen is well-equiped if you want to cook. The whole village is very welcoming and Marie is so friendly and organized! We arrived during the Vicopisano flower show and she reserved a table for us at a great location in the square so that we could enjoy the festivities and entertainment. She also arranged for other English speaking people to join us which made the evening even more enjoyable. Marie also arranged for us to visit a farm for an olive oil tasting - she has done her homework and has a wealth of information on Tuscany and on the places, experiences and people that will make your stay memorable. I cannot wait to come back and visit again.

Quiet, Romantic, Beautiful, Friendly!

  • 5 of 5
Marie and Lorenzo were fantastico. The apartment was clean, comfortable. well equipped and in a great location with lots of great touches to make it like home. The view is incredible. The main bed was very comfortable but high off the floor (stool provided). Anything you need or ask, Marie and Lorenzo will do their best to provide. The history and character of the apartment was special and very well restored. There are lots of stairs (30) I think I saw someone say but it didn't bother us at all (we are mid fifties). Vicopasano is what we were looking for, after a week in Roma. A real "Italian" town not a tourist town, very beautiful, quiet, the people we met (mostly bar/cafe, grocer and pizzeria), were very friendly and helpful, as well the residents were happy to say a quick buonasera and didn't seem to mind us exploring and photographing their beautiful village. Although a little hard to find, Vicopasano is well worth the patience, effort and the cost of the GPS (don't drive in Italy without one). While there we visited the "Organic olive oil and winery" with Marie which we thoroughly enjoyed. We explored Buti, Lucca, Pisa, and Marina de Pisa and loved them all. There is not alot of shopping or restaurants in the village but they have all the basics we needed and you are close to Pisa which has everything. We had a very special night at the corner cafe, under the stars, they had live music a "real Italian" couple, singer and guitarist, who were wonderful. It was a little hard to get the crowd to dance but they loved singing. It was a highlight of out trip.
Ciao

'La dolce vita' in Vicopisano - fabulous!

'La dolce vita' in Vicopisano - fabulous!
  • 5 of 5
I stayed in Casa Colomba just before Christmas in 2013 and had a terrific time. The apartment is extremely comfortable and cosy in December. I loved climbing up into the fairytale 'princess and the pea' bed and slept blissfully snuggled up. The bathroom was a joy to use with beautiful towels and the kitchen was extremely well-equipped - both were sparkling and spotlessly clean. The apartment is furnished and decorated in superb taste. I just wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the apartment.
Vicopisano is totally unspoiled and very authentic. The Brunelleschi tower is a gem - Marie personally took me along on a tour hosted by a professor of history and it was tremendous fun climbing up ancient steps and then ladders getting higher and higher to the top, stopping on one level of the tower to try on Medieval soldiers' helmets and armour and to actually hold original Medieval weapons. Amazing!
December is the perfect time to explore Pisa and Florence without the crowds. The galleries, museums and sights were so easy to access, no queues for the Uffizi museum or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Both Pisa and Florence had wonderful Christmas markets brimming with lovely things to buy - I bought 3 exquisite watercolours of the Tuscan countryside from the artist outside the Duomo which in the summer would have cost 25 Euros each, but I got them for just 10 Euros each as it was 'off season'.
Pisa is not nearly as commercial as Florence. Marie recommended me to take her walking tour which was fascinating and I took her advice and went to the recommended pizzeria and had the best pizza I've ever had. It was great to discover the Andy Warhol exhibition in Pisa at the 'Blue' museum.
I had delicious meals at the restaurants Marie recommended - and I more than took advantage of the Prosecco sold from nearby delicatessen Il Botte Gaio - which is only 2 Euros a bottle!
Marie and Lorenzo were extremely kind and hospitable, even inviting me along with them to their favourite restaurant in the next village of Buti - had a great evening there, they were delightful company and it was lovely to meet the restaurant owner Francesco who was incredibly warm and welcoming.
I had the best time. Marie and Lorenzo supplied me with great advice for getting the best out of my trip to Tuscany. I absolutely recommend Casa Colomba to anyone who wants to experience the real authentic Tuscany in the best accommodation in a charming and genuine village.

AUTHENTIC TUSCAN VILLAGE

Vicopisano is the perfect location for witnessing a typical Tuscan village. This is a place where you can still see the locals tending their olive trees and vegetable gardens as well as witnessing the daily washing hanging between trees and apartment windows.

This is a place to sip a cappuccino with the locals, dine alfresco at an authentic Osteria and enjoy the village events and festivals throughout the summer months.

CLOSE TO PISA, LUCCA & FLORENCE

Vicopisano is Ideally situated off the more beaten tourist tracks of Tuscany but yet perfectly located to visit the art and culture cities of Pisa, Lucca and Florence just to name a few of the must see places in this beautiful region of Tuscany.

VICOPISANO STEEPED IN HISTORY- VISIT A MEDIEVAL FOTRESS

The Medieval village of Vicopisano is steeped in history and today’s visitors can witness many medieval towers and tower houses as well as a medieval masterpiece designed by the renaissance engineer Filippo Brunelleschi . Brunelleschi was responsible for fortifying the whole village back in the middle ages and today visitors can wander the cobbled lanes of the historic centre and enjoy a guided tour of the impressive Medieval fortress and watch tower .

VIST ORGANIC OLIVE FARM & OLIVE PRESS

Visitors can also enjoy tours of a local organic olive farm where we can organize a private visit of the olive groves and olive press where you can taste the award winning olive oil along with a very good red wine and other organic products produced at the farm. We can also organize rustic lunches, BBQ’s and cooking lessons at the farm.

VISIT AN ARTISAN CERAMICS WORKSHOP

Not too far away at the edge of the village you can visit an artisan at work in his ceramic workshops. We can organize a memorable morning where you can visit the workshop of one of the very last remaining potters in the area. See the potter at the wheel witness how the pieces are decorated and glazed and understand the history behind the ceramics of Vicopisano an artisan trade which has been present in the area since the middle ages.
