OCCUPANCY: Maximum home occupancy is six persons; children must be 12 years old or above.
RATES: We offer a 10% discount for rentals of six or more nights (weekly rates below represent six-night rentals). Rate is the same for up to six guests. There are no additional charges besides tax. Our 'Just for Two' rate (i.e. 2 guests only) is $30/night off the current rate.
PAYMENT: You will receive your first invoice for half the total rent shortly after you reserve your dates and a second invoice for the balance a couple weeks before your rental date. Payments are made with personal check. We will also send you a basic rental agreement to sign. A $400 deposit is held in case of damage or breach of rental agreement.
AVAILABILITY: The availability calendar is updated regularly but it is best to email or call with your desired dates. We speak with all potential renters on the phone to make sure the house will be a good fit for you and us.
HISTORY: The home was built in 1994, has been owned by our family since 1999, and has been available for respectful renters seeking a quiet, North Shore retreat since 2007.
LOCATION: Lutsen Lakehouse is conveniently located about one mile east of 'downtown' Lutsen and about 2 miles east of Lutsen Ski Resort. Grand Marais is located 17 miles east of the house and Tofte 10 miles west. Duluth, MN is 90 miles down the shore to the west.
PRIVACY: The home has lots of privacy on 200' of Lake Superior coastline. There is no home on the neighboring property to the west and plenty of distance and trees from a home on the neighboring property to the east. There is also ample buffer (~500') between the home and North Shore 61 with a short service road (Pedersen Lane) and long driveway.
LAKESHORE: The home sits very close to Lake Superior (about 75 feet away) with easy access to water's edge. The ledgerock shoreline is perfect for walking, campfires, or just sitting and enjoying the view.
VIEW: The home is designed around the dramatic southerly view of Lake Superior. All bedrooms (master bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs) have wonderful views of the lake. Watch the waves crash on shore or iron ore boats sliding along the horizon.
BEDROOMS and BATHROOMS: The house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms and a good-sized loft with digital keyboard. The master bedroom downstairs has a queen-sized bed. The attached master bath has a large shower and separate bath tub with jets. The two upstairs bedrooms each have two twin beds. There is a half bathroom upstairs and a full bathroom with large white pine sauna downstairs.
LIVING ROOM, DINING ROOM, KITCHEN: All three rooms are open and inter-connected. The LIVING ROOM extends out from the center of the home with views out and up the shore in both directions. A massive wood-burning fieldstone fireplace sits opposite the windows (complimentary split firewood is available for guests). The DINING ROOM has a large, round wood table perfect for family times together. The KITCHEN is fully equipped with Sub-Zero fridge, gas and electric stove, two ovens, toaster, coffee maker, griddle, waffle iron, popcorn popper, microwave, full cookware (stainless steel), dishware, and silverware, dishwasher, and a large island with two stools. A complete list of kitchen items is available upon request.
DECKS: A large deck extends off the upstairs west bedroom and a large covered deck with a Weber grill sits off the kitchen and dining room area. There is also a deck that runs along the entire lakeside (south side) and west side of the house with a large table and chairs.
AUDIO/VISUAL: There is a 32' flat screen television (with 2 HDMI inputs) in the living room with satellite TV (Direct TV) and DVD and VHS players. The sound system plays CD's, cassettes, FM/AM radio, and has a port to plug in your portable audio device (you'll need to bring your own 1/8' male-to-male cable).
INTERNET: Free high-speed internet service via WiFi is available in the home.
WASHER/DRIER: We store our personal items in the laundry room, so while the home does have a washer/drier, it is not available to guests. A laundromat is available one mile west in Lutsen. For extended stays, clean linens and towels can be arranged with our cleaning staff.
SUN/MOON: The home faces almost due south so lots of sunlight pours in during the day. Watching the moon rise over the lake is always a memorable moment.
WILDLIFE: Be ready to see white-tailed deer walk through the yard, bald eagles soar overhead, and loons call on Lake Superior. If you're a little more fortunate, you may even see a timber wolf.
PETS: Unfortunately we can't allow pets due to guests with pet allergies and the potential for damage or soiling.
NON-OVERNIGHT GUESTS: Only members of your group are allowed in the home. Parties and excessive alcohol consumption are prohibited.
DIRECTIONS AND KEY: Given upon reservation along with detailed instructions for using everything in the home. Our cleaning and caretaking staff live very close to the home in case there are any problems during your stay.
