I bought this cottage with a surfing buddy of mine back in 1989. It was to be our surf shack. A place to come get a few waves, crash, get some more waves, maybe a veggie sub at Lisa's, and then head back to our other lives back in VB.
My co-owner's nickname from childhood was 'Onion' ,(something to do with a bad haircut, I think), so the cottage was quickly christened 'Onionville' by some friends of ours who had a few too many beers one afternoon at one of the local watering holes after a surf session. They met a painter in the bar and commissioned a sign which, unsolicited by us, soon appeared on the house; a cool surfer dude looking Onion sporting a pair of Wayfarer shades. 'Onionville 'was born! It was the place of many surfing expeditions and sunburned memories. Several years later I bought out his share but the name (and the sign) remained.
Three years ago I gutted and rebuilt the entire house from the top down. All new siding and roof and walls and floors and solid wood doors and appliances and furniture and....we even had a new Onionville sign painted. The sun does shine bright on the Outer Banks!!
It is now a small but beautiful and cozy little boat at anchor on pilings in the middle of Hatteras Island only steps from the beach and with a view of the sound.
This little house has 2 bedrooms, a full bath upstairs and a 1/2 bath in the ground floor laundry room. I built a fabulous porch with high ceilings and rooftop observation cocktail deck.
It is perfect for a couple or a small family. We are only 6 houses back from a spectacularly wide stretch of Hatteras National Seashore beach. We are on the Ocean side of Route 12 and in the quiet ,well-maintained seaside community of Hatteras Colony, close to stores, shops and restaurants. You can share in the legacy of 'Onionville' !

Surf. Clean water. Wide beaches . Cool breezes. Laid back and mellow. Uncrowded Nature . Cool surf shops and restaurants with sunset views.
Nice beach right out front. Hatteras Colony has nice clean streets for kids to bike ride. My daughters both learned to ride bikes there.
