A great escape in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5
I just returned home from a week-long stay at this property. My husband, toddler, two dogs and I really enjoyed our stay and found the home comfortable, relaxing and fully stocked with all the amenities we needed. The home is large and clean, with a beautiful spacious loft on the top floor. We also really enjoyed the large deck and ate most of out there, followed by a dip in the hot tub, of course. Also, I have to again thank you for welcoming our two dogs. All in all, we had a great time and the house was a perfect central location to explore all the state parks, lakes and hiking nooks that the beautiful mountainside of WV has to offer. Thank you! :-)

Nature & Seclusion at it's best!

Nature & Seclusion at it's best!

All the photos and 'reviews' are a true reflection of Oak Mountain Hollow Lodge!

It was a very pleasant experience co-ordinating with the owner Teresa. Thank you Teresa for letting us bring along our German Shepherd 'Malaika' - she loved the 'trails'!!

Being greeted by the friendly resident cat 'Itty Bitty' on arrival certainly gave an extra 'homey' feel! It was always a nice experience feeding her every day and the other cat that came by occasionally.

Nature at it's best - deer, numerous birds and a racoon too! The surrounding trees rustling in the wind..... wish we were still there! The week went by too quick :((

The property is simply awesome ….. photos cannot convey enough! The hot tub was a perfect way to end a fun-filled day! Cabin very clean and well maintained. The fire-pit and outdoor grill and the wrap-around deck were just perfect!

Certainly worth the drive from Ontario, Canada. To all my fellow Canadians out there - you got to visit OMHL!

A Slice of Heaven in West Virginia

  • 5 of 5
What a great week we had at the Oak Mountain Hollow Lodge. As we left the road and drove up the driveway we knew that this was a special place. We felt like Thoreau at Walden Pond, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature with no intrusion from the outside world. From the mornings filled with the call of a pair of cardinals who came to feed, to the evening moonlight drifting through a skylight, our week of solitude and seclusion was food for the soul.

Itty Bitty Kitty, a very loving cat, was waiting for her breakfast each morning. Some of her friends made appearances throughout the day and night. Deer, many birds (whose voices were delightful), butterflies (whose names we discovered) and even a raccoon ( who we explained to our dog after she first saw it, was a WV schnauzer.) came to say hello. And speaking of our dog, this was the most accommodating place she has ever been to. The fenced in deck, back yard, and over sized dog crate were all happily used. Well, she wasn't that happy when we left her in the crate!

We decided to come to this lodge because of its location, amenities, price, and pet friendliness. But what clinched our decision was the reviews. Since many of the other reviews focus on the cabin which we totally agree with and found exactly as stated, I would like to mention some of the things you might want to do if you can pull yourselves out of the hot tub!

We went on a couple train rides, (liked the Durbin ride best - watched a bald eagle flying above the water in the river next to the train tracks), rode horses to the top of Seneca Rocks, toured Seneca Caverns, and looked out from the highest point in WV from Spruce Knob. We went to see the Stirrup Gallery at Davis and Elkins College and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Climbed Rich Mountain to see the battlefield and walked the historical streets of Beverly. On the way from home we stopped at Audra State Park and walked the boardwalk under Alum Cave.

Hope you decide to come here. You'll be glad you did! Thoreau may well have been thinking about WV and the Oak Mountain Hollow Lodge when he said, "Heaven is under our feet as well as above our heads."

Perfect In Every Way...and THEN SOME!

  • 5 of 5
My husband, sister, brother-in-law, their beagle and I enjoyed a 4-day weekend celebrating a special 50th birthday and found this well maintained, very clean cabin to be PERFECT!!
The listing is wonderfully represented...maybe even underrepresented!
The cabin is wonderfully decorated with sweet rustic accents which add a home-like, quaint charm, while sporting some wonderful amenities like a stone fireplace, updated appliances including a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, range and coffee maker, a radio, instructions for non-techies, lists of local attractions, contact/emergency information, a telephone landline, an outside gas grill and a wonderful outside hot tub!
The hot tub is surrounded by beautiful views, sometimes making you feel like you were actually in the woods surrounded by various wildlife and that you were actually part of the spectacular sunsets across the ridge. ...The way perfect way to relax!
The 2 lower level bedrooms and living area are quite comfortable, the deck level living area is an open, bright room fostering a relaxing atmosphere whether enjoying the fireplace or just some good conversation.
The upper level master suite is extremely roomy. A skylight located above the bed allowed for some unexpected, amazing views of the night sky! It features both an outdoor balcony AND an indoor loft balcony. The outside balcony is private and perfect while the indoor loft balcony, located just over the main living area, offers weather-safe tree-top views of nature. This unique loft even allows you to enjoy some "alone time" while still remaining part of the activities....!
A unique feature of this cabin is Itty Bitty Kitty, a loving outdoor cat. He loves being part of your festivities and wrapping himself around your legs and is very lovable! We looked forwarding to feeding him each day.
The cabin's unique, secluded location truly makes you feel as if you have nature all to yourself--but not really, because you're not far from anything! It's an easy drive to the Elkins area and to local shopping (in case you forgot something that you just can't live without). We were surprised that we had good cell coverage; definitely an unexpected bonus. With 3 levels of spacious living area, there are stairs, but they only add to the cabin's quaintness.
The owner is spectacular and patient! Every aspect of our reservation was taken care of most expeditiously!
We definitely recommend this property and are reserving 5-days for next year!!

Relaxing and Secluded Mountain Log Home

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend at the Mountain Log Home. The home has every comfort and then some. The home was very comfortable and had every convenience we could have asked and was very well equipped. Perfect location for visiting many scenic natural wonders of West Virginia and the 2014 Ramp and Rails Festival in Elkins. A great place if you are looking for quiet, peace and solitude.

Amazing Vacation

  • 5 of 5
My husband, stepdaughter and I stayed at the cabin in October 2013. The cabin is spacious and beautifully appointed. So peaceful, quiet and private. The best vacation ever for me. Hubby and daughter went out during the day, but because of a knee injury, I was content to stay at the cabin with my dogs, listen to the leaves fall from the trees and enjoy the hot tub. We all came together as a family for breakfast and dinner around the large table with great meals made in the well equipped kitchen. I got some real quality and much needed time with my stepdaughter here also. She fell in love with Itty Bitty Kitty and would come in with loads of cat hair. Highly urge that you visit this beautiful peace of heaven.
