Keywords: Oceanfront cottage deepwater shorefront secluded
My family has owned this property since the mid seventies. John and I have lived here for long periods of time and plan on moving back permanently at some point in the not-so-distant future.
Dee purchased this cottage in 1975
Pristine refuge on a quiet, tide-charged, nature abundant, deeply wooded, ocean front peninsula. 15 miles from the village. Exquisite opportunities for biking, hiking, boating, swimming, roasting marshmallows and sitting around a wood stove. Great refuge from the crowds and easy distance from Acadia National Park for day tripping.
Waterfront tranquility, access to nature, privacy and stunning views across the bay to Acadia National Park. This sort of deep water pristine shorefront, where you walk to the beach from your front yard, is an increasingly endangered species. Enjoy it while it lasts!
"Summer was almost gone when we suddenly decided that we would need a
vacation. Since in Northern Virginia area where we live was quite hot, we
thought that Maine would be a good choice. We haven't been before up there
and therefore only when I started to look for a rental I realized it could
be difficult to find something that we would like. I almost abandoned the
search when my husband surprisingly (he usually doesn't get himself involved
in vacation's planning) send me the link and the Mapquest satellite view of
a cottage that happened to be opened only for a week. By a lucky coincidence
that week was one of our two possibilities. We are quite picky and we had
some requirements: waterfront, open view, inflatable launching possibility,
fishing, biking and running possibility, a small to medium sized cottage (it
was about us two). I couldn't believe it! The cottage answered "yes" to our
requirements. We booked it and here we were on our way to find out
that more was expecting for us.... the location has magnificent views, the
mysterious combination of water and mountain, the cottage is the coziest and
homiest we have seen, everything in the house is carefully selected and
designed throwing you gracefully back in time, and there is nothing (and we
literally mean NOTHING) that you would need and it won't be there; from all
sorts of kitchen stuff to binoculars and fishing gear; even a rowing boat!
And then, in one of the evenings we invited Dee over for a glass of wine.
The top of the surprises came when we met the nicest and friendliest
We left the place with our souls full of optimism and nostalgia promising
ourselves that we will be back and we will bring our grown up sons and their
girlfriends too.... the cottage can easily fit 6 persons.
It was for us a wonderful vacation spent in a piece of heaven...."
Have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

We booked a week in early Sept. 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and quiet, isolated property overlooking Union River Bay and the mountains of Acadia NP. The cottage is very comfortable, clean and private. Lots of guides, books and maps to nearby attractions and activities in the cottage. The large sketch book and crayons were a bonus. Great location between Blue Hill peninsula and Acadia. Kitchen was well stocked with supplies, including a lobster pot, for meals. Only wished we could have spent more time there. An ideal place to get away from the grid, crowds and to unwind.
Having never rented from VRBO, we didn't know what to expect. This little gem far exceeded all expectations! The cottage was charming, immaculate, and well maintained. Dee has thought of everything, from a well stocked kitchen, complete with coffee and hot chocolate, loads of towels, comfy beds, and a kayak. The view from the deck can't be beat! The most relaxing vacation we have had in years. I have already shared the link with friends. Can't wait to return!
What a beautiful cottage and setting. Nature's silence except for the loon's nightly greeting, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, wonderful owners. Thank you Dee for a great vacation. We'll definitely be back. Dave + Mary Lou
I’m writing this with Thanksgiving on my mind and gratitude in my soul for this incredibly special “painted lady” on Lee Lane. When the cottage I’d rented for 10 years was no longer available, I was heartbroken – how would I ever find a place as special? The first new place I rented in 2012 was very nice, but I missed the view I had come to love. This summer I found that spectacular view again – the ocean framed by the mountains of Acadia – and more than that, I found my new most special place. This cottage is adorable and comfortable, Dee was absolutely delightful and so helpful, and the view from the deck is priceless. Neither my travel bud nor I are morning people, yet several times during our stay we bumped into each other in the hall as we headed to the deck to watch the sunrise. Coming from the city, my goal for my Maine vacation is to be surrounded by nature and not people. This gem is the perfect place for peaceful renewal. Yet, it’s easy to get to Acadia, Ellsworth and Blue Hill. I was a little concerned about the studio being on the same property, but rarely saw the other renters and the cottage is nestled behind a lovely garden so felt very private. In fact, if I was travelling alone the studio would be an ideal home for the week. I hope to return to Lee Lane again and again for more weeks of restoration. Thank you, Dee!
My wife and I recently stayed a week at the cottage. We really loved it. It was plenty big enough for us and our dog. It could comfortably accommodate 3 or 4 people. The cottage was clean and nicely furnished. The first morning we awoke before the sun was up and watched the sun rise over the distant mountains and nearby ocean – just beautiful!! We liked walking the beach at low/mid tide and riding our bikes on the road. There was little traffic so riding there was safe. We also enjoyed cooking fish on the grill and sitting on the deck.
Like the listing says, it’s about 40 minutes to Acadia N.P. We spent several afternoons there – site seeing, whale watching, etc. Bar Harbor was fun to walk around, shop and have dinner. We went to various little towns to the south too. Camden Harbor is worth the trip – be sure to check out the view of the harbor and beyond from Mt. Battie in nearby Camden Hills State Park while you’re in that area.
Thanks to Dee for answering our questions and for letting us bring our dog to the cottage!! We hope to get back to Surry soon.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay. When we drove down the drive we were delighted to find a charming cottage awaiting us! It's a thoughtful home with lots light, windows, and a wrap a round deck to lounge, grill, read, and relax. Our pup loved the yard atop the beach and the longs walks down the road to open fields. We started the day with coffee on the deck and ended the day enjoying wine and dinner on the deck. The yard had little pockets of gardens and the overall feel was enchanting. It was peaceful, inviting, personable, and very clean. Nice linens, furniture and basic kitchen and food items. We found ourselves gazing out onto the water mesmerized by the purple/pink light above the Acadian mountains. We would love to build a similar home! We enjoyed day trips to Stonington and Deer Isle as well some hikes in Acadia. It's great that this home is available to people with pets, too. The listing and photos are accurate and Dee was available for any questions. It was a great place to fall in love with Maine again!
If this is booked for the week you'd like, try 304317. Smaller, but on same property.
