My family has been renting this home for many years. It is a cute and comfortable cottage. The views of the lake and the sunset are tremendous! The privacy is a wonderful vacation away from the big city. The beach is large and the children can play on the beach for hours. Ms Hannelore (Owner)is a sweet lady whom we see driving her golf cart every day. South Haven and Saugatuck are "must sees". We will continue to come back for as long as the owners will rent this cottage.
The cottage was very much as described. Very small but had most of what you needed. I would have loved having a washer/dryer. Being on the beach goes hand in hand with wanting to rinse out things. And hard to get things dry on the line when you're on the big lake. The gazebo was perfect! The beach was perfect! We used and enjoyed the tennis court. Unfortunately, the basketball set up is not really usable for any 'real basketball". I had some hardcore basketballers with us that were disappointed about that. Overall WONDERFUL! Thank you to the Owners!!!!
Loved the Cottage in the Glenn!! The property, the lake, the privacy and the house were all AMAZING!! Myself and five of my friends find a house on lake Michigan every year and haven't found one to return to. We will be returning next year!!
I stayed at the cottage with 4 girlfriends from law school. We had a lovely time. The cottage was clean, and the kitchen well-stocked with utensils and dishes. My favorite part of the property is the screened-in gazebo that sits at the edge of the bluff overlooking the lake. A perfect place in the evening to watch the sunset. The beach was wonderful -- not crowded, clean sand and water, nice sand bar to wade out to. Prospective renters should note the stairs down to the beach, and the layout of the bedrooms. (Have to walk through the bedroom with bunk beds to get to one of the bedrooms with the queen bed.) Cottage in the Glenn is a lovely choice for an affordable getaway weekend, and booking through homeway.com and dealing with owner Cindy was a breeze. Would definitely stay again.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at the cottage! The pictures honestly don't do it justice. The cottage, the grassy land, the gazebo, the beach, and the view all looked amazing from the moment we got there. The cottage is a little smaller than expected but it didn't really matter all that much because we spent most of the time outdoors! Being able to make a bonfire on the beach was also really great!
We're four friends in our mid-20's and we had a great vacation and made wonderful memories. It was an amazing place to relax, get away, reflect, and bond!
Some cons: Be aware there's no WiFi AND no cell phone service (we all had different cell phone providers - no luck), the stairs are kind of tricky, the beds are a bit hard, and there's no light in the gazebo. These are all small things so none of this is nearly enough to take off a full star but we can't do half stars, otherwise 4.5/5 stars.
Recommended for those who want to simply relax and get away. If you're looking for fun and exciting attractions (or need WiFi to do work), this may not be the place for you unless you're OK with driving into town (which also offered a lot - we went to South Haven and walked around, ate, and went to the pier).
Would definitely recommend to a friend!
My mom and I have spent a week at "Cottage in the Glenn" for the past few summers. I feel like it is our special get-away. The cottage is in a secluded area for privacy, a nice big green yard which includes a gazebo which is awesome and a staircase that goes down to the beach. I especially enjoy watching the sun set over Lake Michigan, it's a beautiful view. The cottage is comfortable and inviting. The property is well maintained and the owners are very friendly people. There are many restaurants to choose from and activities to take part in depending on if you go south to South Haven or north to Saugatuck. "Cottage in the Glenn" is pretty much in the middle of those two towns. I highly recommend staying here whether for relaxation, special time with friends and family or the beach experience. My mom and I look forward to this special time in a special place every year!
Glenn is a quaint 4 corner town called 'The Pancake Town'. On Dec 7 1937 a heavy snowstorm hit Glenn with snow measuring 14 -30 inches deep in many places After 48 hours when the wind finally subsided the local people opened their doors and ventured out into a winter wonderland with drifts as high as ten feet in many places.
This was many years before the interstate highway was constructed. U.S. 31 (Blue Star Highway) was, at that time, the only main highway on this side of the state and it passed right through Glenn. In the wake of the storm 100 cars and 60 trucks were stalled in the snow. Over 200 motorist found themselves marooned in Glenn.
Glenn, always known for its hospitable nature and community spirit did not hesitate in opening up homes and businesses to accomodate the stranded motorists. 'Pancakes, without sausage' became the daily special for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We still have the 'Pancake Breakfast' in Glenn to this day on special dates.
Other Activities: The Cottage in the Glenn is located in between South Haven and Saugatuck-Douglas. You have your choice of many fine dinig restaurants, wineries, antique shops, art galleries, theaters and shopping. Enjoy an evenings walk along the boat docks after dinner in Saugatuck and South Haven. Fennville is just a short drive away where you can go to the famous 'Crane Orchard' for lunch or pick in season fruit. Salt of the Earth restaurant in Fennville is another great restaurant. Michigan has many festivals such as the National Blue Berry Fest, Tulip Fest, the Maritime Tall Ships sailing, Venetian Night and waterfront Film Festivals.
Don't forget to visit Sherman Dairy in South Haven for the best ice cream cone yet! Their scoops of ice cream are the largest I've ever had!
In Glenn, visit Earls Farm Market or Dee's Farm for fresh fruit and vegetables.
Southwest Michigan is great!
