Overview

Crescent City Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-7)

Enjoy our secluded, rustic and comfortable cabin, nestled on 1.5 acres on the bank of the Wild and Scenic Smith River in the heart of Redwood National and State Parks. Experience the gorgeous and world-renowned 'Stout Grove' of ancient and majestic redwood trees just 3 miles up the road. There is a beautiful sandy swimming beach across the bridge, just minutes walking distance away.

The cabin has been our weekend retreat for 5 years, and we are ready to share it with others. International guests have called the Riverside Cabin the most beautiful place in the world they have ever stayed. There are 2 bedrooms, but our favorite place to stay is the king-sized trundle bed in the living room. You go to sleep by moonlight, and wake to the year-round waterfall out the window.

Our son's 40 lb King Salmon caught when he was 11, greets you as you enter the living room. Enjoy the hot tub and sauna for a late evening relaxation with a drink or an early morning pot of coffee. The waterfall and the 2000 year old redwood tree next to the deck are your view. Come and experience true relaxation in the fantasy 'Star War's', 'Return of the Jedi' location where Ewoks live and play amongst the world's tallest trees.

About Dennis and Becky Wood

We have lived in the Crescent City area for 30 years, and own All Creatures Animal Hospital & Bird Clinic. We have raised 6 wonderful children here and believe this to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. We lead a very busy life filled with faith, family, work, and community involvement, and understand the need for peace and total relaxation to renew the soul.

Dennis and Becky Wood purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Dennis and Becky Wood chose Crescent City

We purchased this property 8 years ago as a family retreat, 15 miles from our home and close enough for us to enjoy regularly. Our blood pressure drops 30 points every time we pull in the driveway, open the car door and smell the mountain and river air. Guests have been late to appointments and other engagements, because they couldn't bring themselves to leave in the morning. With all the joy it has brought to friends and acquaintances, we have decided to share it to a greater audience.

What makes this cabin unique

The peace and feeling of the wilderness are palpable. The beautiful clear waters of the Smith River below you and the sight and sound of the waterfall as you stand under the 2000 year old first growth redwood tree are almost surreal. The privacy of the hot tub and sauna in this setting is unmatched anywhere. Mornings and evenings by the wood fire are cozy and the possibility of a good movie with surround sound and a plate of hot cookies is too good to pass up!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Breathtakingly beautiful cabin and surrounding area.

  • 5 of 5
My family had the opportunity to stay at Denis & Becky's place for a week. Becky had cookies waiting and gave us a tour of the grounds when we arrived. The cabin is cozy and welcoming and completely charming. We cooked all of our meals in the well stocked kitchen and were so comfortable and relaxed our entire time there. There are so many trail heads within walking distance or very short drive and having a waterfall to greet you in the morning and say good night is something I've never experienced. Truly wonderful property in a wonderful part of the world.

Great Visit!

  • 4 of 5
Truly enjoyed our visit to this home. It was perfect for us as we were looking for a quiet, secluded spot very near the redwoods. We didn't want to drive a long distance to see the trees so this was perfect as it was just minutes away. The house is very rustic with old appliances but we like that. There is nothing fancy here and definitely no mold smells (mentioned in an earlier review). Just a quiet location with a great view and all the basics. We enjoyed the hot tub and the scenery the most. We would come back again!

Rustic hideaway

  • 4 of 5
I'll start by saying that we generally loved the place, with just a few minor complaints which I'll get to later. It's difficult to give a star rating without having these rentals arranged by some kind of class category, but if you come here after having carefully read the Owner provided pictures and write-up, and the user reviews, you should be very happy with your experience here. The previous user review bashing for moldy smell was ridiculous. We only very slightly noticed it one corner of the house. Nothing. This is a charming rustic old cabin with idiosyncrasies you would expect from such. High points: The giant redwood, proximity to the river & Jedediah Smith Redwoods, the hot tub (we didn't use the sauna), the classic old range, the apple cookies...all made it great. Not so high points: If you like to cook, and plan to cook more than heat & serve here, it can be challenging. They have well used basics, but bring things you will depend on. I always bring my own sharp knife... but wished I brought a few other things. Tongs to name one. There are tons of spices here.. but most are waaaay past their toss date. BYO. Bed-wise, we used Owner advice from their write-up and used the king trundle in the living room. That was relatively comfortable, but a bit awkward to use due to having to enter/exit from the foot of the bed, and we had a heck of a time finding the right bedding for it. Unfolding and refolding wrong bedding is a real pain. Would be nice if it was stored in a way that it could be labeled (a box..a bag.. certain shelf..etc.) The owner(s) was unable to meet us upon arrival so I suspect they would normally have shown us which ones to use. I am sure too we could have called and asked, but you know.. one really hates to do that. Finally the proximity of the road behind the hot tub area is not the perfect solitude one would hope for here. We are backpackers, and thrive on rustic living getaways, so this was a terrific place in our eyes. If you the type expecting a hotel-like cleanliness, then this is not for you. Come and enjoy! We would definitely come back.

Cozy cabin on Exceptional Lot!

  • 4 of 5
Although the cabin is a little old and full of nicknacks, it is clean and cozy and on one of the most beautiful lots in the area! Never have I had the luxury of practicing yoga on a deck right next to my own personal Redwood! The lot also overlooks a scenic river in a deep canyon. It's only about two minutes from one of the state parks that is incorporated in the Redwood National Park system, and we truly were in awe of that grove so close by! We also enjoyed the older hot tub, once we got the temp regulated, and we liked the little sauna enclosure in the yard! Perfect location close to a little used beach on the river, as well as to all the Redwoods and ocean.

Beautiful setting. Wonderful time.

  • 5 of 5
This property is in a gorgeous location looking over the Smith River. There are so many wonderful hikes and swimming and fishing spots within walking or short driving distance. The giant redwoods are spectacular and within biking distance. A fantastic location.

The house is very well equipped--plenty of towels and sheets and good cooking equipment, with a great BBQ and outdoor seating-- even a fire place. My only complaint-- a bit musty. Seems like there are some old decorative items in there that have seen better days and should be removed. I bet that would make the difference.

But I'm not fussy-- the view and the location more than made up for it. Owners were very nice and helpful. My husband and I went there to celebrate our 'empty nest' as our youngest headed to college and it was blissful. Recommend.
