Long Island is a tranquil 400 year old fishing community known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and rocky coast. A wonderful escape from the rest of the world.
Some island vacation ideas: Pick some wild flowers. Picnic on the beach. Play a little tennis or basketball. Fish off the dock or jump off the dock with the rest of the island 'kids'. Do a little bird watching. Walk quietly through the island woods trails and look for deer and fox. Bike to one end of the island for a spectacular sunset and the next morning, to the other end, for a sunrise reflecting off hundreds of brightly colored lobster pots. Cook some lobsters from the island lobster pound and grill some steaks on the 12 by 20 foot 3rd floor deck. Rock and read on the covered 1st floor farmer's porch.
The ferry terminal is situated in historic Portland allowing day-trippers to walk around the famous Old Port area where you will find a multitude of eclectic restaurants, shops, and recreational activities – cinemas, The Portland Museum of Art, The Children's Museum, the Portland Observatory, the Longfellow House, the Victoria Mansion. A longer walk or cab ride brings you to Hadlock Field and the Portland SeaDogs (AA Red Sox affiliate) baseball games. Check out local papers for island and mainland summer festivals, theater productions and outdoor concerts.
The daily ferry schedule allows enough time for exploring much of Maine and NH, including LL Bean in Freeport, the lakes region, and the White Mountains.
The island house is a 6 year old 3 story structure with bedrooms and baths on the 1st and 2nd floors and the main living area on the 3rd floor.
The island has 2 grocery stores, a B&B that offers fine dining by reservations only, a cafe, and a library with wireless access. There's even a Community Center with children activities and occasionally art and crafts shows and fairs.
There's no safer place and the natives are friendly, so remember to wave.

Our family had been coming to Long Island for summer vacations for over 20 years. It had been a long-time dream to own a place on the island that we could come to year-round and now we do!
