We are a family of four from Tennessee with a large extended family who like gathering to enjoy the peace and privacy of Rumbling Bald Resort, hiking, swimming and nature watching and just getting away. We enjoy cozy private times and well as big family gatherings in our pretty Lake Lure home.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2000
We have owned our home for over 10 years and we love the beauty and peace of Western NC. It is so beautiful at any time of year. We drive past more developed, commercial mountain communities to get away to the pristine, unmatched beauty of Lake Lure. If you have not visited this gorgeous area, we believe you will be pleasantly surprised. There is plenty to do for all ages and interests as well as room to spread out wings and relax.
We love the complete privacy we enjoy, while only steps away from from the beach, pools, tennis courts, marina and golf course. Wildlife and outdoor adventures such as hiking Chimney Rock or nature trails, horseback riding, swimming and shopping are abundant. Where else can you get it all in one pristine, beautiful spot?
This is a great location to spend a vacation and agree with everything the prior reviews stated except the coffee pot (may be a new one) quickly brewed coffee. We under-utilized a lot of the space, but what we did use was wonderful! The den with fireplace is so-o-o cozy for downtime. All of us watched Dirty Dancing and two other movies in the den and utilized the TV in the main area for news. Our two teens LOVED the basement! They enjoyed the seclusion, ability to spread out and laundry room doubling as a private dressing area. With their ipads and iphones in use, they wanted me to remove the TV from the end table. The walking exercise circuit on the property was a fun group activity every morning, and the massage therapists at the Wellness Center are excellent. Paddle boarding was easy to do and we found a sandy, secluded beach area to take a break before we returned. The life size checkerboard was a favorite, too. We enjoyed climbing the stairs at Chimney Rock and walking to the beautiful falls at the end of Hickory Nut trail. The pizza and wings at the on-site Legends restaurant are very good. We found lots of little coffee shops in Chimney Rock as well as a hidden gem—Tia B’s Mexican restaurant (closed Wednesdays). The airport and Asheville are only an hour away. Part of our family drove from MI and the Garmin GPS took us the wrong way in the NC mountains a few times which was very frustrating and once we got our bearings, we ended up taking 74/240 to Asheville downtown (5 times) and 74/64/26 to and from the airport (2 times). They are maybe not the fastest routes, but definitely the easiest—with beautiful scenery. Fairlake provided a great base for a memorable vacation.
We had a family vacation here, the kids and adults loved it! The only complaints were, the coffee pot took forever to brew. It may just need to be cleaned. The decks outside were very messy with leaves and sticks all over it. However the cleanliness inside was spotless, the outdoor decks were awful! We had to sweep it off ourselves. I suggest Diane, that you follow up on the outdoor care of your home.I would and probably will, rent this home again. The easy drive to the amenities are great! The home is very roomy, great for a blend of family units, who want to spend time together, but not be to crowded. Once you pay for your home rental, buy food, you do not have to spend anymore money to have a great vacation. The owner is a delight to work with, answering all my questions quickly. We had a blast!
Our family of 5 (three kids ages 10, 8 and 5) stayed at Fairlake for a week. It was a great place for us to spread out and a great base to enjoy Rumbling Bald and the Hickory Nut Canyon/Lake Lure area. We loaded up our tubes and headed to the pool and beach at the Rumbling Bald resort every morning, hiked Chimney Rock, walked the short Donald Ross trail, went into dinner in Asheville one night and met up with some friends and tubed the Broad River. The kids loved the kids camps offered by Rumbling Bald, too.
The house was comfortable, tidy and contained what we needed. My only suggestion would be to bring twin mattress covers and twin fitted sheets if you are planning to fully use the basement 4 bed bunkroom. Those beds didn't hold my hospital corners very well ;). Also, some personal throw blankets would be helpful to bring for the living room as the wooded area keeps this house cool even in the summer.
We had a great time. Everything we needed and then some were at the house. Can't wait for the next trip
We enjoyed an excellent weekend here during August of 2011. The home is very well maintained, clean inside and out, and a very short walk to all the amenities that Rumbling Bald offers. From the indoor and outdoor pools, tennis and basketball courts, wet and dry saunas, weightroom, to the golf course and walking trails, everything is very well maintained and geared toward a completely enjoyable experience. This house has an open feeling but is designed so that if you need privacy it isn't far away. Step from one room to another and it feels like you're on a weekend retreat all by yourself. The downstairs level is a great place for kids to have their own space while remaining close by. The decks on the front and back afford excellent views of the mountains and the lake. We rented canoes from the office and thoroughly enjoyed and afternoon trip on the lake behind the house. My only regret is I left my rod and reels at home. If you want to get out and see the sights, Chimney Rock, Hendersonville, Bat Cave, and others are a short drive away. You won't regret spending you're time here.
Don't miss Chimney Rock Village and State Park, scenic Lake Lure Village, the Carl Sandburg home, Biltmore Mansion, the Western NC Nature Center and the historic and charming towns Tryon, Black Mountain, Hendersonville and Saluda, as well as the beautiful and artsy Asheville, NC. Our gorgeous, scenic area is the setting of many movies including Dirty Dancing and Last Of The Mohicans.
