Frank Lloyd Wright architectural design allows this 3 bedroom cottage to grace the Florida coast with spectacular views. One tier off the dazzling white sand and clear blue waters of the Forgotten Coast, it is a perfect family setting.
The cottage has been our home away from home this winter. We are coming back the same time next year. This octagonal house is charming and bright and airy with the living space on the top floor for optimal views of the gulf and park like surroundings. The beach down a short sandy path is pristine and uncrowded. The house has all things you could want for cooking, a laundry room, comfortable beds and even an extra sitting room with a TV. There are five decks so you can enjoy the outdoors with a treehouse like feeling. I would highly recommend this rental.
Our family has been to SGI several times and has always stayed in the Plantation, so we are very familiar with the Island. This is the best location to be if you are not directly on the beach. The path right beside the house gets you to the beach in about 3 minutes. As told to me by a local person, the construction of the house was started by an airline pilot and his wife, a flight attendant; however, before it was completed, he was killed in a plane crash. He was never able to live in the home. She completed it and lived there alone for the next 20 years or so. She only sold the home about 3-4 years ago. My wife loves architecture, and the Frank Lloyd Wright design caught her eye. It is an octagonal shape with great floor plan. The stairs for two flights in the middle of the house are something that we have not seen in any other house. They are a work of art. The bedrooms are all on the second floor with the top floor being one very large room with the kitchen, dining and living areas. It is great for communication. There are windows all the way around on the top floor with at least two large balconies on each floor. We have never had an issue with noise at SGI, but this location is one of the most quiet and private because of its location hidden in trees with a large circular drive at the end of the street. The only problem we had all week was with the dryer. We contacted the owner who was very accessible and responsive and had it repaired the same day.
I am writing this review on our last night at The Cottage! We have enjoyed our stay. A great place to rest and relax. Easy access to the beach, great views, and a beautiful home. Loved the walking and bike trails as well the views from each window! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. Already contemplating a longer visit for next summer.
We are very familiar with the area, and I must say that I was a little hesitant about the location to the water. Not to worry! while the home does not face the ocean directly, it is only down a very short path to the boardwalk. The Plantation is a beautiful place and the most pedestrian/biker friendly place I have ever seen. The home is wonderful, open, and extremely comfortable for 6 guests. There are a lot of stairs, but our 55-75 age group managed ok. The owners were very helpful and always available for questions. The property as a whole was very well maintained and clean. Stores and restaurants are not within walking distance, as the Plantation is a private, and very large gated community- which is not a bad thing- and everything you need is 10 minutes away. We also appreciated being able to rent such a nice place for only 3 nights.
We have stayed at VRBO properties across the nation and this is our very favorite--and the only one we have visited more than once. Our family of 55+ and two older teens love the Cottage. Beautiful decor and layout, and convenient access to the beach. We love to read, work puzzles, board games, ride bikes and walk along a beautiful beach that is quiet and away from the crowds--so The Cottage is perfect. We spent this last Thanksgiving week there and it was perfect. Can't wait to return.
