About Alarka Creek Mountain Cabin

Growing up in Florida, my family loved our vacations to the mountains of North Carolina. Once I married,my husband and kids continued the tradition and have made more wonderful memories of our own. We vacationed in many places in North Carolina until we visited a friend in Bryson City and fell in love with it. We bought the perfect piece of property with a creek and camped on it for a few years until we built our cabin. Just walking along the creek listening and enjoying nature is a gift. We enjoy having so many things to do in one area. We love the small town feel and yet so close to Cherokee, Smokey Mountains, Blue Ridge parkway, Asheville, Nantahala George, too many to list. We are sure you will love it as much as we do.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Alice - I just wanted to let you know how much my family and I enjoyed our trip to your cabin. It was a great trip in many respects. We loved the privacy and space of both the cabin itself and the property in general. My little boy could have just sat by the on-property creek all day!

We had a blast over at Deep Creek (tubing), explored Bryson City, and made several treks to the heart of the national park itself. As you know, it's a bit of a drive to the heart of the park, BUT, when we left to go home after spending the day in Asheville/seeing Biltmore, we went through the Gatlinburg side of the park, and I sure was glad we stayed where we did. It was a drive from where we were to the park, but a beautiful and peaceful one w/o a lot of the hokey tourist stuff (except for Cherokee...but that museum is worth a stop).

Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to create some great memories in a beautiful part of the country!

Wonderful Property

  • 4 of 5
As advertised beautiful property, long driveway along a mountain creek then up the driveway to a beautiful cabin in the trees. Hiking trail around the property through the mountain forest. Now the down side, the beds are as advertised two double beds and an assortment of beds up stairs. There were only two good beds up stairs, the other bed needs a real mattress to replace the futon. The grill outside was full of ash from a lot of usage. We had to clean out the fire pit to use it and the yard has misc junk in it, old propane cylinders, scaffolding braces. Only two chairs for the fire pit area , there were two more chairs but they were broken. The dryer needs service it took hours to dry a load of clothes(even though its the owners power bill) its very annoying going up and down the stairs to check. A couple of us were being attacked by biting bugs in our sleep. Driveway needs to be leveled ( very large potholes) near the road. We all left a day early so we could get some rest on a good bed. I will take the hit, I knew they had double beds but the kicker is the rooms will accommodate queen beds. Couch isn't very comfortable, also the dinning room table only had five chairs, a lot of standing and eating. This cabin is set up for two couples who want to sleep in their own beds. All things considered I really did love the area(we have stayed/camped in Bryson a lot) and the property is beautiful which almost made up for the other things wrong. I would recommend using this property just read the list and pack accordingly.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us and submitting your review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions.
We listen to our guest and always have their comfort and enjoyment come first.
We're so excited to be in the process of refurnishing our beautiful cabin including new queen beds, new leather couch and a big screen television.
Our caretaker takes pride in keeping our beautiful twenty-three acres of forests and creek in excellent condition for our guest to enjoy.
Everyone loves sitting around the campfire and we provide not only chairs but also logs for the kids to sit on. Don't forget to use bug spray while enjoying the campfire or hiking in the woods or your guaranteed to have bug bites.

Just what we needed

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful vacation @ this cabin; it was exactly as described & all photos were accurate. The home was immaculate upon our arrival. The setting is so serene; the cabin is hidden from the road, and there is a beautiful creek that runs along the driveway. Our teenaged niece loved the sleeping loft; I kind of wanted to stay up there, too. The directions given by the owner were excellent, and it was easy to locate by GPS, also. We had no problem accessing the property in our car. It's very convenient to Bryson City and Cherokee, and less congested areas of the National Park. We went white water rafting for the first time, and we're hooked! Loved this place; can't remember when I've been more relaxed. We will be back.

We had a great stay at this cabin .If you want piece and quiet this is it . Everything was as described .The kitchen had everything one would need ,could use a few more towels in the baths , cabin was very clean and looked like new . I would suggest you arrive before dark as it could be hard to find in the dark . The directions were very good tho . The grocery store Ingles has it all, very nice . A visit to Cork & Beans is a must for coffee, a glass of wine or a nice dinner . Thanks for the memories !!!!!!!!

Refreshing Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5
This cabin that sits along the Alarka Creek was everything we expected and more. It was my wife, 2 children (3 and 1), and I who enjoyed this wonderful stay. We arrived at 3:00 p.m. and the home was in excellent condition. My wife and I unpacked and the 3 year old collected rocks and explored the yard. She was surprised by a local dog (I must say that I was a little startled) who turned out to be very friendly. They played together and explored the area each day we were there.

We only ate out for lunch and our favorite spot was Cork and Bean in Bryson City. The crepes were amazing! They were so good that we forgot to even try the coffee until the end of our last meal. Having spent time in Tacoma, WA we love good coffee and Cork and Bean definitely hit the spot.

The roads getting to the cabin were all paved and easy to navigate. GPS told us exactly where to go. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Bryson City from the cabin. On day one we forgot lighter fluid but we improvised and got the coals burning.

The upstairs worked at the perfect play room for our girls. While they played Foosball, blocks, and hide and seek my wife and I enjoyed sweet fellowship around a blazing fire in the huge fire place. Once the girls went to bed we enjoyed the stars through the large windows, watched movies, and sipped wine.

Alice was a real help. She answered all of our questions so that we were able to plan our trip. We were very thankful for her hospitality and willingness to let us use the beautiful home.

After our stay we decided to make this a yearly tradition and we can't wait to return to the mountains of North Carolina.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
We've only been home 4 days from our stay here and all we can talk about is when can we return. We were looking for peace and quiet and solitude and also a place safe for our 5 and 2 year olds, and this fit the bill in every way and then some!
The house was immaculate upon our arrival, clean and extremely well stocked with everything you would need. The first drive up Alarka Road was a little daunting, being used to wide and straight roads, but a beautiful drive that we enjoyed more each time. Upon arrival at the cabin, crossing the bridge and driving along the creek up the drive, instantly put our minds and bodies at peace. It is quiet and isolated, with only the sounds of the creek flowing and the crickets chirping, with an abundance of stars at night. We ate every dinner outside on the picnic table and then made fires in the fire pit and it felt as if we had the mountain to ourselves. Not having cable tv was a blessing in hindsight although the Internet worked perfectly, so we weren't completely cut off. We did not have cell service with ATT but did with Verizon, for whatever reason.
We didn't eat out anywhere, but we did frequent the Ingles grocery in Bryson City, which has everything you would need. One place we did frequent and highly recommend is Mountain Perks coffee shop in Bryson City. The owners are amazing and the food and coffee are something you'd expect in Portland or Seattle. We did make short trips to Cherokee, Waynesville and the Natanhala Outdoor Center, all of which were easy to get to.
Alice was excellent in communicating with us, and to sum up, we hope she keeps the house, because we definitely plan on returning and recommending this cabin to anyone we know interested in the most peaceful, relaxing and private getaway we've ever stayed at.
