Durango Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed & 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

There are only a handful of vacation rental properties in the Durango area that have the exquisite views and location that this cozy log cabin offers. But don't worry - it is easy to get to even in the winter!!

As you drive to The Primrose Mountain Cabin, the peace of the aspen and spruce forest envelopes you. Don't be surprised to see deer or elk on the way. When you step out of your car the jaw dropping views will entrance you.

No matter the season the Primrose Mountain Cabin is the pefect place for your Durango vacation. The pristine beauty of this area, just 20 minutes north of Durango and 12 minutes south of the Durango Mountain Ski and Summer Resort, just seems to take you to another peaceful world. Here you will appreciate an area that has not been over developed and retains its rugged mountain beauty and historic western charm.

The Primrose Mountain Cabin is an immaculate little piece of heaven with a large living and dining area off of which is the front deck and its breathtaking views. A perfect place for a barbecue or just to relax. A newly added sunroom provides a second area for family fun. (For example, it provides a second peaceful living area in case part of the family does not want to watch T.V. in living room.)

In the winter you can catch the twinkling of the sun off the snowscapes out your large floor to ceiling windows or snuggle by the fire. You are in someplace special - away from the highrises and the crowds. You really get a feel for being in the Colorado mountains.

The cabin sleeps 8 with a king bed in the loft bedroom. The second bedroom, with a queen bed, has its own sitting area, bathroom and deck (and of course the views). The third bedroom also offers a queen bed. There is also a double sofa bed in the main living room.

Watching the big game or a movie is a treat with the

42'HD T.V with Blue Ray in the living room. Each bedroom has its own T.V. so everyone gets to watch what they want!

There are cabins ...but what makes this cabin very special are the two private decks that overlook the incredible valley below and facing 11,000 ft 'Hermosa Cliffs'. (We call them cliffs, vistors call them mountains!) You are in the heart of the mountains but an easy 20 minute drive to downtown Durango. What location could be more perfect??

The easy hike to the beautiful Electra Lake makes this location even more perfect. You can enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, or dining on the lake in an historic sporting club built in 1929. Once you get to the lake, the views over the lake and mountains are breath taking! Haviland Lake is also a 5 minute drive. Wonderful fishing can be found here too. There are trails around and near the lake that will take you to some incredible scenery. Even our weather, with over 300 days of sunshine almost no humidty and powdery snow in winter is near perfect.

If the kids want to swim or you would like to work out there is a fitness center with indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool and day spa just 4 minutes away at The Tamarron Resort. Or enjoy Trimble Hot Springs or The Durango Recreation Center for more swimming options.

Just 12 minutes north is the Durango Mountain Resort (formerly Purgatory) where almost every winter sport and activity is available. In the summer it offers concerts, world class mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, jeeping, and more. Top rated golf courses are just minutes away.

Twenty minutes south is the Western historic town of Durango with shops, resturants, and home to the famous Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. You can enjoy white water rafting, rodeos, hot springs, and more. Mesa Verde, home of the ancient 'Cliff Dweller American Indians' is a short drive away. Since this cabin is at about 8400 feet it is often ten degrees cooler than downtown Durango and enjoys summer temperatures in the 70s and 80s and cool mountain night sleeping!

Guestbook comments from the manager

What an amazing cabin. We came for our family vacation and have had the most amazing time. The view is awesome. We got to see lots of wild life including a herd of elk in the fields you can see from the back deck. We could not have asked for a better place to spend our family time.

We will recommend and be back to the Primrose Cabin. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Spectacular Views, Rustic but Modern Cabin

  • 4 of 5
This cabin was a perfect mix of rustic but modern, and I loved the bear theme throughout. With three couples and a 5-year-old, the home offered adequate privacy even with the loft upstairs. You definitely need to keep your eye on any children, as this home is literally at the edge of a cliff which is separated by the deck. The views were unprecedented not only in the day but at night, when you could see the Milky Way, stars, and satellites with the clarity of the dark night sky. The home is located right next to another home, which I wasn't expecting, but the group kept to themselves. But worth mentioning if you're looking for complete solitude, as we were. Also - it would have been great if there was more than one roll of TP for each bathroom and laundry detergent for the towels which we were asked to wash! I remember, in retrospect, the mgmt. company asking us to bring some paper items but forgot, as I'm sure others have too. Other than that - this is a beautiful location with enough space to move around and enjoy the spectacular views of Durango.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed the cabin and appreciated the beautiful views. We are sorry you felt that 2 rolls of TP for a 2 night stay were not enough! Also, sorry for confusion about towels. We certainly do not mean that you had to wash the towels on your departure if you chose not to. We will make changes in the welcome book to clarify that. Yes, we do send guests a list of items provided and what you should bring but if I had known you needed anything I could have assisted you!
We are so appreciative to have you as our guests and we do want our guests' stays to be as enjoyable t as possible!

Amazing Vacation in an amazing home

  • 5 of 5
Primrose Cabin is an amazing place. The pictures on VRBO do not do it justice. We took our family of 5 (3 kids ages 12, 10 & 6) here in July for a fantastic vacation. Each day we'd come back to the cabin exhausted from white water rafting, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, 4x4 jeep in the high mountains...and it was so relaxing to sit out on the deck and chill. We had a blast playing UNO as a family in the cabin. It's perfectly located between Durango and Durango Mountain Resort that you can nip to either in 10-20 mins. Our kids were very excited about the bedrooms (each had their own TV at night with satellite), as well as the wi-fi internet access of course.
We'd come back here in a heartbeat.
Thanks for sharing your home with us!!!
The Whites.

Fantastic Cabin getaway

  • 5 of 5
My wife I had a fantastic stay at this cabin. It's in a beautiful, peaceful setting, close enough to town but far enough away to feel secluded. The cabin is well appointed and has everything you need for a short weekend or a longer stay. Could easily accomodate more than just the wife and I, with lots of rooms and lots of views.

I would highly recommend staying here. The owner was very prompt, curteous and helpful.

Overall a great experience. We will be back!

Perfect Second Honeymoon!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I ran away to the mountains for a week and could not have picked a more charming location to run to. The Primrose Cabin was cozy yet spacious, and would have comfortably fit many more guests than just the two of us. I especially loved the feeling of isolation surrounded by nothing but nature, mountains, and stars, yet a 20 minute drive to downtown Durango and all the restaurants and shops it has to offer. The weather was still considerably cold while we were there, and the wood burning stove perfectly warmed the family room and loft bedroom where we stayed (don't worry, this is not the only source of heat, there are thermostats in each room). We spent a day on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and enjoyed every second of it! Also, we would highly recommend Steamworks Brewing Co (they have s'mores for dessert!) and if you're willing for an amazing (and a little more expensive) date night, go to the Ore House. I would highly recommend the Primrose Cabin to anyone and everyone. It's a fantastic place to stay in a gorgeous part of CO.

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5
The Primrose Cabin turned out to be the perfect getaway for me and my family. The moment we stepped inside the cabin, it felt like home. It was clean and inviting and the views from the back window and patio were breathtaking.

I found the kitchen to be stocked with all of the pots, pans, dishes, and utensils we needed to prepare our own meals. We chose to eat in most of the time because the atmosphere was so peaceful and relaxing. We were able to hike and play capture the flag in the front yard. My boys loved being outside. They explored and played, then loved having their own room with their own television when they were inside.

I loved that the Primrose family had a brochure basket so we could look through and pick things to do. I also loved that they had a book on the table recommending restaraunts, hikes, and activities. My only wish is that we had stayed longer than three nights.

We did have the opportunity to take the train ride, which we all loved. I highly recommend this to anyone traveling to Durango. I hope we can return in the summer to take advantge of more destinations and activities in the area. When we do return, I can't imagine staying anywhere other than the Primrose Cabin.
