Needs to be updated or at least some TLC.

This was our first visit to the Charleston area and came down for the wedding of some friends who are getting married tonight on Folly Beach. I will agree that the owner has been very nice to work with, but I disagree with a few comments found in the previous reviews.
it was very enjoyable standing with my 8 and 10 year daughters on the upstairs balcony watching the dolphins surface as they swam in the causeway. It is also nice being close to the Folly Beach stores and restaurants. Unfortunately, that is the most positive stuff I have to say.
The master bed ranks as one of top five worst mattresses I've slept on. Tonight is our last night here and, after two nights of tossing and turning, I plan on sleeping on the hump in the middle to take advantage of what little cushion remains. We weren't really looking for a 4 or 5 star property since we were really only going to be here to sleep, but when sleeping is the focus, an uncomfortable bed really stands out. From its appearance, I'm guessing that there hasn't been any real updates to the property since it was built. As to basic maintenance, there are several light bulbs that are burned out. Not one light fixture in the place has all the lights working. Also, watch your step on the stairs up to the bedrooms. There has obviously been some sort of repair work to the stairs, as there are a few that are without the underlying pad. It kind of throws you off until you figure out which steps are affected. Also, bring your own toilet paper. They have the public toilet variety that you need to bunch up about a yard's length for it to be effective. The towels supplied are a hodgepodge of what can best be described as Goodwill or yard sale bargains. And make sure you bring your own beach towels. On a positive note, it was nice to have a washer and drier with detergent. The kitchen is decent, but we really didn't take advantage of anything other than the refrigerator. My recommendation to the owner is to get a new mattress for the master bedroom, buy a nice set of matching towels at Sam's Club, Walmart of Costco, replace the burnt out light bulbs and hire someone to come in and update a little. Having tissues and hand soap available as well sure would be nice! All of these "improvements" would make the nightly rate easier to stomach. Oh, and having the rest of the fire detectors re-attached might be a good idea too.
Owner's Response: I will address the towels first. There were are least four sets of matching towels two sets of
burgancy which were purchased new from Belk Dept. Store. Two sets of gray towels which
were purchased from the Navy Exchange new. These were purchased this year. Surely
that was enough for four people to use. The toilet tissues were Marcal purchased from the Charleston Air Force Base for 6.99 not cheap. The king size mattress is a very expensive
double cushion one which no one has ever complained about but you. It is a soft one. Since
the property was built in 1982 and I bought it in 2001. These are the improvement I have
made. New carpet in the entrance and on both balconies, new tile in kitchen and bath, remodeled the half bath downstairs, installed all new appliances in kitchen, installed a new
stair case going up to the upstairs at $1.000 plus. My son went in and replaced all the light
bulbs on April 1st. There is a light in the living area that when we replaced the light bulb it still
did not work. However there was another light in the living room. By the way I do not furnish
bar soap that is up to the guests to bring the soap. This is not a motel. All of the smoke detectors are hooked up except the one by the kitchen before someone was cooking and it
went off but that is right you never did any cooking. The check out time was suppose to be
10:00am when I went there with my guests at 11:00am Rick Noland was just checking out.
Then he came back looking for his daughter's ring while I was cleaning. I finally found his
daughter's ring and waited for him to come get it at about 2:00pm. The minute I saw Rick
and his wife which I had to wait on them to check in which was 6:00pm when they finally
arrived which there is a 2:00pm arrival. Somehow after dealing with people for over 11 years
now. I turned down about 6 people because this was Easter weekend after he made his
reservation. I noticed his wife as the problem more than him but I guess he wrote this bad
review instead of talking to me when he picked up his daughter's ring. Oh I do not furnish
beach towels either.
