Overview

Harstine Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2.25 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

JUST ADDED: WI-FI INTERNET SERVICE!

Enjoy a pampered restorative island getaway without spending your weekend waiting in ferry lines! Whether a winter retreat (Scrabble and reading, making cozy dinners) or summer cookouts and late nights looking at stars on the deck, this place has it all! Less than 2 hours from Seattle, this new home on drive-on Harstene Island will feel like you've 'left it all behind.'

Our nickname for this custom-built private retreat is “the Treehouse,” because in addition to panoramic views of sparkling Peale Passage and uninhabited Squaxin Island, mature Douglas Firs, Madronas and Alders surround the home with lush greenery. Abundant fir-trimmed windows flood the rooms with natural light and provide views of Puget Sound and forest from every room. A large wrap-around deck and hammock close to the water are great outdoor spaces for listening to birds, gathering together, or enjoying solitude. For those who enjoy wildlife, you may be treated to deer, seals, bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, and a large variety of water and shore birds.

Other features of this stunning home and surrounding 1+ acre land include:

• Unobstructed west-facing views of sunsets; at night, moonlight on the water and a sky full of stars

• Gourmet kitchen with new stainless steel appliances

• 4 + bedrooms and 2 ¼ baths

• A Jotul cast iron gas stove in the living room for warmth and ambiance

• A “playroom” upstairs

• Oak floors throughout

• Stocked with classic board games and enjoyable reads for children and adults alike (High chair and Pack-n-Play also available in basement storage)

The house was designed to be a romantic getaway as well as a place for family or two-couple gatherings. The layout is as follows:

Main floor:

Open floor plan includes kitchen, dining room, and living room (with cathedral ceiling) and two bedrooms (1 Queen bed with attached ¾ bath and 2 twin beds with adjacent full bathroom). Both bedrooms have water views and French doors opening up to the deck.

Upstairs:

Walk into a light-filled reading loft with comfortable down-filled sofa (and views of the sound!), & flexible bedroom options (1 King bed in an ample room featuring a skylight), 1 large TV room with queen air mattress option & powder room) and 1 kid-sized playroom with 1 twin bed and 1 mattress on floor).

Amenities close by include:

• Two State Parks with walking trails to the beach (one features old growth forest and a beach full of live sand dollars and shellfish; the other a marina and picnic areas)

• Harstine Island farmer’s market on Saturdays from 10-12 (Memorial day through September)

• Olympic Bakery and Deli (a must-stop treat on your way to or from the island, featuring NW wines and wine tasting, fresh pies, and the best ice cream we’ve ever had)

• Nearby towns of Allyn and Shelton offer restaurants, grocery shopping, bookstores, and many other amenities (including kayak rental and Kenny’s Chainsaw School of Carving for those up to exploring a new talent)

Keywords: Waterfront Retreat, Puget Sound views

About The Owner

The owners are two Seattle families.

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Harstine Island

Our dream was to build a nearby waterfront island getaway that provided easy access (waiting in ferry lines is not fun with a toddler!). Hartstine Island is all that we had hoped for and more.

What makes this house unique

Amenities close by include: • Two State Parks with walking trails to the water (one features old growth forest and a beach full of live sand dollars and shellfish; the other a marina and picnic areas) • Harstene Island farmer’s market on Saturdays from 10-12 (Memorial day through September) • Olympic Bakery and Deli (a must-stop treat on your way to or from the island, featuring NW wines and wine tasting, fresh pies, and the best ice cream we’ve ever had) • Nearby towns of Allyn and Shelton offer restaurants, grocery shopping, bookstores, and many other amenities (including kayak rental and Kenny’s Chainsaw School of Carving for those up to exploring a new talent).

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing weekend. The weather on Saturday was magnificent - it is hard to believe it is only mid-March. Andy enjoyed a long bike ride while I read, soaked up some sun, and took pictures. We also got to enjoy a Husky basketball victory while taking in some local culture at the Spencer Lake Bar. It was just the get-away we needed. It is so relaxing to be in such a beautiful setting with no responsibilities. Thank you!

I can see why they call it the "Treehouse."

My girlfriend and I spend the weekend (February 15-17) at this property and even though the weather was rainy, windy, and cold, we were completely cozy and content thanks to the gas stove and ample heaters built into every room. I have to say I was surprised by how beautiful the house and view were. Although the photos are okay, the real thing was quite impressive. The view of the water, framed by the madrona, fir, and alder trees was amazing and several couches made a perfect place to read, nap, and just get away from it all. Top notch appliances, utensils and cookware, and unflappable wifi despite the remote location and stormy weather made for a great place to stream House of Cards. All in all, a perfect weekend!

Wonderful place to relax and while close to the city it felt like I was worlds away. I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get away for a weekend.

Even in Snow, Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5
My family was looking for an easy weekend of relaxing - at the last minute. Luckily, the 'Tree House' was available and it was the best weekend we've had in a long time. The house was even better than we'd hoped -- absolutely clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated, and cozy. We missed out on the great summer sunsets, but we did catch the first snow of the season while relaxing in front of the gas stove and watching huge flakes fall in front of the great big windows. It was great. Our 3 1/2 yo. son loved the kids' room and my wife and I enjoyed having a real kitchen to work with (*excellent* gas range!). We hiked the nearby Hartine Island State Park and stayed cozy in this beautiful home. Bottom line: we had a great time and loved the owners' flexibility in making arrangements at the last minute. Highly recommend it!

Wonderful girls' weekend

Wonderful girls' weekend

This house was perfect for our semi annual college girlfiriends' weekend. The layout was fantastic. There were enough rooms and baths for everyone to be comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and the floor plan made cooking, eating, relaxing and catching up very easy and fun. The living room was a great place to sit and enjoy the view and the warmth of the gas stove. Even with the rain, we got a few beach walks in. We would have loved to have a campfire in the fire pit, but the weather didn't cooperate. Next time. Thanks for making this house so welcoming and comfortable.

Dream house

  • 5 of 5
It's our second time at this house which I absolutely love. This time we went hiking on the state park and found so many tidal creatures I've never seen before - the kids loved it. The view from the living room is stunning and the pictures on this listing do not do it justice. I also appreciate all the dvds, board games, books, etc. The house is very well equipped, bathroom towels and all very nice amenities. Especially nice are the skylights in upstairs bedrooms and the lovely quilt in upstairs master bedroom.

The place is just the right mix of quaint and luxurious. We felt pampered but still like we were on an adventure. Already planning our next trip back!

Peaceful Weekend Escape!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I went to Harstine Island with some friends for a weekend in November and it was great! The weather, as is often the case in winter in Washington, was overcast. We took full advantage of the great kitchen and enjoyed warm evenings chatting on the couch and chairs around the fire! The island is private and sparsely populated and we loved seeing the deer! The home is beautiful and the setting is completely relaxing. Summer or winter, this is an awesome place to visit!
