We are Las Vegas locals but keep a second home in Elkridge. We enjoy spending many weekends with friends and family at our mountain getaway.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2010
We own a private cabin in this same subdivision and love it so much. When this one came available we just couldn't pass it up!
One of my favorite things is to watch the deer at night. Late afternoon about an hour before it gets dark the deer come in to graze in the meadow. It is the most beautiful sight.
I and my family recently stayed in this vacation rental June 26 thru July 3 , 2014. I was extremely impressed the minute I walked in the door. There were three family units staying for a week in this 4 bedroom unit and the layout was excellent for a family gathering. The place was clean. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and basic stuff like paper towels and cleaners. This is important as the location is more remote. The appliances and TVs worked. The linens and towels were well stocked and of high quality. There was a game room downstairs with a nice pool table. This place became the true base for what developed into a fantastic, memorable week.
You walk out onto the balcony and there is the Dixie National Forest at your back door. That made for great evening hikes.
There is no AC but we didn't need it. You are at 10,800 ft elevation.
This rental is ideally located for national park vacationers. It is within easy driving distance of Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce. Cedar Breaks is real near and an overlooked gem. It's also a rental nestled in Dixie National Forest where you can relax at the unit without having to go anywhere. I advise extreme care driving at evening/night as there are deer everywhere.
There was a downside finding the place the night we arrived--after dark. The 39 mile marker off Rt 14 was not there and there was no street sign or identifiable street sign or marker to indicate where to turn off Rt 14. This really needs to be fixed. But like all challenges of vacations the nocturnal search for the place ended up being a memorable experience. So try not to arrive after dark!
There is a small store 2 miles away at the junction of Rt 14 & 89 and you can get gas there also. Otherwise Duck Creek Village is down the road with a few more services. That place is ATV heaven if you want to do ATVs. I do recommend Pinewood Restaurant, which is off Rt 14 towards Duck Creek.
In summary this is an upscale 5 star rental unit, reasonably priced, and in a great location for the national park system. It was as advertised and an excellent value. Based upon the way the place is set up it would also make a good fall/ winter retreat.
We had a wonderful time staying in this cabin. It had everything we needed and more. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised, it smelled nice and was spotless! I would recommend this cabin to anyone that wants to stay in a very comfortable home. I plan on coming back next year with my family!
The pros of this home certainly outweigh any cons, which are minimal. The setting in the mountain canyon is very nice and provides places for walking, hiking and running in the neighborhood. The floor plan works for multiple couples/families and has a nice open common living area/kitchen. The location is great situated evenly between Zion and Bryce. All the accommodations are top notch; only two cons there. One being the master air bed which is adjustable for hardness, but impossible to roll over on without waking your mate, my wife in this case; or me, when she had to roll or get up. Its unbelievably noisy like an old antique frame bed though its obviously not. Second shortfall for a larger group (6+) the dining room table just won't accommodate any more. Bathrooms and closet space are great; pool room downstairs is very nice, as is outside fire pit and horseshoes. Fianlly the back deck is a great place to relax with a drink, lay in the hammock, and/or BBQ. All in all, its good value for the price, just needs a couple of tweeks - the bed being the major issue since you use it a lot during your stay.
This home was exactly as described. All of the basics are provided and the pool table was an added bonus after a long day of hiking and exploring. This home is very well appointed and decorated. Property was very well maintained and clean. The owner was very responsive in all my dealings. The only problem...and it wasn't really a problem...the bed in the master bedroom was hard as a rock...until we discovered on day 2 that it was a Select Comfort bed and it had been set to 100! Slept much better after adjusting it down. Enjoyed sunset, fire pit and star gazing in the evening as well as the wildlife. Zion and Bryce are a must, but Cedar Breaks is truely a hidden gem. Don't miss the Alpine Pond trail. Also enjoyed the zip line and ATV's which was about 15 mintues away.
Our family travelled from MN to Utah to explore the national parks. This cabin was great! There was lots of space, the bedrooms, and bathrooms were perfect! The family room was inviting and comfortable! We found all cooking utensils we needed in the well supplied kitchen. We loved the front porch for morning coffee and the back porch for enjoying the sunset! Lisa was extremely helpful and friendly, answering all of our questions and making sure we had what we needed! The cabin is close to Zion and Bryce National Parks, as well as the national monuments. We hiked every day, were amazed at the beauty of the area, and came home to a comfortable, cozy retreat every evening! The directions from Las Vegas were accurate. We came down highway 89 and approached the cabin from the east (instead of from the west). We mistakenly turned in at the first Elk Ridge entrance and were confused. We reread the directions (from Las Vegas), went back out to highway 14, and with the help of the mile markers, found the cabin! (It was really the only glitch we encountered while stay at this fabulous home!) We loved staying at the cabin, truly enjoyed the beauty of the mountains, and would definitely stay here again!
The pictures truly do not do this property justice, it is spectacular. The home was clean and comfortable with stunning views from the back deck and all over the entire area. The location was perfect, close to both Bryce and Zion. Having explored the area we appreciated that this home was close to the highway without being too close (the back dirt roads go on forever and it was nice to have access to nearby highway)
ONE NOTE: We did not realize the king bed is a sleep number and found it to be rock hard. When my daughter arrived on the 4th night and pointed it out, the bed was then quite comfortable. I think it should be communicated to renters as we missed out on four nights of comfort due to our lack of observation!
I would advise visitors to STOCK UP on food as there is virtually no grocery store anywhere close by. There are also very few restaurants. We drove back to Cedar City for groceries mid trip. The kitchen has limited pots and pans, enough to get by, but I would't plan a lot of cooking as I found I could not find all I needed such as big sauté/fry pan with lid. Can opener did not work, etc. Their are plenty of dishes and pots and pans for simple meals. However, with the lack of restaurants we felt we needed to cook a few nights.
I would not recommend Susie's Home Cooking (or similar name) it was terrible. Mama Mia's Pizza was good. Our favorite was Pine Wood Resort restaurant. The chef visited with us, as did all the staff and we felt very welcome. Plus the food was great, I enjoyed the Salmon and my husband and daughter loved the BBQ. Overall during our stay, I felt I was constantly in need of fruits and veggies though!!
We did a lot of hiking and recommend hiking up the Narrows in Zion. Allow a full day if you can. It was one of my lifetime favorite things I have ever done!!!! We also rented the 4 seat Razor from Pinewood and had a blast! (get a map!!!!!!!)
Sad the trip is over, we LOVED being there!
This area has some of the most beautiful motorcycle/quad trails I have ever seen. Bring your ATV and enjoy hundreds of miles of designated trails or rent one in Duck Creek Village. Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Brian Head Ski Resort, and much more located between 30 and 60 minutes from this incredible cabin.
