The listing was accurate and the photos reflected the house well. The property was exceptionally well cared for and maintained. The kitchen was well equipped and well kept. The owners themselves greated us and showed us how everything worked. They clearly care for the house. The best "welcome book" ever! Photos, instructions, tourist ideas, restaurants....everything in the book to make you feel at home. Tom's Diner is highly recommeded but was closed for vacations...so sad. But Tom's is recommeded by Rick Steves' Travel Guide and he gave us great bus instructions to get to this location from train station. We lunched at Jan Van Eyck Restaurant & Tea room which was nice, caual, friendly and affordable with good omlettes. Dinner at Herberg Vlissingle on Blenkerstraat 2 - very old pub, very casual and good food.

The property listing is absolutely accurate. The booking procedure with Francis was straightforward and very quick. The welcome from Marie Christine at the property was first class; warm, friendly and so helpful - I could recommend the property from this aspect alone. The house is fully equipped and as others have said, very central. This makes it easy to return to the house during the day to relax between sight-seeing events should you wish to. We arrived by car but after unloading at the house, didn't use it again during our four day stay. Free car parking is about a 6 minute walk from the house - the owner could not have done more to help with finding a space and directions (essentially she will take you there and bring you back to the property, so it is hassle-free). The information book in the house is really comprehensive; Marie Christine provided a map, more information as required, tips and advice and is a real ambassador for Bruges. There was some Belgian beer in the refrigerator and a sample of chocolates too! I am not usually moved to write reviews but the welcome and service at "De Hoedenmaker" was of such a high standard that it would have been wrong of me not to have done so. We are a couple with three teenaged children - we all loved Bruges and would happily visit again.

A Taste of Brugge

The De Hoedenmaker house is the perfect rental. There were 5 in our party...2 adults and 3 teenagers. The kids each had their own bed which they were looking forward to after having to share beds nights before. The kitchen was stocked with essentials...cooking utensils, coffee, spices. A binder was supplied that included pamphlets on different places to eat and activities to do.

We took a taxi from the train station to De Hoedenmaker. It cost 13 euros to get to the house and 11 euros to get to the train station.

We rented bikes (8 euros per day per bike) at Snuffles. If you choose to rent bikes, just be there early enough so there are enough bikes. We got there at 10 am and took the last bikes. My daughter got a flat, but we returned it for another bike without any problems.

Down the street from Snuffles is Spegelaere (chocolates). The owners were helpful and the chocolates delicious. We bought chocolates and were able to transport them back to the US without any meltage. This was a nice treat for our famlily and friends.

The Fry Museum was interesting. I know more information about potatoes now:)

Being that the town is not that big, the location of the house is ideal. We were greeted upon arrival and had all of our questions answered.

We would love to visit Brugge again.

We spent 4 wonderful days in this Bruge house on vacation. The house made our vacation. It was very nice and absolutely adorable. The house was even better than the photos reflected and extremely clean and well maintained. The owner spent an hour with us when we arrived explaining the amenities and the many tourist acitivities in Bruge, understandly proud of her town. We were less than a block away from the best restaurant in Bruge, Tom's Diner. We would definitely recommend this property and would love to return.

De Hoedenmaker was an excellent choice for us on our week-long visit to Brugge. The property was accurately depicted in every respect and a pleasure to rent. Maria Christine is a wonderful, attentive, and professional owner who takes pride in her property and was helpful to us throughout our stay. The listing photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities. There is a fully-stocked kitchen, and a laundry room that included a fully-functioning washer and dryer. Our grandchildren enjoyed the bedrooms and the personal attention made to make the bedrooms attractive for them. We were pleasantly surprised by the toys available for children. A taxi service recommended by the owners was reasonable and responsible. Nearby restaurants and attractions noted in the House Book were invaluable in helping us enjoy all the attractions of wonderful Brugge. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone so fortunate as to be able to spend time in Brugge. Of the properties we used during our European trip this year none could compare to De Hoedenmaker, both in the property's amenities and in the ease we had in planning our stay with Francis and Maria-Christine. They are excellent people to deal with!
