Enchanting honeymoon getaway!

Katerade7 Davis, CA, USA
Review Submitted: April 30, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
This adorable cabin is the perfect spot for a true romantic getaway. It is tucked back off of the street in a beautiful foresty area and the minute you walk in the door, you know youre not going to want to leave. When we arrived, the owner met us there and provided so many ideas for us on where to eat, site see, etc. And then she let us be for the rest of the weekend. Not only is the cabin amazing, but the town of Cambria is sooo quaint. We walked around downtown, did some wine tasting, smoked cigars, and treated ourselves to a nice dinner. Everything is so clean and fresh, it reminded us of Disneyland. And of course the beach is right there and we went on a beautiful hike along the San Simeon coast. The elephant seals were captivating. Anyway, we cant say enough good things about this cabin and town. In fact, we are so fond of it that we are planning to return for our one year anniversary in July and are very much looking forward to it!!

penny wise and a pound foolish...

Presto Thousand Oaks, CA
Review Submitted: February 2, 2010 Date of Stay: January 2010
My lovely wife asked me not to write this but I want the next renters to be aware of what I thought of the "lovely cabin" in the woods. Let me express I have been going to Cambria for over thirty years and needless to say have stayed at many different places. Now about the cabin. First, it is off the beaten path and does have it's charm and is quaint but there is sooo much you could do to it that would make it worth the price (with very little money) to stay at the cabin. The driveway is dirt which is okay but not in the rain, also there is a dirt path to the front door. When it rains, which it did, the driveway is slick and the dirt path becomes a mud field. Your shoes will be covered with mud. The mat that is outside the front door to wipe your feet has more mud on it then the trail. It would help if you would put down stepping stones to the front door and a new outside mat. The front yard is overgrown and needs to be cut back so that it doesn't look like a jungle (I think I saw a tiger). When you open the front door you should have a mat so you don't track mud into the house. The cabin is very charming and bright but too much so in the bedroom. I don't mind looking at nature but I don't want it looking back at me. Some kind of window coverings would be nice in the bdrm so you can have some privacy and sleep in late if you want too. A table of some sort in the bdrm would also be nice to set your suitcase on. You need to figure out how to make a shower in the bathroom instead of just a tub. I am way too big to crouch like I am praying to Mecca, also it would be nice to have a small table to set your bathroom items on. In the living room you need a table behind the couch, a coffee table and a rug in front of the couch. The "CD" player is a boom box, you can do better. I didn't really care about the TV, but I didn't know they still had those kind around. Now the kitchen; a cheap microwave would be nice, again a rug by the sink, a table by the window to set items, a silverware tray and decent pots and pans would add to it's charm. I know I'm "beating you guys up" but it would take very little work and money to make this "diamond in the rough" a true diamond. I know I won't be invited back-Thank you for that.
Ohh, you can walk to the beach and Cambria but you can also walk to Los Angeles (bring hiking boots and water).
Owner's Response: The Cabin is a rustic restored antique cabin, ½ mile (or 3 ½ blocks) above the ocean in Cambria. It is not modern. It takes you back in time. We are located near the forest and you may see deer, wild turkey, fox, quail, doves, etc. California just had a huge winter rain and wind storm and that created some mud. The Cabin has wood floors throughout. We are carpet and rug free. This is good for people with allergies and for those of you who enjoy wood floors. Our décor is understated. The Cabin is best enjoyed by guests looking for a break from modern life complexity - to enjoy a bit of simplicity.

simple beauty that renews

Review Submitted: January 23, 2010 Date of Stay: January 2010
Each year my sister, mother and I search for the perfect place for us to spend time together. We've found some beautiful spaces but this one was by far the ideal place for us. The cabin has a certain energy about it that invites calmness and reflection. Because of its simplicity, one is able to focus instead on the beauty within and without. We hiked in the woods in the rain and also walked the beach in the same day. it was a gift. I highly recommend this cabin to any couple or small gathering of friends/family.

Be aware

Hervey Solana Beach
Review Submitted: January 8, 2010 Date of Stay: December 2009
Lacks kitchen basics such as pot holder, dish drain, and cooking utensils such as ladel. No outside seating area. Less than desirable bathing area.
Owner's Response: We have added a few more kitchen basics as per request. Our director chairs can be taken outside into the front yard to sit in the sun and enjoy the birds and beautiful weather.
The bathroom has a whirlpool bathtub with showering hose only. No stand up shower.

A Perfect Getaway

Gretagirl city
Review Submitted: October 7, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Our family of five just spent a week in this lovely little cabin. Our 2 little boys yelled with delight when we pulled into the driveway, "we're staying in a lincoln log cabin!" The cabin is set back from the street, has large trees in front and these things add to the secluded, cozy feeling of the cabin.
Inside everything was perfectly clean and well maintained. It was small, but did not feel cramped or crowded. Rather, it was light and airy making for a peaceful feeling the minute we walked in the door. And there were five of us! We used the fireplace every night, and while it was a bit smokey, it really didn't bother us. The down comforters on the beds kept us warm each night and the bed was quite comfortable. It was really just right for relaxing and getting away from it all.
Walking the neighborhood, we saw deer and California quail. We hiked in the nearby forest and walked down the long hill to the beach. It was a long walk back up, but we had to work off all the good food we had been eating, so we didn't mind.
In all, I'd say the cabin was a perfect combination of being secluded in the woods while still being minutes from the beach. I'd recommend it to anyone!
