About Alyce Etxebarria

As a native Nevadan I treasure my home and this beautiful area. It is so near all of the Reno activities that I love to participate in! I have lived in this home for 20 years, until a recent love interest has taken me to a new adventure. I have done all the 'remodel' work myself. My home is perfect and ready for guests to enjoy! I have really been lucky, with the best people, it has been a pleasure so far.

Alyce Etxebarria purchased this house in 1990

Why Alyce Etxebarria chose Reno

When I was a kid running around Reno, I remember saying that one day I would love to live in this neighborhood! This home is absolutely the perfect Reno location for work or play. The house is a short few blocks from downtown Reno. You could arrange a whole life within biking distance! Across the street from Renos oldest park, Idlewild Park and the Truckee River. Amazing thing is you can still go to one of the many little riverside beaches and be the only one there! Freeway I-80 westbound to Tahoe is minutes from the door. All this, and yet the house is in a very secluded old S.W. area of town. Traffic does not 'just wind up here'. You must wiggle your way in!! Excellent!!

What makes this house unique

The location is really unique. Reno's Downtown/Midtown area is just blocks from the quiet seclusion of the old neighborhood. Take the retro-cruisers out to explore. You will surely find something special.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My friends and I traveled to Reno for the Tour de Nez and had the pleasure of renting and staying in Alyce's parkside retreat. Alyce was wonderful; she was flexible with our arrival and departure times, and even left us a pitcher of sun tea on the back patio to enjoy! The house was perfect for two couples with king size beds, plenty of privacy and full of ecclectic charm. It is a beautiful peaceful space right on the Truckee River and just a short 15 minute walk to central Reno. It's perfect for your summer or winter trip to the Reno/Tahoe area!

Great House...Good location!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this house! Very warm and welcoming. Great if you have a dog too. Nice big backyard and a 2 minute walk to the river, and a great walk along the river and park. Less than 10 mins to the casinos. Loved the decor of the house too. We had fun admiring all the little touches she made to make the house so unique. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone looking to stay in the Reno area. We would rent it again.

Very eclectic and overall sweet house.

  • 5 of 5

Home owner was very inviting, had a gift basket waiting for us on arrival and tour of the property. Home is in a very quite neighborhood and great location close to the shops on the river walk. Overall great place to stay and would recommend to anyone who is on the fence about this house.

Nice Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the quiet retreat in a great location in Reno! The owner Alyce was wonderful in making sure our stay was perfect! She met us at the house and even made sure the bikes at the house were ready to go! Perfect location by the River and made you feel like you were a local! Great amenities to include the use of her computer and direct tv! :) Thank You! Only draw back might be in the summer on hot nights as you will have to use a fan to keep you cool, But if you are enjoying Reno you wont be home much!!!

Very Quaint But Not Perfect

  • 3 of 5

We have stayed at Alyce's house twice - once in December and again in July and it's like staying in the middle of an ongoing art project. We enjoyed the cozy, crafty atmosphere both times and really appreciated being able to include our little dog.

Our stay in December was without complaint. We entertained friends and family over a lovely dinner and a few cocktails :-) Everyone was comfortable and enjoyed the visit which included a tour of the quirky, fun interior.

Our stay in July however, was disappointing. We were surprised to realize that the house has no air conditioning! It was 95 degrees outside and there wasn't an HVAC system, a swamp cooler nor a portable room A/C. All we had were two very loud room fans. The evenings and mornings in Reno are very pleasant so we stayed at Alyces place from late evening thorough mid morning but made sure to stay busy elsewhere at other times of the day.

When questioned, Alyce referred me to the amenities portion of the HomeAway listing which did not list A/C and suggested that we bar-b-q or go to the park to "frolic." True enough but the house is also described as "luxury." And it just didn't occur to us that a house like that wouldn't have A/C in a climate where temps rise above 80 degrees.

Bottom line? This is a great place to stay in Winter or early Spring when it's cool but I wouldn't recommend it for a stay during the Summer.

Owner's Response: I am so excited to be able to announce that the little house has gotten a new AC system! Now those three hot weeks out of every Reno summer can be spent indoors enjoying cool refreshing air, while watching movies on the newly installed flat screen TVs in both bedrooms! As with each new season, the bedding is all updated and fresh. I am also working to complete a couple of new 'art' pieces. The house really does feel fresh and luxurious! Thanks for bringing a call to action to help make the new AC system a reality!! Something I never thought the little house would see. As a native Nevadan, I've certainly never lived in a house with air conditioning, can hardly wait to try it out!

Lovely Place

Staying here is like staying in the middle of a big art project!

We have stayed here twice now. The first time was in December and we had a lovely time. I cooked meals in and had family & friends over for visits.

The second time was in late July and it was still a lovely stay with one BIG exception... It was extremely hot.

This home, while described as "luxury" has no air conditioning so when temps reached 95, the inside of the house was too hot & stuffy to be even slightly enjoyable. Our mornings & evenings were spent in the back yard while the middle of the day was spent with family at their house. Not exactly what we had planned.

In all fairness, we were provided with two floor fans but they didn't cut it.

Beware of what amenities ARE NOT listed on the HomeAway site.

I would recommend for a winter stay only.

An incredible, unique home!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our long term stay here. The interior of the house has been lovingly created by Alyce, the owner, and provided a tranquil retreat . The location is on very quiet street, one block from the riverside park and close to great coffee shops, restaurants, and wine bars.

The house was immaculate and well appointed.

It is close to the interstate, making it easy to quickly head in any direction. Alyce was an attentive and responsive host.

You will find everything you need to make a full course meal. Bedrooms, baths are comfortable, with new fresh linens. This small, quality home is ready for entertaining! The layout is open, the atmosphere is warm and peaceful. Carefully thought after property provides a retreat stay in Reno. I have had gatherings of up to 25 people quite comfortably. Summertime, the back yard is perfect for a wedding or reception. I recently hosted a family reunion here. With Idlewild Park, and the Truckee River right around the corner, it is perfect location! I don't know of any hotel in the area that is as nice, plus to have the luxury of home cooking / dinning in , relaxing in the private yard. This home has available option to have maid service.
