Be certain to bring lots of groceries because you won't want to leave for your entire stay at Heron Point. Sitting in an Adirondack chair on the spacious deck, you'll watch the lobster boats arrive with their day's catch, and perhaps make the mile drive to the town lobster wharf for your dinner!
We hope you won't be using our high-speed wireless internet, or watching the cable television in the cozy den, but rather sitting in the living room, just gazing out the many, many windows at the 660 feet of shoreline just a hundred feet from where you're sitting.
Catching a glimpse of the land across Maple Juice Cove, you'll see the hillside where 'Christina's World' was painted by Andrew Wyeth, and then, with your interest stirred, take the two-minute drive to Olson House where the artist created many of his paintings, and is now buried. The shoreline wraps around two sides of Heron Point, one providing easy access to the ocean at mid-tide for kayaking, or sunning on long flat rocks with a quick dip into the sheltered cove. Should you ever become tired of sitting in the magnificent beauty that surrounds you, play some croquet or bocce ball on the spacious lawn, and stop for lunch on the picnic table at The Point, a secluded corner of Heron Point with water on both sides!
If you don't want to nap on that perchance rainy afternoon, you can take a drive into Rockland, just 20 minutes away from galleries, shopping, the five-star Primo Restaurant or, as featured in the May 2010 issue of 'Down East' magazine, Lily Bistro. The famous Farnsworth Museum and lots of unique shopping fill the hours ending with a cappuccino at Rock City Cafe. Having chosen wisely to vacation in the Mid-coast, you're just 30 minutes from the tourist havens of Camden, Damariscotta and Boothbay, all providing days of interesting walks, antique shops and anything your heart desires. But we still recommend bringing enough food and wine to last for your entire stay. Because you might not leave.

We love the remote feel of living on a long peninsula, yet easily within reach of shops, galleries and restaurants in the bustling towns of Rockland, Camden and Damariscotta. No traffic sounds, just gulls, geese and abundant wildlife. There is a general store less than 3 miles from the property in case you are running low on a critical staple...limes, perhaps?
Wonderful light all day long. The sun rises over the water to the east and by mid-afternoon the water-side deck is in partial shade. Two mammouth pines toward the water provide some shade at any time of the day for those seeking it. The only sounds are those of nature, except for the occasional lobster boat.
What a perfect vacation this has been. Your home is not only beautifully decorated but so well appointed that we felt perfectly at home. We decided that, of all the places we ventured this week, the view from the deck might be the best for relaxing & enjoying the scenery...it is hard to leave here!
