Farm house in town but has a secluded feeling, with lovely lawns and gardens, (knob hill) 'on the hill' in Great Barrington, which was just listed as no. 1 as the best little town in America by Smithsonian Magazine. Easy walk to center of town, walkable to Lake Mansfield for swimming, and short walk to saturday morning farmers market. The house has rustic artistic decorations, but with all the modern amenities: washer dryer, dishwasher, wi fi, cable and air conditioning. Four bedrooms, plus laundry room which can sleep one more, two porches (futon sofas on porches). New barbecure grill, lovely flower garden facing big porch. There is a second building (renovated small barn still a little rough) which can be used for an office, though has some of our storage) or an emergency guest room or playroom (during warm weather). SO good for family reunions though not overwhelming for two. Not a huge house but can sleep multitudes.
Family and pet friendly. Also close to two ski areas, Butternut and Catamount, one right in town.
after spending the summer working in Stockbridge ,we decided when we had the down payment we would buy something. seven years later we did it. This was one of two properties we looked at on a saturday afternoon. it was love at first sight.
in town but secluded feeling and quiet. can walk to town and to the beach. since we got house town has super come up from a working town to a resort town, where there once were six hardware stores, there are now six sushi bars, great dining and shopping, even galleries and three movies sometimes four
Renting this cozy home was truly the best decision we made for our wedding this summer! It was incredible to be able to have all of our family and friends from out-of-town stay in one place, as opposed to scattered throughout the Berkshires in extremely pricey hotels. The owners of the house were so generous with their belongings that it really made us feel like we were at home. On the night of our wedding, we slept 17 people (using a comfy chair!). It is well laid-out and can house several couples and then many singles. It is also a very short but hilly walk to Main St, Great Barrington. I would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to spend sometime with a large crowd in the Berkshires!
Loved the location, and the privacy. Climbing the hill more than a couple times a day might have gotten old (especially if one was carrying groceries), but it was a nice, short walk to Main Street and all its amenities, and a little hill-climbing meant one could indulge in some of GB's delicious ice cream without feeling too guilty - not to mention a pizza lunch at Baba Louie's!
Owner was very helpful, and responsive to phone and email queries. She offered many suggestions and recommendations concerning locations, things to see and do, and places to dine.
The property was clean, well maintained and as advertised. If I have one small criticism, it is that, for me, it was slightly claustrophobic. There were so many sheets, towels, dishes, chairs, pieces of furniture, books, and even rugs, that it sometimes felt crowded, despite being a pretty roomy house. It's a minor quibble, however, and nothing that should deter anyone from renting the house.
If you have any interest in theater, I would highly recommend you take in a show at "Shakespeare and Company" in Lenox. It's a company of highly talented actors who always give a great performance.
We were so happy to find this home so close to downtown Great Barrington. There were times when we had our teenage children and friends, who worked at a nearby overnight camp coming and going as well as extended family. There was room for everyone! The home is cozy yet spacious with so many personal touches. It is clearly a family home and does not feel like a rental house. We had everything we could want from linens to kitchen supplies, as well as spices and pantry ingredients! The yard and gardens are lovely and we spent lots of time relaxing on one of the two enclosed porches. It's a short (but hilly) walk to and from downtown Great Barrington with so many restaurants and things to do in the area. Thanks to the owner Jeri who was a pleasure to deal with. We hope to return again next summer.
