Wonderful, dramatic sunsets and 60 mile views from the Casita encompass the Truchas (Trout Peaks), Picuris and Jemez Mountain ranges. To the south, the twinkling lights of Taos shine in the night.
Our 850 sq. ft. Guest House is near, yet very separate from, our private home. The Casita contains living room with gas fireplace, dining area with table for 4, modern fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher, microwave and lots of small appliances) and one bath with extra-large shower. The Casita sleeps 2-4 with a private bedroom with romantic queen canopy bed and a day bed and trundle in the sitting area off the living room. There is a deck with private Hot Tub with views of the mountains and of course, the Casita is equipped with washer & dryer, Satellite TV/VCR, Stereo/CD and telephone with answering machine. This is a non-smoking property. Smoking outside only please.
Since the ½ mile private gravel road on which we are located, can be snowy in winter (we hope it will be anyway!), 4 wheel drive vehicles are preferred during ski season, although front wheel drive is usually just fine. In Summer any vehicle is just fine.
Activities: Downhill and cross-country skiing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, golf. Gallery browsing, shopping, museums, arts & crafts festivals, Native American Dances & ceremonials. Art workshops, Music Festivals, Wine Tastings and best of all: just relaxing!
Area: Casita Truchas is located in a very quiet neighborhood as there are only a few neighbors. All the houses around are on 3+ acres and the land is covered in pinon and juniper trees. We are on the slope of the mountains as they rise up, which is why you look out over the trees to the views.
The views are of the Jemez Mountains about 60 miles away (highlighted by the sparkling lights of Los Alamos), of the Truchas Peaks about 45 miles away and of the sweep of the Taos Valley (including the Town of Taos) and the Rio Grande Gorge where the Rio Grande River cuts through this broad expanse.
Casita Truchas is at 8,000 feet and the town of Taos (10 miles away) is at 6,900 feet. The base of Taos Ski Valley is at 9,200 feet, about 10 miles away in the other direction. The Casita is about 20-25 yards from the main house, and it's very separate with it's own parking area and entry.
Because of the slope of the land you drive into the Casita's parking area at the front door level and it's a one story building. On the other side of the building however, the long view side, it's 2 story and our garage is on the lower level, which is grade level at that point. The mountain views to the other side, to the North and East, are closer mountain views and they are wonderful too.
