Overview

Marathon House Rental Photos and Description

4,200sq.ft.Secluded 4BR/4BA 528 Foot of deep waterfront dockage,Kayak to Beach

Private wide waterfront home. 4,200 square foot with banquet hall, seats 14. Three central air conditioners, the house is so big. Party room with unique Bar embedded with sand dollars, a real $100 bill that only kids can find, sometimes drunken adults; watch out for the 8 piranhas. Game table, big screen TVs

A cannon guards the direct channel to the Atlantic. Please bring 2 pound balls and powder with you. Fed Ex will not deliver. I used the last of it on a boat that I sunk within view of the house. Luke's Law, if a boat passes the home does not wave to my guests or is not playing Jimmy Buffet music, you have permission to fire the cannon on them. Examine the remains of the boat I sunk with use of my free kayaks. Rental boats can be delivered to my 528' of seawall. Cut in boat slip for dockage. Cornhole Game(bring your own stickers,I can't pick a team. Park 3 trucks and Trailers. Pirate parties on request. Have someone kidnapped.

There is only 52 weeks a year for 52 lucky families.

Fishing from our docks is always an exciting surprise... tarpon, barracuda, nurse shark, sting rays; don't touch my pet lobsters at the seawall. Close to mediocre Golf courses. Swim with the dolphins.

Go to Keys Fisheries for a Lobster Rueben sandwich. It's so big, buy one for 2 people.

Next go to Captain Pips for a Fried Key Lime pie, buy 2 for one person or there will be a fight for the other persons pie.

About Patricia Ripley

I'm on my zayak out near Gilligans Island, (couple of miles away) looking for the downed Malaysia Boeing 777. Come help me look!

In 2001 was on my sailboat in the process of buying an incredible home overlooking the Sea of Abaco when an aerial photo of CannonPoint showed up on my laptop. I started to worry about maintaining the Abaco property having to boat to the mainland for parts. Marathon had just put in a Home Depot so I bought CannonPoint sight unseen. I'm addicted to kayaking and the Keys are my favorite place in the World.

Patricia Ripley purchased this house in 2001

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 12 spent the holiday season at Cannon Point Fortress and loved every second of it. From the yard, to the views off the point and from the house, to the amenities provided, it made for a perfect vacation spot. The house was big enough to where everyone had enough space to relax and enjoy themselves, yet spend time together at the same time. The "Love Shack" was a nice additional room to the property and was very comfortable. Paradise Patty made sure that we made the most out of our stay and kept everything running and in working order. We could not even notice that she was living on the same property at the same time we were staying at the house - very respectful of our privacy, as were we of hers. The huge yard was a bonus and the amount of seawall provided some excellent space to fish off of. Everything was in working order and well maintained including the pool, hot tub, and kayaks. The physical location of the house was also far enough off of the main road to where no traffic could be heard which made for some very peaceful nights. We even had the joy being able to swim with a manatee in the canal on the last day of our stay. Most certainly a great spot to vacation and get away! This property will definitely remain on our list of re-visits in the future and is definitely a recommended spot for larger groups with kids of any age.

Cleverly marketed to maximize profits.

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at Cannon Point (two couples) for 1 week in June 2014. We chose this location based on the description about all the fish that had been caught off the dock, right in front of the house. It also had all the amenities we were looking for: waterfront, kayaks, pool, and hot tub, and we found the description on the HomeAway page very entertaining. My overall impression can be summed up with the following statement, “ Cleverly marketed, space maximized, and corners cut, where necessary, to earn the most profit”. With that said below are some specific observations and examples. The outside property was nice. The pool and hot tub were beautiful and exactly as expected and pictured. However, under the carport were three grills, two of which I don’t think worked. It looked like they had replaced the grill several times but didn’t bother removing the old ones. Also, beside the converted garage (“The love shack”), were a lawnmower and a number of old propane tanks. There were also at least 10 garbage cans (for yard waste or I’m not sure what) lined up along the fence. Overall the carport/driveway area looked very cluttered. When I’m on vacation I don’t want to look at other peoples clutter, and found these eyesores annoying. Additionally, the owner was in fact in residence while we were there, living in a small outbuilding connected to the house that said “Employee’s only”. We only saw them a few times, while we were there, once when we were in the pool (and thought we were alone), and on the morning of our departure at 8 am, when they decided to start mowing the lawn (which badly needed it), and were walking around the backyard two hours before the 10 am check-out time. Both times felt intrusive and like our privacy had been violated. The inside of the house looked far nicer in the photos then in reality. The leather chairs didn’t recline, and the TV remotes didn’t work. Furthermore, the floors were not very clean (if I’d had a mop I would have mopped them myself), with dirt under the cabinets and behind the garbage cans. In addition, the numerous sliding glass doors didn’t really lock and there was really no way to secure the house when we weren’t there, however since the owners are onsite, maybe this is irrelevant. For the price we paid to rent this house, I would have expected more attention-to-detail from the owners.

Owner's Response: You are correct, the breezeway does look cluttered with 2 gas grills and one charcoal plus the extra filled propane tanks for large parties. Saturday I am having 2 grills and tanks donated to the homeless shelter, also the beach chairs/toys get donated, no one seems to use them. I do have even more than 10 garbage cans, the 3 blue ones are for recycling, which I notice that you did not do. It's OK, it's not a law. If we have time on Saturdays we sort it ourselves. All the windows look out on the waterfront, but I agree it's not nice to drive by a line of garbage cans. The house is on 2 lots, the cans are 6' from the street where we drag them. We live in Grassy Key, but we check on the property most every day, on my way to the gym. Pool/spa people show up on Tuesday morning 8am. I try and be there and clean filters or touch ups after they leave. I have nudists clubs that have booked for years and never complained about their privacy. Saturday, I am putting up orchid hut screening attached to the pool fence, mainly for diverting landscape debris blowing into the pool, but it's also more privacy. I've never seen it done before but I'm always thinking of ideas to pimp up the place. I do not allow the lawn to be cut any other day but Saturdays. I spent $19,000 tearing out the sharp St Augustine and replacing it with a new hybrid Zoysia, thick and tall, perfect for bare feet. Two lots of landscaping maintenance takes more than 5 hours, hence 8am startup. The theater seats are locked because kids got caught in the mechanism. They do not recline but they are so comfortable, I bought matching hassocks for your feet. I haven't found anything more comfortable, but I'm always looking. You had some valid critique and I am addressing it. Paradise Patty, Protecting tourists from Pirate invasions since 1989

vacation of a lifetime

  • 5 of 5

my family and friends were blown away by the house!! the pictures do not do the property justice. there were 12 adults and 2 kids and we never felt crowded. the pool and spa were used everyday. we rented a boat, which is a MUST with this location, we were out in the ocean within 5 mins!!! the dock and seawall were amazing. everyone who attended could not stop talking about the vacation and are planning to make this a yearly family vacation!! thanks Patty for a great place and great time!!!

Owner's Response: I know when your double birthdays are, so I have penciled you in for next year. Most everyone books the week after new Years, so you need to confirm then. Meantime, I expect someone to memorize every drink on that pack of playing cards so you will have a designated bartender. Only 52 weeks on 52 drink cards to learn a new profession. Paradise Patty

Amazing property

  • 5 of 5

I do not know where to start. This place is just amazing. The dock space is vast we rented a 30' boat and had plenty of choices to dock it. We chose the cut in protected dock. There are at least 8 kayaks to go out on the kids used the fishing type and caught a lot of fish from them. We spent a lot of time in the pool as it was 85degrees every day. The inside of the house is huge plenty of room for everyone to spread out. There are 2very large living rooms with large screen TV in each We had 13 of us ranging from 7 to 60 there are things for everyone. The manatees came up to the dock almost every morning. The kids caught more fish at the dock than 6 of us caught on a very expensive run and gun hump trip. They caught a 4' nurse shark a blue fish that we filleted right at the docks fillet station. They also caught a lot of grunts and snapper. Thank you very much patty for a great week. We will be back!

Clean, Very spacious, private and easy access with Boat

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. Paradise Patty was very accomodating, we mentioned (on the 1st day) there were no rock glasses (for Manhattans) and she brought some right over. The house was clean, spacious kitchen main room area (plenty of room to spreadout). Main dining room table sat 10 without having to use the counter from the center island. 3 of the 4 bedrooms have attached bathrooms (4th bedroom had it's own bathroom, but not within the room). Minor repairs are needed, but anything we pointed out to Patty she addressed quickly. The deck area is protected from the wind, so that was a great place to sit and relax or enjoy the hot tub. Lots of towels provided, plus plenty of cleaning supplies, paper towels, etc (all provided). Plenty of parking, good washer / dryer, 2 large refridgerators in kitchen, small deep freeze in carport area. We would definately go back. Great location, reasonable price and very easy to deal directly with Patty.

A scenic one hour drive and the most memorable sunset ever at Mallory Square with the circus performers. Free Kayaks Fishing, fishing, fishing. Anything that swims in the Atlantic swims past this house. As a matter of fact, the fish swim circles around this property as we are a bridge connected island. Come have your photo put on my wall with an iguana nestled on your shoulder. These cold blooded creatures love the heat of your body.
