This magnificent estate was built in 1901, by a famous Adirondack builder. The only great camp as they are called, in the village of lake placid. Overlooking whiteface mtn. And beautiful lake placid. Once owned by President Trujillo of Cuba. Convenient walk to downtown and all amenities, beaches ,shops, restaurants, theatre. Sitting atop signal hill, with lots of privacy, great for family gatherings, weddings, winter or summer...beautiful porches and gardens.

My friends and I came to wonderful Cedarcrest for a vacation. When we arrived the house looked exactly like the pictures. We entered the huge door and immediately saw the massive stone fireplace and wooden stairwell and floors. This was rustic, clean and well stocked with condiments, dishes, dishwasher, pots and pans etc. There were six of us and each of us helped ourselves to a bedroom, mine being the "Redroom". It is clear the sheets are hung out to dry as they smelled like the outdoors and not like a sheet of "Bounce" The bathtubs are the old fashioned claw type complete with shower. We were looking for something different than the usual and this home, with it's panoramic view was the perfect accommodation for us. The phone service is part of the package and was helpful in booking our hiking, canoeing, and kayaking events. We were able to walk downtown and hike around Mirror Lake (there really is not a monster there like the movie suggests, lol). We were able to wash our clothes which was wonderful as with our hiking etc we got pretty dirty at times and had not brought a lot of clothing with us. We took the liberty of hanging our cloths on the line in an attempt to replicate the outdoor smell. If you want the run of the mill hotel style accommodation, this is not the place for you. If you want something out of the ordinary and live in an different era, with the amenities of home slipped in, this is the vacation home for you and your friends and family. This would be a wonderful location for a family reunion as there is a large back and front yard, as well a very large back porch where one can rock and view the mountains and lake. My friends and I have booked Cedarcrest for two years from now and hope to do so every two years.
My family and I came up for the wkend to do some skiing and kick back a little and Cedar Crest was definitely the perfect place to stay! The home is well located...walking distance to town yet very private and scenic and Whiteface is an easy 20 minute drive...and it's just amazing! Besides having everything you need (well-stocked kitchen, linens, etc), the home is incredibly spacious and the ambience is totally authentic Adirondack! We'll definitely be returning!!!
We had a large group of 12 adults stay at this house. I know I can speak for everyone when I say this place is incredible. However, if you can not appreciate art or history or what is really fantastic, don't come here. The history and beauty of this place is beyond amazing. We all had an excellent experience and definitely will be returning. One night we accidentally caused a short in the lights, the owners were apologizing to us! They were more than happy to come over in the night and fix it for us, even though we could have fixed it ourselves. They are the sweetest people and just based on that I would probably come back. Nothing negative to say. Giving people like this in a house like that was more fun a wonderful of an experience that we had at the fancy expensive Lake Placid Lodge!
This is my fourth time @ Cedarcrest and I plan to return here at every and any opportunity. The house is magnificent, the views are hypnotic and the location couldn't be better. Stepping into this house is like stepping into history. The back porch offers an oasis of tranquility and sweeping Adirondack vistas. Hidden beneath antiques and charm are all of the amenities you expect and want (wireless, etc) and yet you really don't want or need them because this is the essence of relaxation. A terrific location, a terrifc house and a terrific time had by all. Cant say enough about it except you don't know what you're missing if you haven't stayed here before!
My family and I just rented this house from July 7th to the 13th. What a woderful place to stay when you are in the adirondack mountains. The back porch is where you want to sit the entire you are there. The view of Lake Placid is amazing. The front porch is also a great place to gather as well. The antiques in the house are incredible. The accomidations were great for our family of 11. Plenty of beds for everyone to sleep comfortably. You do not need a car because everything is in walking distant from the home. I would highly reccomend this place to anyone.
Impressive is the entrance to this Adarondak home;upon entering you are greeted with a massive stone fireplace and detailed wood staircase which screams quintessential accommodation for a family gathering. A large group as we were immediately felt at home with no concerns of being crampted in this outstanding home. This property is condusive for relaxing and having fun. There a choice of very comfortable settings to enjoy memorable meals and either a large comfortable living room or a seperate den with a television to relax in . Set in breathtaking views the rearr porch, furnished in classic Adarondak furnitiure it is the perfect place for summer lunches. Cocktails and dinners are especially spectacular at sunset. Being a chef myself I found the spacious eat in kitchen well equipped with all the necessary tools and more. This classic camp also has a formal dining room should the weather be inclement for outdoor entertaining. You have all the makings for comfort in any eventuality. It was refreshing to find the charming camp bedrooms to be stocked with cotton linens and north star wool blankets; a rareity today. Although it is located in a prime spot atop the hill overlooking Lake Placid it is a short walk into town. There are many activites for all ages there. I found it convenient to accomplish morning exercise with a run around Mirror Lake. All our family members were sad to leavie this unique environment. We have committed to return for another gathering to experience this beautiful place in a different season.. I found the owners to be extremely obliging and pleasant,
