Shelling:
Don`t forget to bring a bag or pail. If you are lucky enough to get a night when the wind blows up the surf, get up at first light and enjoy a bounty of shells left by the gods. Get there early because others will be out for the best shells at first light. If you are an ardent Sheller, walk over to Fish Tale Marina (this is the marina located behind Santini mall). Go to the small shop where they sell the bait, they always have a stack of tide charts that they will give you for free (they are just to the left of the area where you would normally pay for goods). Now find a day on the chart where there is a low tide in the morning. If you get a windy night that blows up the surf and a low tide in the morning you will be amazed at the shells on the beach. I guarantee you will see shells you never saw before (please do not take any living marine life).
The Walk:
The walk on the beach is in itself a gift. This area is loaded with birds and marine life. It all seems to congregate at your door step. This is the south end of the island, it is known for being quiet and unchanged. The south end is Florida at its best. We have the beaches to ourselves and the roads are quiet and everyone is friendly. If you like company for you and or your children, walk out to the breach virtually at your doorstep and turn right and walk over to the Holiday Inn. Here you can rent a beach lounge and partake in food and drink at the outdoor Tiki Hut (they have entertainment at the pool). They have a pool and the beach will have children and guests from around the world. The Holiday Inn`s management would love to have you rent their wave runners and buy food and drink. Or have lunch in your condo and walk south on the beach to one of the most beautiful inlets in Florida (Big San Carlos Pass) this is one of my favorite fishing spots.
Ski:
It's a short distance to beaches on nearby Sanibel and Captiva . If you want to see a different kind of beach, walk out to the trolley stand / bench and take a Trolley south or take your car to Lovers Key National Park. You will be going out of your complex and turning right and going about 2 miles. This is a national park and the beaches are white and they are different in that the tree line comes to the short white sandy beach and the water. The fishing is great here too. There are lagoons on the island that you can walk along or ride a bike. This is also where you can rent a kayak; take a sight seeing boat or buy bait and fishing gear.

Friends of Edison...Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone wintered in Ft. Myers. Their friend Jim Newton, real estate developer, lived on the beach The restored Edison/Ford estates and Edison's workshop may be viewed daily in Ft. Myers, the city of palms (Edison bought and lined McGregor Blvd. with palm trees). There's a small historic museum in the town of Ft. Myers Beach. The Shrimp Festival Parade in March closes 1 bridge at the north end where shrimp boats dock. Outside of Ft Myers, you can travel to Orlando (3 1/2 hrs.) or to Key West (5 hrs.). A high-speed catamaran has a daily trip to the Keys in 3 1/2 hrs., during which you can eat or play the slots. An option to stay overnight & have more time there is available. Take a short cruise from Ports of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.
Other Activities:
Put on your beach shoes and wade across the shallow estuary to the outer sandbar beach to find powdery white sand, a gradual drop off, gentle waves an
