Eia Makou (Here we are!) is the name of our fabulous home with both gorgeous ocean and mountain views. For decades our family traveled to the Big Island. Our kids grew up learning Hawaiian dances and Polynesian culture. Finally, we were able to buy our dream home, and now we share it with you. Please see reviews submitted by our guests, many of whom return every year. Hawaii is special. A Hawaiian Kahu blessed our home, and we have furnished it Hawaiian style, with every modern amenity blended into the spirit of Aloha. The furnishings reflect the combination of excitement and relaxation and all are in the Hawaiian tradition, from the lime and lemon trees (pick your own) to the historic Hawaiian memorabilia on the walls. There are TVs in all three bedrooms as well as in the great room. The kitchen is as complete as one could wish. Eia Makou is the perfect spot for family bonding and offers a base for exploring the diversity of the Big Island, from beaches to volcanoes. E komo mai ('please come in.')

Perfect spot for whale watching and temperature.
Close to everything important to visiting Hawaii. This home is located just 10 minutes from the best beach on the Big Island, Hapuna Beach. There are also 5 other beaches within a 20 minute drive to choose from.
Just 3 miles down the road you can catch your Whale watching boat that leaves from the Kawaihae Harbor, along with sunset cruises, deep sea fishing expeditions and scuba diving excursions.
There are excellent restaurants serving Local fast foods as well as Seafood, Gourmet pizza, Pacific Cuisine, Sushi, Burgers, Ice Cream and Shave Ice, along with night time music and dancing. 4-5 star restaurants are within the 20 minute driving range, and shopping for just about any and all tastes can be found at the Waikoloa King and Queen shops. The weather is consistant here with only 7 ' of rain on avarage per year.
Every year my wife and I rent a house for vacation.
Usually in Maui. This was our first trip to the Big Island. I must tell you
that everything exceeded our expectations for a great vacation.
The house was perfect. We really appreciated the work that you put into
making the house clean and comfortable. All of the little touches and
amenities really make a difference, so thank you. We have stayed in a lot of
homes over the years, this was one of the best. On our last day we were
trying to figure out when we could come back!
Loved the Big Island! Like I said it was our first trip and we thought it
was great. So much less crowded than Maui. But with lots to do. The people
were really friendly, which we thought was really nice. Didn't do the
Volcano, we are saving that one for next time.
Thanks again and we will be back next year!
This was our 4th year at Eia Makou, and we continue to love it. Things were different this year, due to a little more rain plus a recent storm wiped out much of the beach at the Mauna Kea resort which is our favorite place to swim/snorkel. Yet we still loved our 6 week stay, as we finally did get several great swim days at Mauna Kea, complete with multiple turtles coming right to shore; but meanwhile, we appreciated more than ever being able to swim laps daily in the warm, pristine pool! We also exercised frequently near the home-- driving to the bottom of the hill to park and then walking along the highway-- overwhelmed with all the whales we saw, including full breaches!
Loved the spacious and private lanai where we lunched outside most days and spotted more whales. The home continues to be very well stocked and maintained, with beautiful landscaping as well. Barbara, the manager was always immediately responsive for any questions.
Enjoyed some new experiences: toured the Hamakua Macadamia Nut factory 5 minutes away; hiked along the Mauna Lani path to the beach;enjoyed great entertainment and dinner at the Blue Dragon and also dinner at Roy's in Waikoloa; saw more breaching whales at the Lava Lava happy hour in Waikoloa; loved and highly recommend the AdventureX whale watching tour out of Puako; treated myself to a special bracelet from Sassafras jewelers in Waimea. Some repeats we loved were: Lunch at Merriman's, buying our wine from the best wine store/most knowledgeable expert, Alvin, at Kamuela Liquor, daily eating papayas and avocados from farmers' markets, grilling fresh fish from the local market, and of course treating ourselves to toasted coconut ice cream from the shop just down the hill.
Many thanks to the owners for continuing to share their lovely home. We're already booked for next year!
The house was lovely as was the view. Quiet and peaceful which is exactly what we all wanted. The weather cooperated and we had a good time exploring the Island.
This property is absolutely lovely. Just as described...clean, comfortable and had a beautiful view of the ocean. We like to be away from the hustle of town and resorts, so this was great. Bought fish from the local shop near the harbor, cooked at home, relaxed and swam. Kitchen is well stocked. The pool temperature was perfect. Took 2 days to sightsee. The house was in a good location to travel north to see Hawi and the North shore, but it was also easy to travel over to Hilo for a (longer) day of checking out Volcanoes National Park. Resort shopping isnt too far away if you want to do that. Groceries can be grabbed in Kona or up in Waimea. Barbara, the proptery manager, was very resposive throughout both planning and during our stay. We has a great week here and would recommend it to others.
This was such a lovely and beautiful home. We felt like we had our own little slice of paradise. We have 2 girls ages, 4 and 7. We visited the Big Island for Spring Break with a couple of other family friends. One family stayed just down the road from us, and the other in Waikaloa. This house is about 20 minutes from Waikaloa and was so easy to meet up with our friends for day trips to the beach and other fun activities in the area. We felt at home and relaxed the second we walked in the door. I felt that the listing description was completely accurate, and the home is better in person than in the photos. Beautiful pool and jacuzzi with spectacular views. We could not get our girls out of the pool in the evenings. Gorgeous view of the sunset. Home was clean, had very comfortable bedrooms and was very well equipped for all of our cooking and grilling needs. Master bathroom has beautiful upgrades. We did eat at Cafe Pesto and Kohala Burger and Taco which were a very close drive from the property. Both were delicious and very kid friendly. We even picked up some Opaka from Da Fish House just down the road and prepared that one night for dinner. Barbara was extremely helpful and accessible. We loved going to Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea Beach, and 69's Beach. It was nice that the fun didn't end for the kids when we left the beach since they could return to the house and swim to their hearts' delight. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who is interested in exploring this beautiful island. Such a magical vacation for our family! We will definitely be back soon!
It is our 3rd year in this lovely home--each time we stay longer, and we have already booked it for 6 weeks next year. Obviously we love this home, and agree with all the positive reviews others have written. The owners continue to maintain and upgrade this pristine home each year; this time--new beds, TVs in all the bedrooms, and a new barbecue. The manager was always immediately responsive and helpful with any questions or small issues that arose. We drove to Mauna Kea beach most days to run/walk/swim and enjoy the beach, but we loved returning to the home each day for a leisurely lunch outside, whale watching, lap swimming and reading, and the hot tub at sunset. We had exceptionally good weather plus many days with calm seas. Also enjoyed shopping and lunch in Havi, the petroglyphs at Mauna Lani, the cats at A-bay, paddle boarding, dinner at Pueo's Osteria, takeout pizza from Cafe Pesto, toasted coconut ice cream just down the hill, and fish tacos at Kohala Burger. Costco plus the farmer's market (papayas!) and Kamuela liquor (great wine store in Waimea) kept us supplied with wonderful dining-in options. Many thanks to the owners and the manager for making our stay so enjoyable. We are looking forward to next year!
This was our second visit, and we would not consider staying anywhere else. The views are fabulous, the pool is great, and the house is better equipped than our own home. A significant bonus is the fresh fish market right down the hill. We rarely ever ate at a restaurant! The house maintains complete privacy with beautiful landscaping. The owners/manager are more than accommodating. Truly an excellent vacation rental home.
