LOG CABIN ON FARM ABOVE HOWARDS CK FALLS. WORK FOR RATE OPTION

Boone Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

My survival farm has a new duplex log cabin that was custom built in 2006, on 3 ½ acres and surrounded by 20 or more virgin acres with mountain views. For those who want to become more engaging in the daily farm chores, I offer $25, $20 hour rates depending on the task; chopping wood, hauling mulch, gravel, trimming goat hooves, milking goats, attending to bees, garden and other farm duties. Both sides of the cabin may be available. For those that just want to relax and enjoy the mountains, you can rest assured that my farm and cabin are very well maintained.

We are only 5 miles to downtown Boone, College and 13 miles to Appalachian ski slopes.

Situated above the log cabin on the high mountains slopes are the Farm Animals, rare Nigerian Dwarf Goats,(milking goats daily) and Chickens. I live in a small mini cabin above the log cabin, with my animals.

Our Hen house is open to quests to visit the hens and help themselves to some country eggs for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you feel like some mushrooms in your eggs, feel free to pick a couple shitake mushrooms. Also the vegetable gardens are free to pick salads and vegetable as plan your meals.

Our berry patches are also free for the picking. We have in season, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.

Hikers there are trails going down to the Falls below me and right behind the cabin is an easy level trail leading to the goldfish pond filled naturally with water trickling off the mountain. Lots of the wildflowers and wild edibles that can be used for herbal remedies, medicinal's. Master bedroom has a nice sliding glass door that opens to your very private back deck/porch. Lots of walking grounds for walking a dog or just enjoying. At 4,500 elevation, ceiling fans are all you need in summer with temperatures around 73 degrees. We are situated on the east side of the mountain, protecting us from a lot of the harsh winds in winter and keeping cool in the summer.

Bonfire pit has a grill on it and you can barbecue right there, roast marshmallow, sit around and enjoy the night air.

Charcoal barbecue and we provide charcoal and starter fluid.

New queen size bed with memory foam topper. The cabin is very clean, and airy with lots of windows. Living room has a TV, queen size convertible couch, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, new appliances, new monitor heater.

Song birds, hummingbirds, and all kinds of birds visit our feeders. Squirrels and Chipmunks also enjoy the feeders. You might even see a deer from you bedroom sliding glass door.

Great location and price!

My family and I just returned from visiting Coleen's property and we had a wonderful time! The first day there I fed an adorable baby goat and met the rest of the farm animals! Lucy the dog was my favorite cabin visitor and my son had a blast exploring the property with her! We would love to come back and visit during warmer weather to see what everything under the snow looks like. :) I definitely recommend this property for a fun family getaway!

Owner's Response: Thanks Courtney for the great review. Also thank Jeremy for helping me keep the baby goats in. Tell him the fencing is working great. I told him to deduct money from the rate but he didn't and I appreciate what he did and the check. Hurry Back.

Awesome place!!!

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed seven full days at Colleen's place. Her hospitality is above and beyond! The cabin is very nice and quaint. The scenery around the cabin us very picturesque and majestic. I certainly suggest the trek down to the falls right below the cabin. You will not be disappointed! As an animal lover, I really enjoyed seeing all of her furry babies. Especially Lucy! She is such a lover and sweet, sweet girl! I will most certainly book another trip here! Hopefully next spring! I HIGHLY suggest staying at Colleen's place!! The location is perfect! Literally within 30-40 minutes to most of the places we wanted to visit during our stay.....Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Blue Ridge Parkway and many others. There's many great local restaurants as well. I suggest Hob Nob Farm Cafe and Come Back Shack. I promise, you will not be disappointed with your stay! :)

Owner's Response: Thanks Heather for the great review. I love the come back shack also. They serve a local burger with free range cows. The chickens will be enjoying the pumpkins soon. I have been lighting them up at night and I moved them to my porch. It is quiet here until the weekend and I am enjoying myself. Hope you are nice and refreshed and ready to meet the challenges of work and other responsibilities that crop up.

My husband and I spent a week in one of the cabins. We were beyond pleased!! Everything was just as the pictures showed. Very clean with many amenities. The animals added even more fun to the week. The scenery was beautiful. We could not have asked for anything better. We definitely recommend this rental and we hope to visit again in the future!

Fabulous location and experience!

  • 5 of 5
My two friends and I visited Coleen's place for Memorial Weekend this year! Although I've only been back in Raleigh for less than 24hours, I have NOT been able to stop talking about Coleen's place to friends and family since we arrived! I have to say this is probably the best VRBO experience I've ever had!

Coleen's place is a hidden gem, nestled high up in the mountains; the only things you hear around you is rushing water from the waterfalls, birds chirping and her cute little animals now and then! Her place is absolutely serene, the cottages were beautiful and well maintained, anything we needed was there plus more. Directions to her place were clear and concise and the pictures were accurate to a T...and even better in person!

Coleen was warm and welcoming, when we arrived at our room there were fresh eggs waiting for us on our kitchen table and we were greeted by sweet Lucky Girl and the rest of the animals. Thumper (the turkey) was beautiful and entertaining to say the least, he has a good personality and loves guests. Coleen was very informative and helpful when answering our questions and giving us directions and ideas of where to go around Boone and the Blowing Rock area. She has many tourist guides in the apartments and has directions pinned up on the bulletin boards for local hot spots.

I already miss the mountains and our amazing place we stayed at, I can't wait to go back. In fact, we've already reserved our weekend in the fall and I am giving her name and email to many friends who have seen the pics and asked for contact info.

There are many activities to do around the area, my friends and I took the Sky Valley Zip Line tour, went to Boone Fork Trail and visited many other places. However, there is lots of hiking and activities to do around the property if you want to stick around.....there is a gun shot range out back, which is convenient for those who want to partake in that, also there are several waterfalls that are within hiking distance...both of them require some good hiking boots, but it's such an amazing experience once you are down there!

It was also great that I could bring my dog, she's not much of an outdoors type BUT it was just nice having here there with me, she liked the animals around the farm and sunning herself!
I can't wait to go back, thank you so MUCH Coleen for a great weekend. I feel refreshed and ready to finish off the school year. I might start looking for jobs in the Boone area, it's to die for! Thank you!

Animal friendly, wonderful working farm and cozy cabins

  • 5 of 5
We were drawn to Colleen's cabins because it was not only in the mountains, but is an actual modest working farm. I wanted a get-away for my 12 year-old daughter and me. I love hiking. My daughter sort of likes hiking, but absolutely loves animals. The cabin was perfect. I loved the real-wood floors and paneling. It is a real mountain cabin. It was simple, but very clean and full of personal touches. The modern amenities (stove, fridge, ceiling fans, heater, TV + DVD player) were much appreciated for night time chill hours. The bathroom was modern and the water hot; much appreciated after a long day out doors in late winter. Being pet friendly was a plus. We brought our family dog along and felt very welcomed in doing so.

Saturday we had the chance to sign up for chores. My daughter loved the chance just to be around the chickens, the very cute chicks, the goats, and the most remarkable turkey I've ever seen. But she was also inspired to do some real farm work. We worked some things together. She took on some jobs all by herself. Amazing, fresh and happy.

There are two great water falls within a 20 - 30 minute walking hike from the cabins. The elevation change is pretty steep and the trails are wilderness grade, especially to get to the larger falls. A good pair of hiking boots and a bit of experience is definitely recommended. The cool thing is that no matter where you are around the cabins, you can hear the rushing water. Very peaceful. There is a really cool outdoor fire pit area, small shooting range, and even a small goldfish pond.

This place is the perfect semi-rustic mountain weekend getaway. While there are tons of parks, trails, and historic towns nearby, you really don't have leave the cabins to get the mountain experience. But if you are like us and get that pizza craving on Saturday night, the Mellow Mushroom is 22 minutes away in downtown Boone, along with many other local eateries and shops. We found the menu in our cabin, and picked up a couple of DVD's on the way back to finish out our evening. Enjoy!
