Overview

Russian River House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroom Riverfront Cottage on Russian River - Close to Everything!

Relax among the redwoods in your riverfront cottage with brick paver patio, large deck with hot tub and seasonal dock with three kayaks. You are surrounded with lots of mature landscaping, flowers, majestic redwoods & fruit trees striking the perfect balance of sun and shade.

When the dock is not available, the kayaks may be transported to nearby local access areas. In the winter months, curl up with a good book near the fire in the wood stove while you wait for the rain to pass. On a sunny day, go for a bike ride across the foot bridge to Guerneville for an ice cream cone. In the afternoon, plan a visit to some local wineries using the many books and maps available. On another day, go for a hike in the redwoods at Armstrong Park or marvel at the waves at the Pacific coastline at Goat Rock or Shell Beach. At the end of the day, breathe deeply and relax in the hot tub under the moon and the stars.

The first thing you'll notice when you enter the house are the beautiful wide-plank wood floors and the view from the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river and trees creating a peaceful zen-like atmosphere.

The upstairs has two spacious bedrooms with Queen beds and new fluffy comforters. Both bedrooms have lots of windows and one has a deck overlooking the river--perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee. There is a small bedroom downstairs with Twin bunk beds. There is also a Queen-size pull-out sleeper sofa in the living room.

The main living areas are downstairs with an open floor plan. The living room has floor-to-ceiling windows on one end and a wood-burning stove on the other end. There is an adjoining dining room with space for eight people. The dining room opens out onto the brick paver patio with lovely views of the river.

The kitchen is well-stocked with all the essentials (cookware, coffee, tea, spices, olive oil, etc.), stainless steel refrigerator, smooth-top electric range, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker & grinder, blender and toaster oven. There is an adjoining breakfast nook with pub table seating for four.

The bathroom is located downstairs and has a large vanity area and shower. It is well stocked with plenty of bath and beach towels.

The patio is equipped with a propane BBQ grill, table and seating for eight, and porch swing for two. The adjoining deck has additional seating, hot tub for up to 5 people, and an outdoor shower. There are stairs off the deck down to the floating dock (available from mid-June to mid-Sept) where the kayaks (two single and one double) are tied up in the summer. The kayaks can be transported to other access points along the river when our dock is not in.

Located in the heart of the Sonoma wine country, on the Russian River, this home is the perfect location to visit the many local wineries, go for a swim, kayak, explore the coast, hike in the redwoods, bike or just relax and do nothing but enjoy the river and watch the local wildlife.

Modern comforts include High Speed Wi-Fi and HD Flat Screen TV with full cable, DVD player, plus ipod/iphone ready stereo. There are also lots of books and games available.

Nearby areas of interest include the world renowned Russian River and Dry Creek Wine regions (20 min), Armstrong State Park for hiking in the redwoods (10 min), Sonoma coastal ocean beaches and hiking (25 min), and restaurants, shopping, antiques, fishing, hiking, biking, tennis, golf (Northwoods 10 minutes away) and miniature golf (5 minutes).

About Suzi Krebs/David Crum

We are originally from the midwest (Suzi from Michigan and David from Pennsylvania) and now live in the San Francisco bay area. We wanted to find a place to unwind from the hectic city life but not be too far away. We feel blessed to have found the perfect place to relax only one and a half hours away from San Francisco.

Suzi Krebs/David Crum purchased this house in 2012

Why Suzi Krebs/David Crum chose Russian River

We have always enjoyed the wine country and chose this house because of its charm and location right on the river. We like to take the kayaks out and watch the local wildlife up close and personal. We also like to hike at the ocean and wanted to be near enough to get there easily and return quickly to the warm sunshine of Guerneville if the coast was foggy.

What makes this house unique

The views, the redwoods and being right on the river sold us. We like the quiet neighborhood and its proximity to lots of wineries. Great hiking & biking! We enjoy the quaint little town of Guerneville with its many restaurants, 5 & 10 store, flea market, and ice cream shop. We also love walking over the bridge when the dam is up in the summer to The Hideaway, one of our favorite local taverns.

Zin and Zen

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Zin and Zen! What a comfortable and beautiful setting on the river. Suzi and Dave have a beautifully decorated and well equipped home that provides everything you need for a great vacation. The peaceful neighborhood on the river was very convenient for getting to other areas of Sonoma County. We hope to stay there again and friends who dropped by to say hi are considering renting even though they live 30 minutes away!! Thanks again for such a gorgeous home! Cassie and Rick

Lovely relaxing river home

  • 5 of 5

Everything was spotless, the beds were comfy, the kitchen well-stocked. Hot tub was delightful. Nice quiet neighborhood. We had no reason to call the owners, and they didn't intrude on us. Plenty of privacy from the neighbors despite them being relatively close by. Direct access to the river in the winter was not really there. The steps kind of lead down to nowhere and a steep drop - no dock in winter, and water levels are probably also affected by the current drought - but it was easy enough to walk half a block down to beach access by the torn-down bridge (also a small playground there.) It was still nice to have the river view from the hottub, deck and living room; I spent a lot of time staring at it and watching people fly fishing. There was some road noise from 116 across the way, but that would be true at any property along the river. The heater was rather loud, but worked fine. My husband grumbled about having to go downstairs to use the bathroom at night... can you see the level of complaints we're at here? Very nice rental. I left my iphone cord there, and the owners are kindly getting it back to me.

Charming peaceful home on the river

  • 5 of 5

Words fail me. Seriously. This house is just so perfect and homey and charming. My family and I loved soaking in the hot tub, sitting out on the balcony watching the river wash by, and having game night at the spacious dining room table. Late at night, my husband and I sat by the wood stove and enjoyed the fire. My two boys (10 and 6) wanted to stay forever and are already asking when we'll go back. Thank you Zin and Zen for a magical holiday in Guerneville.

Lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit to the west coast, my two young adult children (21 and 24) and I spent a week at this property. It is well maintained and spotless! The beds are all comfortable and it was great having a washer/dryer. The kitchen was well stocked and even had a lime squeezer! We really enjoyed the hot tub after sightseeing and visiting wineries. The owners even provided some free wine tasting coupons. We did not use the kayaks but enjoyed the dock and swam in the river. It was nice being so close to the ocean....gorgeous views. One disappointment was that we could not ship any of our wine purchases to our states but we managed to find room in our luggage. Staying in this home was so much better than sharing a hotel room and cooking in saved money. The owners were EXTREMELY responsive and helpful. Highly recommend!

Awesome place to spend a few days on the river

  • 5 of 5

We went to the house with some friends from out of town in June before the dam was put up. We were two families; one family two adults with 2 teen daughters, and the other family with two adults and one child. The sleeping, cooking, and interior accommodations were great for our group. A queen airbed and a pull out couch were available as well that we did not use. The kitchen is well stocked and we tried to leave non-perishable stuff there as we could to replace what we did use.

The deck is where we spent a lot of time. There is a nice gas grill that was treat to use. There's a wash off hose as well. The hot tub was great and we spent some time there as will. The deck overlooks the river and the opposite bank. Int he morning we saw plenty of avian activity including osprey, red-tailed hawks, at least 5 species of waterfowl, and all throughout the day we enjoyed the various butterflies that were nectaring on the flowering plants on the hillside below the deck.

There a dirt step path that leads to where a dock would have been. WE accessed the river throughout our stay, even in the low water conditions. the water depth on the house side of the river was about 6 feet at the most, but would be a good 5 feet higher with the dam put in. We had fun playing in the river and taking the kayaks upstream to the public beach in Guernville and boating back down to the house - that took about 90 minutes with a stop to jump off a couple rocks. The river was low, so we had to get out and drag the boats a couple times.

The only thing missing is an outdoor shower on the deck to wash off the river much before getting in the hot tub rather than using the hose to rinse off. Also, the neighbors are very close on both sides, so we had to be wary of not being too loud later at night.

We had very smooth transactions with the owners. They were very attentive and great to deal with.

Overall we had a great time and would come back!!!

Wonderful relaxing getaway in a quiet neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

We spent a girls weekend at Zin and Zen and the house was even prettier than the pictures. Gorgeous views of the river, lovely hot tub, and beautiful outdoor dining area (including a swing!) that we couldn't use due to rainy weather, but is definitely an enticement for next time. The owners were a pleasure to work with, very helpful in suggesting wineries and restaurants. We would definitely come back! Only reason we're not assigning 5 stars is 1 bathroom is a little tricky to coordinate with our party of six ladies.
