|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Be certain to bring lots of groceries because you won't want to leave for your entire stay at Heron Point. Sitting in an Adirondack chair on the spacious deck, you'll watch the lobster boats arrive with their day's catch, and perhaps make the mile drive to the town lobster wharf for your dinner!
We hope you won't be using our high-speed wireless internet, or watching the cable television in the cozy den, but rather sitting in the living room, just gazing out the many, many windows at the 660 feet of shoreline just a hundred feet from where you're sitting.
Catching a glimpse of the land across Maple Juice Cove, you'll see the hillside where 'Christina's World' was painted by Andrew Wyeth, and then, with your interest stirred, take the two-minute drive to Olson House where the artist created many of his paintings, and is now buried. The shoreline wraps around two sides of Heron Point, one providing easy access to the ocean at mid-tide for kayaking, or sunning on long flat rocks with a quick dip into the sheltered cove. Should you ever become tired of sitting in the magnificent beauty that surrounds you, play some croquet or bocce ball on the spacious lawn, and stop for lunch on the picnic table at The Point, a secluded corner of Heron Point with water on both sides!
If you don't want to nap on that perchance rainy afternoon, you can take a drive into Rockland, just 20 minutes away from galleries, shopping, the five-star Primo Restaurant or, as featured in the May 2010 issue of 'Down East' magazine, Lily Bistro. The famous Farnsworth Museum and lots of unique shopping fill the hours ending with a cappuccino at Rock City Cafe. Having chosen wisely to vacation in the Mid-coast, you're just 30 minutes from the tourist havens of Camden, Damariscotta and Boothbay, all providing days of interesting walks, antique shops and anything your heart desires. But we still recommend bringing enough food and wine to last for your entire stay. Because you might not leave.

We love the remote feel of living on a long peninsula, yet easily within reach of shops, galleries and restaurants in the bustling towns of Rockland, Camden and Damariscotta. No traffic sounds, just gulls, geese and abundant wildlife. There is a general store less than 3 miles from the property in case you are running low on a critical staple...limes, perhaps?
Wonderful light all day long. The sun rises over the water to the east and by mid-afternoon the water-side deck is in partial shade. Two mammouth pines toward the water provide some shade at any time of the day for those seeking it. The only sounds are those of nature, except for the occasional lobster boat.
What a perfect vacation this has been. Your home is not only beautifully decorated but so well appointed that we felt perfectly at home. We decided that, of all the places we ventured this week, the view from the deck might be the best for relaxing & enjoying the scenery...it is hard to leave here!
this house and wrap-around waterfront property was the perfect, peaceful, true 10-day getaway that we all needed. our adult children joined us, and time and worries from the real world quickly dissolved into days of reading, exploring, photography and fresh summer feasts cooked and enjoyed outside and inside. and countless croquet and badminton matches on the ridiculously picturesque and expansive lawn overlooking maple juice cove. highly recommended sanctuary for anyone in need of an infusion of marine air, electric star and meteor shows, and the rejuvenating powers of mid-coast maine. and yes, plenty of shopping, food, antique and exploring options when needed! enjoy this little piece of heaven on earth...
We spent a week in this well designed and appointed, spacious 3 bedroom, 3 bath property and highly recommend this to other couples, families and friends who are seeking a quiet getaway, in nature but within driving distance to the quaint towns of the Maine coastline. Families with kids will probably want to rent kayaks, bikes and bring some at-home entertainment (music, games, etc.). They do have a nice HD tv with a surround sound stereo system. The photos really don't provide you with a good sense of how light-filled, open and expansive the property is. The house is quiet/remote which was fine for us and there are farm stands and towns with shopping within a 15-25 minute, very scenic drive away. Camden and Rockland are both close and excellent day trips. Don't miss Primo in Rockland, Dorman's ice cream in Thomaston and Waterman's Lobster! Hiking in the Mt. Battie area is a must. The kitchen is very well equipped and had everything we needed. The owners were incredibly helpful and made it very easy to settle in. My only complaint is that we didn't have more than a week!
My husband and I just returned from two weeks at this house. It is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, well-kept, clean, and the owners are wonderful people. The photos are accurate but don't even capture the full expanse of the water and site of the house. It is quite private but not isolated. It was absolutely clean and well cared-for as this is the primary residence of the folks who rent it over the summer. I would absolutely recommend this house. One should know, however, that it is not close to any town. Rockland (where we went nearly every day) is about 20-25 minutes away. Rockland is fabulous, full of artists, interesting shops and galleries, great walks, and a very down to earth town. Primo restaurant is great and you should make reservations well in advance. Waterman Beach lobster roll is the best we've ever had and the towns surrounding this home are wonderful, but, again , not right around the bend.
We couldn't recommend this rental more highly.
