We spent Thanksgiving at this beautiful spot. We had a wonderful time. Our hosts really know how to welcome guests. The fire was laid and the heat and lights on ready for our late arrival. We were especially impressed with the compact but well supplied kitchen. The home is beautifully adorned with their personal artwork. The view from the back of the house is outstanding. We enjoyed the walks in the area and would definitely recommend this vacation spot for nature enthusiasts or for a quiet retreat. Hopefully we will get back again.
My boyfriend and I spent 4 days and 3 nights at this beautifully decorated cottage in the middle of November. Nestled along the river, this was the perfect getaway from the busy city. Amenities were lovely. We spent our days exploring the surrounding area, would recommend visiting Kent and Great Barrington, MA. We also spent the afternoon visiting a nearby winery that we ventured upon on our day of arrival. We loved sitting by the fireplace in the evening (Danielle and Mario had built a fire for us to light before we arrived, which was simply delightful). Hope to return again and explore the area during some warmer weather.
We spent a wonderful weekend at the beautiful Cottage at Great Falls. It was our second visit and found it to be as amazing as the first stay, if not better. Our first visit was in the fall, we walked the Appalachian Trail, photographed the foliage and the falls. Mario and Danielle have a wealth of knowledge for this area; for this stay they recommended we rent a pontoon boat at O’Hara’s Landing at Twin Lakes in Salisbury. It was a wonderful idea; it’s a short scenic drive to the beautiful lake. Bring a picnic lunch and spend the day floating and swimming.
I agree fully with Robin and Gregory’s reviews, their descriptions of the cottage are perfect. My favorite spot is the sunroom off the master bedroom overlooking the Housatonic River. Take time to walk the property, the cottage is artistic inside and out. You will leave relaxed, at peace and inspired to get creative.
Mario and Danielle, thank you maintaining this beautiful retreat in Connecticut and making it available for others to enjoy.
I have stayed at the Cottage in Falls Village twice and have been so pleased each time! I have now enjoyed days where it was chilly enough to build a fire as well as warm days where I opened windows for the fresh air and enjoyed the deck for coffee and visiting. It is a wonderful retreat with everything I need ... including the washer/dryer! The photos are completely accurate and the location is convenient to many wonderful outings. It is a treasure and I am looking forward to my next visit this October!
The cottage at Falls Village has to be the most peaceful setting we have ever rented in. Set on a country road with no outlet, and facing the Housatonic River, the cottage gave us a feeling of delightful seclusion for the long weekend we visited. The house is full of art, as well as artistic expressions in plaster, stone and tile. But at the same time, it was entirely comfortable and relaxing. The bathroom showcases Mario Genova's extraordinary tilework -- have you ever taken a shower inside a work of art? The huge window beside the tub, overlooking the deck and river, is an added bonus. The bedroom was a joy to wake in, with its views of the surrounding trees. The adjoining sunroom was our favorite spot, with its late-afternoon sun and screened windows on all sides. Every room had something special awaiting discovery, especially Danielle Blade's stunning glass sculptures throughout. When we tore ourselves away from the cottage, we hiked for a few hours on the nearby Appalachian Trail, which skirts the lovely falls from which the village gets its name. We took the recommendations of the owners and enjoyed meals at the Falls Village Inn, as well as Pastorale and the Black Rabbit Bar & Grille in Lakeville. Sunday brunch at the Toy Maker Cafe in Falls Village was the best meal, with great freshly-brewed coffee, sweet potato waffles and bacon. Yum! Danielle was quite responsive and accommodating as host, and we thank her and Mario for allowing visitors to enjoy their lovely cottage. You will love it!
This home is unique. Everywhere you turn is something else interesting to look at- including the gorgeous view from the deck, eating area patio/deck, or sunroom off the master. With the fall foliage it was superb. The master bed was comfortable and the bedroom overall super relaxing. The owners are very nice and helpful with multiple pages of writeups for "how tos" and "where tos". I will say that this is not a good place for children. There is no railing on the stairs to the second bedroom, it is filled with gorgeous antique furniture, glass doors and artwork. Better as a weekend getaway for mom and dad alone! There is a train track right behind the house, but it is very sparsely traveled. We heard one train all weekend. We thought it was cool. We would definitely recommend this house for a delightful weekend away in the berkshires. We would love to go back sometime!
