About Lauren Helmkay

We love Lake Simcoe and being in the lake, and we love learning more about our travelling friends. Our home is known to be open as well to our guests, but we also respect the privacy of those who are looking to just 'get away' :)

Lauren Helmkay purchased this house in 2012

Why Lauren Helmkay chose Stratford

This home is a real 'retreat'; you'll find space to make your own, and common areas to enjoy company. The lake is the draw of this house, whether for summer swimming, or winter ice fishing. The house has a large back yard as well where you might find a badmitton net set up, or a fire burning in the fire pit.

What makes this house unique

An hour north of Toronto, this is cottage country without the commute in the long traffic north. The house itself offers spaciousness, cathedral ceilings, and an elegance that makes you feel you've landed somewhere really special.

I'm already having withdrawal symptoms from this house.

My partner and I agreed to organise a murder-mystery weekend away for a group of 9 people over Halloween weekend, and Lauren (the owner) was nothing but accommodating, responsive, and generally fabulous both before and during our arrival. The house is not only stunning, but its location is perfect (I was amazed how little time it took to get to/from the cottage to/from Toronto), combined with amenities and groceries nearby so we didn't need to haul much to the cottage.

All our guests were elated with the size (each guest had there own bed - and there was more than enough room to accommodate more if necessary), cleanliness and overall grandeur of the house. As with any online transactions, there's always a hint of reservation when something looks too good to be true, but much like all the reviews below, I hope I can convey how excellent the entire experience was for me - I'm already planning a summer return so we can take full advantage of the private beach.

Thanks once again Lauren - without you and your home, our murder mystery weekend wouldn't have been such a huge success. I hope you can forgive us for the remnants of a feather boa scattered around the house...

Owner's Response: Hi Bradley - we are still finding feathers! Lol! No seriously, we so enjoyed having you and are so happy to hear you all had a great time! We were talking of murder mysteries over the holiday...send on your info on who you used!! :)

Another AMAZING holiday spent at this gem!

This is our third time staying at this cottage, and it is always a great experience. The place is beautiful, spacious, fully equipped with everything you could imagine, and Lauren is fantastic to deal with. Very friendly and helpful.

Every time we've gone, she's added or changed something, always making it even better than before.

We enjoyed it, my grown children enjoyed it, and my granddaughters really enjoyed it! I'm happy to report that no babies were born while there....but my daughter-in-law did give birth only 6 days after leaving. My daughter is due this week..... they were both very comfortable at this cottage, even in the late stages of pregnancy....that says a lot!!

Lauren, you're wonderful, the place is fantastic, the neighbours are nice, and we will be back :)

As a matter of fact, I'll be back in just a few weeks for our annual Ladies Weekend Getaway in September!!

I absolutely love the fact that it's only an hour away to your paradise! See you again soon!

Owner's Response: Debbie - we are so happy you all had a great time - again!! :) By now you must be keeping busy with little newborns! It would have been exciting but I'm glad the ladies got a chance to rest at the cottage first!! See you in a couple weeks and look forward to some pictures! Lauren

A relaxing retreat close to Toronto. Amazing!

We go cottaging once a year to explore different parts of Ontario. This year, we decided to stay close to GTA to avoid the stress of cottage traffic and the long drive. When you have 2 little ones that are car sick, the short drive to Keswick is really nice. We were 4 adults and 4 kids, ranging between the ages of 4-8. As many of the reviews said, the pictures on the site do not do the place justice (and usually it is the other way around!).

It was really convenient that everything was on hand, including bedding, staple oils and spices, laundry detergent/fabric softener, towels, beach towels, paper napkins, toilet paper, and tissue paper. I've had to lug all of those last year to a different cottage and so not fun! The place was clean, beautiful and luxurious... we definitely felt pampered.

Lauren, the owner, lives a couple of doors down and was so extremely friendly & helpful when needed. It was actually convenient to have her close by in case we had any questions or needed anything.

The dock came equipped with so many toys for the adults and kids to enjoy. It was better than expected. The kids had so much fun and the adults enjoyed relaxing on the dock, looking at the beautiful view.

Overall, it had everything that we wanted and so much more! Would definitely recommend to others and come back again.

Owner's Response: Emily - we love that you all felt pampered! and got to enjoy the new dock :) Look forward to seeing you again and I'll send you a note on the detergent we use that makes the sheets smell so nice, LOL! Thanks!! Lauren

Overall an amazing weekend!

Read all the reviews and saw all the pictures but still, once we got there it was far more amazing.

Our group consisted of 10 between the ages of 20-30.

I've been accustomed to renting out cottages for a long time now, and the owner is by far the best I've ever dealt with. She's extremely accommodating, super helpful, sweet, and gave us a lot of space and privacy (though she did drop by to give us a homemade pie from her mother!).

The place was gorgeous and amazingly well kept. I would definitely come back again very soon!

Owner's Response: We are thrilled you enjoyed yourselves here and you were a pleasure to have! It was great to see all the water toys back out in operation! The summer begins! :) Thanks for the lovely review - we agree the pictures don't do it justice no matter how many we take! LOL

There are no words to describe the beauty of this property! The pictures really do not do it justice as it is a massive home with so much to offer. Stayed there over the Family Day Long weekend in February 2014 with 10 people. It fight everyone comfortable with more than enough space for everyone. One of the best features is the amount of bathrooms- each room has its own separate bathroom which is very convenient for large groups. Each room is decorated beautifully- like something out of a magazine. On top of that, the furniture is impeccable and most of the items are updated antiques which look unreal. The owner is an absolute treasure of a human being. She bought a dozen roses and put them in a vase along with a Valentine's card and a box of chocolate (Valentine's day was the day before we arrived). She laid out towels in arrangements, left little soap and shampoo bottles everywhere and even emailed over the weekend to ensure we had everything. There are no words to explain how amazing she is; reminded me of having an amazing grandmother who is more concerned with your enjoyment than her own. The view of the lake is also spectacular and all of the neighbors are extremely nice. Overall, one of the best places I have ever visited and I have told plenty of people of my amazing weekend. Do not hesitate to book this property as you will not be disappointed. She also had a gift basket of coffee, spices, teas etc laid out so we did not have to bring so many food items. You will love it here!

Owner's Response: Can't thank you so much for this review - except I'm way too young to be a grandmother, lol lol lol...(ha?)....seriously, we are so happy you had a great time and enjoyed the cottage. Come back and visit again soon...!!

Family Christmas in Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

We had 7 people at this wonderful home for Christmas this year. The owners were so helpful and kind and the house was extremely well appointed and beautifully kept. The photos don't quite do it justice as it was even more grande than we were expecting. Reading by the living room fireplace or drinking wine and chatting around the kitchen island made for a wonderful holiday.

I would happily return here in Summer to better enjoy the lakefront and have already recommended it to others.

Other conveniences include the close by services (groceries etc 10-15 minutes away, coffee shop in Sutton, a nice restaurant for a special dinner in Jackson Pt.)

Owner's Response: We're so happy to hear you had a great holiday with us :) We love to see families come together here and relaxing!! I agree with your our pictures don't yet do the place justice - think it's time for a professional photographer! Because we're pretty proud of it too! But if we are erring on the side of exceeding expectations, we're good with that!! LOL Would love to see you all again in the summer - or next Christmas! Happy New year and thanks for taking the time to pop us a review! Much appreciated!

Cottage country, 1 hour from Toronto.

Lake Simcoe, a short drive north of Toronto, offers some of the best fishing in Ontario. The lake is fished year round (pike, perch, whitefish, lake trout) and is famous for it's winterlake trout and whitefish bonanza.
