In the summer, hiking and wildlife viewing are right outside our door. When we are not sitting on the deck listening to the roar of the Middle Fork of the Gallatin River or fly fishing in the best rivers, lakes and streams in the US, we are: at the stocked lake at the top of our road, or river rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, playing golf on the 18-hole, par 72 Arnold Palmer course, or playing tennis or at the swimming pool. From the peaceful vacationer to the sports enthusiast, Big Sky has something for everyone!
Area: Big Sky is on the spine of the Madison Mountain Range, 43 miles south of Bozeman, Montana.
From the Gallatin Field Airport, it is a short one hour drive through the spectacular Gallatin National Forest and along the scenic Gallatin River to our home. Founded in 1973 by the late NBC newscaster, Chet Huntely, Big Sky surveys an expansive landscape that encompasses national forest, exquisite alpine meadows, majestic mountain lakes, rushing rivers and Blue Ribbon trout streams. The northwest border of Yellowstone territory runs only 18 miles from Big Sky. The official West Yellowstone National Park entrance is only a half hour drive farther.
